Oregon extends offer to 2027 8th grade phenom QB Trent Seaborn

The Ducks have extended an offer to 2027 QB Trent Seaborn, an 8th grader who won a 7A high school state championship this year in Alabama.

Sometimes when you identify a future star in the making, you have to try and get in early.

That appears to be what the Oregon Ducks are doing after extending a scholarship offer to 2027 QB Trent Seaborn, a current 8th grader from the state of Alabama. Seaborn has been in the news recently after winning the steering QB job on Thompson High School’s Varsity team, and then leading said team to win the 7A State Championship.

Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

At 6-foot, 178 pounds, the 8th grader has picked up a number of offers already, including from Arizona State, Arkansas, Maryland, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Wisconsin. He hopes to take a visit to Eugene this summer, per SB Live.

As a 2027 prospect, Seaborn does not yet have much of a recruiting profile, but it will be interesting to see how the hype around him grows as he continues to develop and blossom in his career.

5-star S KJ Bolden to visit Eugene for Oregon’s Spring Game

5-star safety KJ Bolden, the No. 2 ranked player in the 2024 class, is coming to Eugene for the Oregon Spring Game.

The Oregon Ducks are quickly building a star-studded guest list for the annual spring game being held at the end of April, adding a pair of 5-stars to the list of RSVPs over the past 24 hours.

After 5-star EDGE Dylan Stewart confirmed that he would be attending the spring game on Thursday, 5-star safety KJ Bolden announced that he would also be in Eugene for the game as well.

Bolden is rated as the No. 2 overall player in the 2024 class, per 247Sports, and the top safety in the nation. He currently has visits set to Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, USC, and Oregon this spring.

While we know that both Stewart and Bolden will be in town for the spring game, it’s also been announced that the Elite 11 Camp will be hosting a regional at Sheldon High School in Eugene that weekend of Oregon’s spring game as well, bringing a ton of top-rated players to campus.

Top-rated recruit from every state for Oregon Ducks football since 2000

In recent years, the Ducks have expanded their recruiting reach, grabbing players from across the country. Here are their top recruits from each state.

The reach of the Oregon Ducks has been expanding over the past decade or so when it comes to the world of recruiting in college football. It used to be that the Ducks would take a majority of their players from the northwest, and occasionally pull some of the top talents from the state of California as well.

Over the past few years, though, that has changed. Now the Ducks have gone national, with a heavy push into the state of Texas, the Northeast, and the deep south, getting top-rated players from some of the deepest pools of high school football in the nation.

While Dan Lanning is the latest in a long line of coaches to preach that keeping the best players in the state at home is key to success, the fact that Oregon has made a push into states like Texas, Arizona, and Florida is part of the reason why the Ducks have found such great success in the recruiting world over the past decade.

We thought it would be a fun exercise to go back through the all-time 247Sports recruiting database and pick out the highest-ranked commit from each state since the year 2000 just to see what it would look like. We only go back that far because that’s when things started to really get measured in the high-stakes game of recruiting wars.

Here is a look at the best recruit from every state the Ducks have landed on campus to play football.

5-star EDGE Dylan Stewart locks in visit for Oregon’s spring game

5-star Dylan Stewart — the No. 1 overall player in 2024, per On3 — will be in Eugene for Oregon’s Spring game.

The 2024 recruiting cycle is starting to heat up, and the Oregon Ducks are at the center of the action, as per usual.

With the recruiting dead period now behind us, we are expecting to see a number of visits from recruits to Eugene over the next several weeks as spring ball gets underway. We most recently got word that 5-star EDGE Dylan Stewart will be in town at the end of April, coming to Eugene for Oregon’s annual spring game.

Stewart is rated as the No. 28 overall player in the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 4 EDGE in the nation. However, according to On3, Stewart is the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 class.

We don’t have a lengthy list of prospects who will be in Eugene for Oregon’s spring game just yet, but with word that the Elite 11 Camp will be hosting a regional at Sheldon High School that week, you can expect there will be star-studded crop of players in town to check out the Ducks.

