Remaining transfer targets and updated scholarship count for Oregon Ducks

The Ducks added 4 players to the roster since Saturday. Here’s where it leaves the scholarship count, and a couple of remaining targets on the market.

Update: This article was written before former Colorado Buffaloes cornerback Nikko Reed committed to the Ducks. The numbers have been updated to reflect his commitment.

The last few days have been filled with transfer portal activity for the Oregon Ducks, with Dan Lanning and his staff adding multiple players via the transfer portal and filling out their roster with the handful of remaining scholarships that they have at their disposal.

On Saturday, the Ducks added Colorado tight end Kaden Ludwick, a former Clackamas native, as well as former USC Trojans’ receiver Gary Bryant Jr. Then on Monday morning, former East Carolina offensive lineman Nishad Strother announced that he would be committing to the Ducks.

With all of the roster moves, the Ducks jumped up in the transfer portal rankings. However, where does all of the movement leave them when it comes to the scholarship count, and who are some players left in the transfer portal that the Ducks are reportedly targeting and looking to add? Let’s take a look:

Ducks now predicted to land Colorado CB transfer Nikko Reed

Last time a CB from Colorado came to Oregon, it worked out pretty well. Looks like the Ducks are going back to that well.

The last time that Oregon Ducks coach Demetrice Martin went into Boulder and brought one of his former Colorado Buffalo players to Eugene, it worked out pretty well.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks have to be hoping that they can see lightning strike twice, working hard to land a transfer from former Colorado cornerback Nikko Reed, who was in Eugene for a visit this past weekend.

While Christian Gonzalez saw tremendous success after coming from Colorado to Oregon, there is a hope that Reed can do the same, if he does end up becoming a Duck. On Monday morning, 247Sports analyst Greg Biggens logged a Crystal Ball Prediction for Reed to commit to Oregon and follow Coach Meat to Eugene.

Coming out of high school, Coach Meat was Reed’s primary recruiter. Reed went on to have a couple of solid seasons with the Buffs, but is now looking for a new home as part of the mass exodus from Boulder once Deion Sanders came to town. We will see in the coming days if the Ducks are able to land him and add him to the roster.

It should be known that at the current moment, Oregon is believed to have a pair of scholarships left to work with this offseason, though it’s unclear at the moment whether they have one or two.

4-star CB Dakoda Fields puts Oregon among top schools

The elite defensive back recruiting continues for the Oregon Ducks in the 2024 class, this time with one of the top cornerbacks in the cycle placing Oregon among his top schools.

4-star CB Dakoda Fields announced his top schools this weekend, grouping the Ducks with other schools like USC, Ohio State, Washington and Miami.

Fields is rated as the No. 78 overall player and No. 10 CB in the 2925 class, per the 247Sports Composite. Fields also has been predicted to commit to Oregon by both 247Sports’ Greg Biggens and Steve Wiltfong.

Oregon already has commitments from 4-star CB Ify Obidegwu and 4-star S Aaron Flowers in the 2024 cycle,  pair of top-115 defensive backs.

Fields was high school teammates with Oregon signed Rodrick Pleasant at Garden Serra HS in California.

4-star QB Michael Van Buren pushes up commitment date; Ducks remain favorites

4-star QB Michael Van Buren pushed his commitment up to this coming week. The Ducks are still the favorites to land him.

The Oregon Ducks are going to be finding out in a matter of days whether or not they can add one of the top passers in the 2024 class to their recruiting haul this spring.

On Sunday night, 4-star quarterback Michael Van Buren announced that he would be pushing up his commitment date to Saturday, May 20. Previously, Van Buren was scheduled to announce his commitment on July 8.

The Ducks remain the favorites to land Van Buren, who took a pair of visits to Eugene over the past month. After his visit for the Oregon spring game, a slew of predictions from 247Sports Crystal Ball came in showing that the Ducks were the favorites to land MVB.

Van Buren is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 11 QB in the 2024 class, and No. 129 overall player. The Ducks already have a commitment from 3-star QB Luke Moga in the class of 2024, but there is a notion that they are willing and hoping to take a pair of quarterbacks in the cycle.

We will find out this coming weekend if that will be the case.

Ducks add former Colorado TE via the transfer portal

The Ducks added a new player on Saturday, picking up a versatile TE from Colorado.

The Oregon Ducks are bringing a new player into the mix, and one who has versatility and can play multiple positions of need for the team.

