Four Auburn players make new preseason All-SEC list

Which players do you think will stand out for Auburn?

It isn’t long until the college football season kicks off, but some Auburn players are already getting recognized.

In PFF’s new preseason All-SEC list, four Auburn players were listed across three teams — running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag], defensive lineman [autotag]Colby Wooden[/autotag] and punter [autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag] were all named to the second team while defensive lineman [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag] got a nod on the third team. The Tigers also got an honorable mention, too, with [autotag]Keiondre Jones[/autotag] just missing out on the third-team list.

Auburn’s defense certainly seems to be drawing the most hype this year before the start of the season, with Wooden, Hall and players like [autotag]Owen Pappoe [/autotag]making early impressions in camp and in the media before the start of the season. Bigsby, however, is expected to be one of the best running backs in the SEC, and this upcoming year could be very important for his draft stock moving forward.

These players (and more) will get their first opportunity to prove they deserve their preseason honors when the Tigers kick the season off against the Mercer Bears on Sept. 3 at home.

Auburn picked to finish last in SEC West, 6 Tigers make All-SEC teams

Auburn will be looking to prove some people wrong.

As many anticipated, expectations are not high for Auburn football in [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag]’s second season.

The Tigers were voted to finish last in the SEC West by members of the media who attended SEC Media Days.

Despite the skepticism about their ability to win games, six Tigers were named to the preseason All-SEC teams. Running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag] and edge rusher [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag] made the first-team. While defensive tackle [autotag]Colby Wooden[/autotag], punter [autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag], and kicker [autotag]Anders Carlson[/autotag] each made the second-team and linebacker [autotag]Owen Pappoe[/autotag] made the third-team.

The Tigers are coming off of a 6-7 season in Harsin’s first season where they dropped their final five games after starting the year off 6-2. The Tigers had chances to win most of those games but were unable to do so.

Things only got worse in the offseason, the Tigers were hit hard by players departing via the trasfer portal (to be expected with a new head coach) and their was an attempted coup of Harsin that caused doubt if he would even get to coach a second season.

Harsin spoke at SEC Media days about the inquiry.

“There was an inquiry. It was uncomfortable. It was unfounded. It presented an opportunity for people to personally attack me, my family, and also our program. And it didn’t work.”

Auburn and Harsin will open the season against Mercer on Sep. 3 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. It it the first of five straight home games to open the season and a great chance for the Tigers to start the season strong.

Here is how the media expected the SEC to finish and a look at their all-conference teams.

Four Auburn Tigers make 76th annual preseason All-SEC team

The expectations are high for these four Tigers.

The 76th Annual AL.com/Birmingham News All-SEC Team has been announced, as voted on by the conference’s 14 football information directors.

Four Auburn Tigers were named to the team, with two making the first team and two the second.

[autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag] was selected as the first-team running back. The junior rushed for 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He is expected to be the engine that powers Auburn’s offense in the 2022 season.

[autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag] is the Tiger’s other first-teamer, named to the defensive line. Hall led Auburn with 12.5 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks last season. He and Eku Leota give Auburn a nice pass-rushing combo coming off the edge.

[autotag]Colby Wooden[/autotag] was selected to the second team defense after making 61 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks last season. The final Tiger to make the list is punter [autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag], who made the second team.

Alabama led the way with 11 total selections and five first-teamers. The group is headlined by reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young on offense and outside linebacker Will Anderson on defense.

Anderson, the only unanimous selection, led the nation in sacks (17.5) and tackles for loss (34.5) as a sophomore last year.

Nine Auburn players named to Athlon Sports’ preseason All-SEC Team

Were any Auburn players snubbed?

Athlon Sports announced its preseason All-SEC Team for the 2022 season, and nine Auburn players made one of the four teams.

The Tigers had two first-team selections, running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag] and defensive lineman [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag]. Defensive lineman [autotag]Colby Wooden[/autotag] and punter [autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag] were named to the second-team.

Linebacker Owen Pappoe, offensive lineman Keiondre Jones, and kicker Anders Carlson each made the third-team. Tight end John Samuel Shenker and safety Zion Puckett were fourth-team selections.

Check out the full teams below.

A message from Athlon Sports on how they select the teams.

These are based on how players will perform in 2022. Career statistics and awards matter in the evaluation, but choosing players for the 2022 all-conference team is largely based on predicting and projecting the best for the upcoming year. Also, team strength does not play a role in selections. These are the best individual players at each position in the league for ’22.

Tigers of the Game: Auburn falls to Alabama 24-22 in overtime

Man, these Tigers played their tail off.

Auburn nearly pulled off a stunning upset.

For the first time ever, the Iron Bowl needed overtime to determine a winner. Ultimately, Auburn was unable to pull off the upset, falling 24-22 to Alabama.

Auburn led 10-0 going into the fourth quarter but the defense ran out of gas and Alabama scored on a last-minute drive to force overtime. In the fourth overtime, Auburn failed their 2-point conversion and Alabama completed theirs for the victory.

Here are the Tigers of the Game from yet another classic showdown in this storied rivalry.

Tigers of the Game: Auburn losses to Texas A&M

Let’s focus on some of the good from Saturday…

Man, that was tough.

Auburn had one of their worst offensive showings in quite some time Saturday, falling to Texas A&M 20-3, in a defensive slug fest.

Auburn managed just 226 yards of offense and repeatedly made unforced mistakes as the game slipped away.

Here are the Tigers of the Game from Auburn’s loss to Texas A&M.

Auburn names Oscar Chapman and Zion Puckett captains for Arkansas game

Auburn names their captains for the Arkansas game.

Ahead of their game against Arkansas, Auburn has named Oscar Chapman and Zion Puckett the honorary captains for the game. They will join permanent captains Chandler Wooten and Owen Pappoe.

Chapman has become the Tigers primary punter after splitting duties with Aidan Marshall last season. Chapman, who is from Adelaide, South Australia, is averaging 44.33 yards per punt on 21 attempts. He has pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line seven times and has four punts over 50 yards.

Puckett has started the Tigers last five games and has emerged as a key player in the secondary. The redshirt sophomore is fourth on the team with 27 tackles.

Tigers of the Game: Auburn loses to Georgia

Here are our Tigers of the game…

Auburn was unable to convert on their chances in their 34-10 loss to Georgia.

Auburn took a 3-0 lead before Georgia scored 17-straight points to take a lead and never looked back. The Tigers made three trips into the red zone but came away with just 10 points and was unable to score in the second or third quarter as Georgia added to their lead.

The loss was Auburn’s fifth straight in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

The outcome was not what Auburn was hoping for but several Auburn players played well and deserve recognition. Here is a look at the players who played best in each phase for Auburn.