Oregon commit Fox Crader and primary Ducks LB target receive ratings boosts

Oregon commit Fox Crader and primary Ducks LB target receive ratings boosts

The Oregon Ducks have had a strong start to the 2024 recruiting cycle, with the No. 8 class already in the 247Sports national rankings. There’s a good chance that it’s going to get even better, with a recent ratings boost for one commit, and one primary target coming down the pipeline over the last week.

According to the On3 rankings, Oregon OT Fox Crader received a nice boost in the national rankings. The 4-star prospect has moved up to No. 72 overall in the 2024 class, when he was previously ranked at No. 146, per On3. Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Crader is listed as the No. 315 player in the nation.

Oregon commit OT Fox Crader was another major mover in the new On300 as he jumped a whopping 146 spots into the top 75 in the country. Crader, who hails from the Pacific Northwest, grew into his frame as a junior playing in a 6-foot-6, 285-pound frame, and turning a corner and setting the temp at left tackle for Vancouver (Wash.) Evergreen. Crader is a first off the bus type of player, and in spite of size and length, is nimble and very mobile. The future Duck thrives off a physical style and run blocks at a high level. Crader’s ability to hold up in pass pro isn’t far off either, as one of several really intriguing tackles in this class.

Fox committed to Oregon back in November of 2021, but has had some interesting developments in his recruitment since. The 4-star Washington OT recently received offers from the Georgia Bulldogs and Pittsburg Panthers, a pair of schools where he plans to take visits to this coming spring and summer.

As for Justin Williams, a 4-star LB who is currently favored to land with the Ducks according to 247Sports’ Crystal Ball Predictions, a big jump in the rankings was seen as well. Williams is all the way up to No. 39 per On3’s rankings, where he previously sat at No. 103.

Linebacker Justin Williams is one of the nation’s best athletes at the position and was among the biggest risers in this 2024 On300. The District Defensive Player out of the Year out of Conroe (Texas) Oak Ridge in North Houston, Williams rose up 65 spots into the top 40 nationally as plagued opposing offensive play-callers much of last fall. The uber-athletic middle backer has special speed to get sideline to sideline and continuously flies to the ball. Williams reads and reacts at a high rate, and is a sure-tackler capable of providing some jaunting pops on occasion. The Texas linebacker has a knack for ripping balls loose and can be an effective pass-rush piece and is proven at clogging up running lanes. Oregon is the favorite early on the RPM for one of the nation’s best defenders.

According to the 247Sports Composite Ranking, Williams is the No. 37 ranked player in the nation.

5 things to know about Oregon’s new ILB coach Brian Michalowski

A young, up-and-coming defensive coach with a strong recruiting background and a history coaching alongside Dan Lanning. Brian Michalowski checks all of the boxes at Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks made some hiring moves official on Monday, one that we knew about, and one that was news to the general public and media members alike.

The Ducks announced that longtime veteran coach Mike Cavanaugh was joining Oregon’s staff as an assistant OL coach and an offensive analyst. The Ducks also announced the hiring of Brian Michalowski, who will join the staff as an assistant inside linebackers coach.

Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is currently listed as the linebackers coach, and head coach Dan Lanning also has an extensive history of coaching linebackers, so there is no shortage of expertise now on the coaching staff.

We spent the weekend telling you all about what you needed to know about Cavanaugh and his 35-plus years of coaching experience, so let’s do the same with Michalowski. Here’s what you need to know about the Ducks’ newest defensive coach.

Oregon’s roster among the most ‘lethal’ in nation going into 2023

247Sports has Oregon’s 2023 roster ranked among the very best in the nation this offseason.

We recently started our deep dive into the Oregon Ducks roster going into the 2023 spring football season. Earlier in the week, we looked at how many top recruits were on the current Oregon roster, coming to the conclusion that this could be among the most talented rosters that we’ve ever seen in Eugene.