Former Colorado Buffaloes linebacker Kaden Ludwick announced on Saturday that he would be transferring back home to Oregon, where he grew up and played high school ball in Clackamas.

Ludwick redshirted as a freshman in Boulder, but comes to Eugene with plans of playing tight end, which is a position of need for the Ducks. Ludwick was classified as a linebacker coming out of high school, which could also be a place where he could help alleviate depth issues in Eugene.

The Ducks now have a pair of scholarships free to use this offseason.

Oregon offers younger brother of current Duck’s WR

Oregon offers younger brother of current Duck’s WR

It’s starting to look like the Kasper family is going to be the next version of the Sewell family or the Williams family in Eugene. While both Penei Sewell and Noah Sewell dominated for the Ducks, and Bennett Williams paved the way for his brother Evan to succeed at Oregon as well, it could be redshirt freshman WR Kyler Kasper and his younger brother Braylon who do it next.

The Ducks extended an offer to Braylon, and 8th-grade WR this past week. Braylon won’t be eligible to sign until the class of 2027, but based on the high ceiling we’ve seen from current Oregon WR Kyler, and their father Kevin — a former NFL wide receiver — there seems to be a pretty good chance that Braylon will be a highly-coveted recruit.

Kyler is entering his second year with the Ducks and is expected to take a big jump in production after enrolling early last season.

5-star DL puts Oregon Ducks among top schools

The No. 4 ranked DL in the 2024 class has Oregon among his top schools.

One of the most impressive things to see from Dan Lanning over his first two recruiting cycles with the Oregon Ducks has been the ability to bring an SEC mentality on the defensive line to the pacific northwest.

We saw a long list of big-bodied linemen join the Ducks this past offseason both via recruiting and the transfer portal, and it’s likely that we continue to see that going forward as well. Lanning seems to be on a good path in the 2024 cycle, landing in the top 10 for 5-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland.

According to 247Sports, Breland is rated as the No. 25 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 4 DL. He plays at Mater Dei down in California, and is familiar with the lay of the land out on the west coast.

We will see in the coming months if Oregon can keep him close to home and bring him up to Eugene.

4-star top 100 QB in 2025 puts Oregon among top schools

The No. 6 rated QB in the class of 2025 has his eyes on the Oregon Ducks.

When quarterback recruits pop into the news cycle, the ears of college football fans tend to perk up.

So even though Cutter Boley, a 4-star QB from Lexington, Kentucky, won’t be heading to college until 2025, it became newsworthy on Friday afternoon when he announced his top 10 schools, keeping the Oregon Ducks among those like Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, and many others.

Boley is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 QB in the 2025 class, and the No. 72 overall player in the nation. He received an offer from Oregon last fall, but has yet to take a visit out to Eugene to see Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

As he continues his recruitment going into his junior season, we will likely see the 2025 passer find his way out west and see what Oregon has to offer.

4-Star CB names Oregon as one of his top schools

Another 4-star recruit in the class of 2024 names UO as one of his top schools. Check out CB Selman Bridges here:

Since coming to Eugene last year, head coach Dan Lanning and defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin have recruited an abundance of highly-skilled DBs. Former Alabama CB Khyree Jackson, high school track star Rodrick Pleasant, and 4-star Cole Martin — Demetrice’s son — were all recruited under the tandem of Martin and Lanning.

Now at the start of the 2024 recruiting cycle, Lanning and Martin seem to have another talented DB interested in Oregon. Yesterday, CB Selman Bridges named UO as one of his top nine schools. Bridges is a 4-star player who hails from Texas, which is the state home to four of his other top schools.

At 6’3″ Bridges is much taller than the typical CB, but he still possesses the breakaway speed that is vital for a lockdown corner. In coverage, he seems most comfortable in man-to-man sets, and he is capable both in the press and when he is backed off the line.

Even though Oregon has a surplus of young DBs, Oregon could still be an enticing destination for Bridges. In the 2023 NFL draft, former Duck Christian Gonzalez was the second CB selected, and a program’s ability to produce NFL-caliber CBs is a strong selling point.

On Wednesday, 4-star DL Xadavien Sims announced his top 5 schools and revealed that he will make his commitment on May 20. The Ducks are joined by schools like Michigan State, TCU, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma in the running to land Sims.

According to 247Sports, Sims is rated as the No. 121 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 16 defensive lineman. He took a visit to Oregon back in April after getting offered by the Ducks in January of 2023.
