5-star EDGE Jordan Ross puts Ducks among top schools after Eugene visit

5-star EDGE Jordan Ross puts Ducks among top schools after Eugene visit

Another elite player in the 2024 class has the Oregon Ducks in the mix as Dan Lanning continues to show off his ability to recruit nation-wide since coming to Eugene.

5-star EDGE Jordan Ross, the No. 1 rated player from the state of Alabama, announce his top 8 schools earlier this week, keeping the Ducks in the mix with the likes of Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and Florida.

Ross is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 EDGE in the 2024 class, and the No. 12 player overall.

Ross was in Eugene for a visit back in April during the Oregon Spring Game, and he obviously liked what he saw enough to keep the Ducks in the running. We will see in the coming months if Lanning and Co. can get him back out west for another visit — potentially an OV — and continue to make progress in his recruitment.

Ducks land in top 5 for Hawaii’s No. 1 player in 2024, become favorites for commitment

The Ducks are now projected to land the No. 1 player in Hawaii for the 2024 class.

The Hawaii to Oregon pipeline has been strong over the past decade, ever since Marcus Mariota became the first ever Hawaiian-born player to win the Heisman Trophy, bringing the award to Eugene for the first time ever.

The Ducks have continued to hit the state for some of their best recruits over the years, and they will look to keep that trend going into the future. Earlier this week, 4-star IOL Preston Taumua, the No. 1 rated player in Hawaii, announced his top 5 schools and put Oregon in the mix. Not long after, 247Sports recruiting analyst Blair Anguilo logged a Crystal Ball prediction for Taumua to end up committing to the Ducks.

Taumua is rated by 247Sports as the No. 200 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 8 interior offensive lineman.

Taumua has scheduled one of his five official visits for June 23, 2023 in Eugene, so he will be out to check out the facilities and see the type of Hawaiian identity is present in Oregon.

If that goes well, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him end up as a Duck.

Ducks pick up prediction to land elite 4-star linebacker

Ducks pick up prediction to land elite 4-star linebacker

The Oregon Ducks are among the hottest teams in the nation on the recruiting trail, and it doesn’t look like things are going to change any time soon.

While Dan Lanning and Co. picked up three blue-chip recruits over the weekend, they’re also being projected to land another top prospect in the coming months. On Monday afternoon, Oregon picked up a Crystal Ball prediction from 247Sports analyst Greg Biggens to land 4-star LB Kamar Mothudi, one of the top LB prospects for the Ducks this cycle.

Mothudi is rated as the No. 17 LB and No. 173 overall player in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

Mothudi has visited Eugene before, and he is scheduled to take an official visit to Oregon later in June. It would not be a shock to see his commitment come not too long after that.

Oregon 2024 LB target bumped up to 5-star status

Oregon 2024 LB target bumped up to 5-star status

The past week has been incredibly successful for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, and it doesn’t look like that positive momentum is going to be stopping any time soon.

While the Ducks continue to land blue-chip recruits on the trail, it looks like some of their top targets — and players they are favored to land — are getting a boost in the recruiting rankings as well.

2024 linebacker Justin Williams saw a nice boost in the most recent ratings update from 247Sports, where he is now listed as a 5-star player, ranked No. 16 overall in the nation. Williams was already a 5-star player according to the 247Sports Composite ratings. Williams is also rated as the No. 2 LB in the nation, according to 247Sports.

Back in October of last year, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong placed a Crystal Ball prediction for the Ducks to land Williams. There have also been a number of predictions placed on On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine for Williams to commit to Oregon, where the Ducks are now a heavy favorite with a 97.9% chance to get the 5-star, according to the RPM.

The Texas product has made multiple visits to Oregon over the past year, and should likely come out for an official visit in Eugene in the coming months before making a commitment.

Ducks take another jump in recruiting rankings following latest commitment

Another move up in the national recruiting rankings for the Ducks after the addition of 4-star WR Dillon Gresham on Monday.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have a full head of steam in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and it’s not looking like they plan on stopping any time soon.

It has been a banner few days in Eugene, with Oregon picking up a handful of blue-chip commitments in the class and bolstering their roster with future talent. On Saturday, 4-star QB Michael Van Buren announced his commitment to Oregon, and 4-star DL Xadavien Sims quickly followed suit. The pair of players are ranked among the top 130 nationally in their class.

On Monday, the good times kept rolling with 4-star WR Dillon Gresham announcing his commitment to Oregon as well. This now gives the Ducks 14 players in the 2024 class.

After Saturday’s events, the Ducks jumped up to the No. 6 spot in the 2024 national recruiting rankings. With the addition of Gresham, another bump came along. Here’s where they rank now:

4-star WR Dillon Gresham announces commitment to Oregon

Another quack for the Ducks. 4-star WR Dillon Gresham is coming to Eugene.

The positive momentum continues for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, with another blue-chip prospect in the 2024 class committing to play in Eugene.

On Monday morning, 4-star WR Dillon Gresham announced that he would be a Duck, becoming the third player to announce his commitment in the past three days. On Saturday, both 4-star QB Michael Van Buren and 4-star DL Xadavien Sims announced their commitments as well.

Gresham is rated as the No. 44 WR and No. 407 overall player in the 2024 class. His addition further bolsters Oregon’s incoming WR talent, where the Ducks already have commitments from 4-star Jordan Anderson (rated as the No. 16 WR, No. 106 player overall) and 4-star Tyseer Denmark (rated as the No. 20 WR, No. 124 player overall).

This now gives Oregon 14 players in the 2024 recruiting class and keeps them firmly placed well inside the top 10 rankings nationally.