It’s becoming clear that this opinion is not one held just by Oregon fans, but a common thought in the world of college football. Recently, 247Sports went through the top teams in the nation and tried to determine who had the most “lethal” roster going into 2023, using recruiting grades and talent levels on current rosters to determine who is set up the most for success.

It should come as no surprise that the Ducks are among the top teams after five straight years of having the No. 1 recruiting class in the Pac-12, and ranking inside the top 15 nationally for the last six years straight.

So where do the Ducks rank among the most lethal rosters going into 2023? Take a look.

Oregon’s roster in 2023 set to be among most talented in school history

There is no shortage of talent on Oregon’s roster this year. 25 of the top-100 rated recruits in UO history are on the 2023 roster.

At this point in the sporting calendar, while college football fans across the nation are anxiously waiting for spring football to start in a matter of weeks, we often try to project how the top teams in the nation are going to look at the start of next season.

It’s an easy rabbit hole to get sucked into, looking at past performance, recruiting rankings, returning production, and incoming transfers, all of which help us formulate an opinion on who we think is going to be the best in the upcoming season. For the Oregon Ducks, those aforementioned categories are all fun to talk about, since Eugene has been home to some very successful football over the years, with a bright future ahead thanks to elite recruiting and encouraging transfers added to the mix.

What’s encouraging about the 2023 season, though, is that it could feature one of the most talented rosters we’ve ever seen at Oregon. It’s hard to quantify talent, but one of the best ways is to look back at recruiting rankings and go from there. Of course, some of the best players in Oregon history were not highly-rated recruits — take Marcus Mariota or Justin Herbert, for example — so predicting success based on a 247Sports score is not a perfect practice. However, if you look at some of the top recruits in Oregon history — Kayvon Thibodeaux, Haloti Ngata, Jonathan Stewart, etc. — then you can see that it offers at least a solid representation of perceived talent.

For this exercise, we looked at Oregon’s current roster heading into spring football and took a look at how many of them fall in the top 100 of Oregon’s all-time recruiting list.

Again, it doesn’t offer a perfect picture of how good the Ducks can be in 2023, since some of the players who we expect to be the biggest impact players may not have been highly-rated recruits, but it does show that Oregon’s current roster is among the most talented we’ve ever seen in Eugene.

Top-50 ATH Aaron Butler lists Oregon among top schools

4-star ATH Aaron Butler has put the Ducks among his top schools after decommitting from USC in January.

The Oregon Ducks are working hard to pick up a recruit who ended up turning down the USC Trojans.

4-star athlete Aaron Bulter, a top-50 rated player who decommitted from USC back in January, recently announced his top five schools, keeping Oregon in the mix alongside Georgia, Alabama, Colorado, and Washington.

Butler is rated as the No. 42 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 7 athlete. He is expected to play either at cornerback or wide receiver at the next level.

Butler has not yet taken a visit to Eugene, but he could do so in the coming months. He recently took visits to both Washington and Georiga.

The Bulldogs currently lead in predictions to land Butler, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

4-star Oregon commit picks up offer from Georgia Bulldogs

4-star Oregon commit Fox Crader got an offer from the defending national champions on Wednesday.

The Oregon Ducks have done a great job getting out to a hot start on the recruiting trail after finishing the 2023 cycle with one of the top 10 classes in the nation. Already, Oregon has the No. 8 class in the 2024 cycle, with a handful of highly-rated 4-stars.

However, it appears that the defending national champions are working to steal one of those highly-rated recruits away. It was announced on Wednesday that 4-star OT Fox Crader, who committed to Oregon back in December, received an offer from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Crader, who stands at 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 23 OT and 343 overall player in the 2024 class. Coming from Vancouver, Washington, Crader has been recruited heavily by the Ducks, who wanted to keep him in the Pacific Northwest for his college years.

There is no word yet on whether a visit will eventually come of this offer.

Crader is not the only Oregon commit who has become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. 4-star WR Jordan Anderson, the No. 13 WR in the 2024 class, received an offer from Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes earlier in the year as well.
