Magic at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 111, Magic 104

Moneyline

PASS.

There is better value on the Pelicans (-175) spread.

Against the spread

BET PELICANS -4.5 (-105).

Orlando has failed to cover in 4 of its last 5 games. It has scored 104 or fewer points in 3 of its last 4 games and will not be able to keep up with a Pelicans squad that has scored 111 or more points in 4 of its last 6. New Orleans is 2-1 ATS in its last 3 home games while playing as a favorite.

Over/Under

BET OVER 208.5 (-105).

While both squads have performed poorly against the Over recently, 208.5 is too low of a total to feel comfortable betting the Under. The Magic have scored 104 or more points in 8 of their last 10 while allowing 100 or more in 5 of their last 6 games. The Pelicans have scored 104 or more points in 9 of their last 10 while allowing 100 or more in 8 of their last 10.

Orlando Magic at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Orlando Magic at New Orleans Pelicans odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (25-36) take on the New Orleans Pelicans (30-31) Monday at Smoothie King Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Magic vs. Pelicans odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Magic were unable to cover as 2.5-point home favorites in their 121-108 loss to the Indiana Pacers Saturday. Orlando is currently 3.5 games behind the Washington Wizards for the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Pelicans were blown out 128-106 as 4-point road underdogs against the New York Knicks Saturday. New Orleans is amid a 3-game losing skid and in 10th place in the Western Conference but are only 1.5 games back of the No. 6 seed.

The Magic and the Pelicans will be meeting for the second time this season on Monday. Orlando won 123-110 as a 1-point home underdog and the Over (229.5) connected on Jan. 20.

Magic at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 117, Magic 111

Moneyline

AVOID.

Considering how the Pelicans (-200) have performed recently, it isn’t worth taking their moneyline at the current odds given the risk.

Against the spread

Even with the team’s recent struggles, PELICANS -4.5 (-115) is the pick as I believe this is a solid get-right spot for New Orleans at home. The Magic don’t have anyone to contain F Brandon Ingram and the Pelicans should have the size advantage with C Jonas Valanciunas.

Over/Under

UNDER 228.5 (-115) is how I’d bet the total with how these teams play. The Magic and the Pelicans are both in the bottom half of the league in pace and offensive rating in their last 10 games.

The Under is also 14-5 in the last 19 meetings between these teams in New Orleans.

Orlando Magic at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Orlando Magic at New Orleans Pelicans NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New Orleans Pelicans (21-25) host the Orlando Magic (16-31) Thursday at Smoothie King Center for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Magic-Pelicans odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Orlando stole a game from the Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday, winning 103-96 as an 11-point road underdog. The Magic have covered the spread in four straight games while going 2-2 straight up.

These Magic covers were against four of the top-6 seeds in the Western Conference. The last three covers have been since they unloaded PF Aaron Gordon and C Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline.

New Orleans has won four of five games while going 4-1 against the spread. The Pelicans have won back-to-back games with the latest coming against the Boston Celtics by a 115-109 score as 3-point road underdogs Monday.

The Pelicans are currently 12th in the West and are 1.5 games back of the 10th-seeded Memphis Grizzlies, for the final spot in the postseason play-in tournament.

Magic at Pelicans: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 114, Pelicans 109

Money line (ML)

Slight “LEAN” to MAGIC (+140) because I’m betting Orlando to cover the spread and the Pelicans will be without their first-, second-and third-leading scorers.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Both teams have been covering the spread for bettors recently but the Pelicans are more superstar-reliant.

This is a problem since their two young stars will miss this game, and I’m higher on Orlando head coach Steve Clifford than New Orleans’ Stan Van Gundy.

This is the prototypical game where the young Pelicans underperform. New Orleans is 5-10 ATS this season as a home favorite and 5-9 ATS at home against sub-.500 teams. Essentially these trends indicate the Pelicans sleep on bad teams.

Furthermore, according to CleaningTheGlass.com, New Orleans is 6-8 overall with the 22nd-best net points per 100 possessions and a minus-3.1-point ATS margin vs. teams in the bottom-10 of points per 100 possessions differential.

BET MAGIC +4 (-110) for 1.25 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS because a major reason why New Orleans has played in the highest percentage of Overs this season is because of its terrible defense and, again, the Pelicans will be without their top-3 scorers.

Even though my predicted score is lower than the total, I “LEAN” Over 214.5 (-105) because anyone can make threes against this Pelicans defense and I’m sure New Orleans will resort to chucking threes thanks to injuries.