Breaking down Oregon’s history of taking 2 QB recruits in a single cycle

The Ducks took 2 QBs in the 2024 cycle, the sixth time they’ve done so since 2000. What ended up happening the other five times?

The Oregon Ducks are doing something a bit different in the 2024 recruiting cycle. It’s not something that is unheard of, nor is it something that we’ve never seen take place in Eugene. But it is a methodology that you don’t see happen very much, but could see take place more going forward.

The Ducks have a pair of quarterbacks committed to the 2024 class — 4-star Michael Van Buren and 3-star Luke Moga.

[lawrence-related id=43318]

Moga committed near the end of April ahead of the Ducks’ annual spring game, while Van Buren announced his commitment over the weekend. Oftentimes in college football, you see teams take a quarterback each year to keep the depth chart stacked with talent and hopefully maintain the development cycle going forward. However, taking a pair of QBs in the same cycle can complicate things a little bit.

Obviously, both players can’t play at the same time, so it immediately creates competition between the two going forward. Who will eventually become the starter, and what will the other player decide to do? Will he wait it out and try to gain the starting spot eventually, or will he opt to look elsewhere for a starting spot in the new era of the transfer portal?

It will be fascinating to watch how things play out between Van Buren and Moga in Eugene. To try and get a sense of what we might see, I went back and looked at the other times in UO history — since 2000 — that the Ducks have taken multiple QBs in a class.

Here’s what I learned from the five times it happened.

4-star 2025 RB Anthony “Turbo” Rogers puts Oregon among his top five schools

4-star 2025 RB Anthony “Turbo” Rogers puts Oregon among his top five schools

The Oregon Ducks added to their already impressive 2024 recruiting class on Saturday with the addition of 4-star QB Michael Van Buren and 4-star DL Xadavien Sims. Looking to bridge that success into the class of 2025, Oregon has gleaned the interest of 4-Star RB, Anthony Rogers, who announced the Ducks as one of his top five schools on Monday.

In his sophomore year of high school, Rogers rushed for 2,151 yards and 27 touchdowns in just 10 games. Nicknamed “Turbo,” it’s no surprise that Rogers is exceptionally fast, but he also has a good vision for a young ball carrier. Furthermore, Rogers seems just as comfortable running up the middle as he is running outside, which isn’t the case for all speedsters.

The Oregon Ducks’ running backs coach, Carlos Locklyn came to Oregon in 2022 with Dan Lanning, and he was successful in his first recruiting cycle. In the class of 2023, Locklyn was able to bring in two top 20 RBs, Dante Dowdell and Jayden Limar. Locklyn and Rogers share the same hometown and according to Hayes Fawcett, the two have already built a good relationship.

While the start of Rogers’s college career is a few years away, his college decision is imminent. He has announced that he will choose his future school on June 2nd, even though he hasn’t visited most of the schools in his top five. So far, Oregon’s 2024 recruiting cycle has been full of good news. and perhaps in the next few weeks, Anthony Rogers will continue the streak of Ducks’ commitments.

Where does Michael Van Buren rank among highest-rated QB recruits in UO history?

Where does Michael Van Buren rank among the highest-rated QBs to ever commit to Oregon?

The Oregon Ducks had a banner day on the recruiting trail Saturday afternoon, picking up a pair of blue-chip players in the 2024 class and adding them to the mix in Eugene.

4-star quarterback Michael Van Buren and 4-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims announced their commitment to Oregon on Saturday afternoon. Both players are rated among the top 130 players in the 2024 class, offering a boost for the Ducks in the national recruiting rankings.

For the sake of this article, we want to focus on Van Buren.

While Oregon has seen a major jump in recruiting over the past decade or so, the one position group where they still haven’t had the elite of the elite players come through is at QB. We’ve seen 5-star linebackers, 5-star offensive linemen, 5-star wide receivers, and 5-star cornerbacks come through Eugene, among others. However, the highest-rated QB commit in Oregon history was a 4-star — Ty Thompson.

Van Buren doesn’t change that — he is widely rated as a high-end 4-star prospect, though ESPN has him rated as a 5-star. However, we wanted to look at how highly-rated Van Buren is when you compare him to the rest of the QB recruits in Oregon history.

Here’s where he now ranks in that group.

Former Ducks CB Jalil Tucker commits to SDSU

Former Ducks CB Jalil Tucker commits to SDSU.

Former Oregon Ducks CB, Jalil Tucker, has announced that in 2023, he will be a San Diego State Aztec. Tucker’s commitment comes a little more than a month after he entered the transfer portal, a year after coming to Oregon.

Tucker will be a freshman in 2023 after redshirting in his first season with the Ducks. Out of high school, Tucker was a 4-star recruit and was rated the ninth-best CB in the country, according to 247Sports.

Oregon has brought in several talented defensive backs in the past few recruiting cycles which has made for a crowded CB room. Some of those pickups include Colorado transfer, Nikko Reed, Alabama transfer Khyree Jackson, and freshman Cole Martin. It is possible that Tucker desired a bigger role than what he would get with the Ducks in 2023, despite his talent.

Another important thing to note is that Tucker came to Oregon along with his high school teammate, Jahlil Florence, who is also a CB. Both Tucker and Florence are from San Diego, which likely factored into Tucker’s choice to play at SDSU. In 2022, Florence had a bigger role in the Ducks’ defense, playing eight of 13 games. It’s unfortunate that the playing careers of these longtime teammates will no longer coincide, but hopefully, Tucker will see more success for himself at SDSU.
