Oregon Ducks jam-packed with top-tier official visit schedule in June

It’s OV season in the world of college football recruiting, and the Ducks are hosting some of the best players in the nation this month.

Throughout the college football season, it’s always fun to see which weekends end up being the biggest attractions for potential top-end high school prospects who are going on recruiting visits to check out their potential future homes.

During the offseason, the recruiting ramps up, though.

While there is no signing day, and very little transfer portal activity in the month of June, this is the time when official visits become prevalent. Some of the best recruits in the nation get out and make their rounds across the country to top schools. What makes these visits more important than most of the visits we see throughout the season is that they fall under the category of “official” visits rather than “unofficial” visits. In layman’s terms, that means that a school fronts all of the costs for the visit — travel, room and board, food, etc. — while those expenses fall on an athlete and his family for an unofficial visit. In other words, it allows schools to pull out all of the stops and really wine and dine a player, so to speak.

At the moment, a high school athlete only gets five official visits to go on, so they use them for schools they are seriously considered often times.

Over the past couple of weeks, a long list of official visits has been announced for some of the top players in the 2024 class. Here is an updated list of players who will be taking OV’s to Eugene in the coming month.

While Oregon Duck fans wait to see whether or not Dana Altman can get the team back on the right track in 2023 on the hardwood, it’s become very clear that he is still near the peak of his powers when it comes to recruiting.

After landing a top-10 class in the 2023 cycle, Altman is starting to put the bones together for another impressive 2024 class. While there aren’t any commitments just yet, a number of players have put the Ducks among their top schools, with the latest being 4-star point guard Del Jones.

Jones is rated as the No. 64 player in the 2024 class and the No. 7 PG. Standing at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Jones is also the No. 1 ranked player in the state over Virginia.

2024 4-star RB Ca’Lil Valentine puts Ducks in top 8

Carlos Locklyn is working to continue his strong start as the running backs’ coach for the Oregon Ducks, looking to add another elite rusher to the mix in the 2024 class.

Over the weekend, 4-star RB Ca’Lil Valentine announced his top 8 schools, listing the Ducks among the finalists alongside the likes of Miami, Michigan State, Auburn, Utah, and several others.

Valentine is listed as the No. 32 RB in the 2024 class, and the No. 359 overall player in the nation. He has yet to take a visit to Eugene, but will likely find his way out at some point this summer to check out the facilities and meet with the coaches.

Since coming to Oregon, Coach Locklyn has helped land players like Jordan James, Dante Dowdell, and Jayden Limar as recruits. He also played a hand in getting both Noah Whittington and Bucky Irving out of the transfer portal.

4-star EDGE Wyatt Gilmore puts Oregon among top schools

4-star EDGE Wyatt Gilmore puts Oregon among top schools

The defensive line is one of the positions that has seen the biggest upgrade under Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning since he came to Eugene, particularly in the recruiting sense.

This past offseason saw a long list of blue-chippers commit and sign with the Ducks on the defensive line, and it looks like Lanning is trying to continue that trend going forward.

Over the holiday weekend, Wyatt Gilmore, an elite EDGE announced that he is strongly considering the Ducks in his recruitment. Gilmore is rated by 247Sports as the No. 20 EDGE in the 2024 class. He is also listed as the No. 516 overall player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Gilmore has yet to take a visit to Eugene, but he listed the Ducks among his top schools alongside teams like Miami, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Kansas State.

We will see in the coming months how the Ducks are able to progress in his recruitment, and if they can get an official visit out of him.

Oregon’s early blue-chip ratio among nation’s best in 2024 cycle

The Ducks are on a hot streak in the 2024 recruiting cycle. So where does their blue-chip ratio rank nationally this early on?

It’s still very early in the 2024 recruiting cycle, but the Oregon Ducks are as hot as any team in the nation when it comes to success on the trail.

Over the past month or so, Dan Lanning and the Ducks have picked up commitments from a handful of blue-chip prospects, rising up the national recruiting rankings quickly, where they now sit at No. 6. While the national rankings tell us a lot about which team is getting the best players committed for next year, it doesn’t tell us everything.

You need to look at the blue chip ratio.

While a class of 20 players may look good on paper, if 10 of those players are 3-stars, is it as impressive as an Alabama class that has seven commitments, but all seven are 4 or 5-stars? Definitely not.

When you look at blue-chip ratio — how many 4-stars or 5-stars make up your total class — it gives a more detailed look at the talent you’ve gained this cycle. For the Oregon Ducks, the blue-chip ratio is certainly something to be proud of.

Here’s where they ran so far in the 2024 cycle when you look at things through that lens.

4-star LB puts Oregon amongst top schools; Ducks remain favorites for commitment

4-star LB puts Oregon amongst top schools; Ducks remain favorites for commitment

The Oregon Ducks are gearing up for a massive month of June when it comes to recruiting visits, and they got a good start over the weekend with a blue-chip player who is trending in their direction.

4-star LB Kamar Mothudi released his top 5 schools ahead of this commitment, with the Ducks listed among them. Others included were Washington, Texas, Utah, and Michigan State.

Oregon is currently the heavy favorite to land Mothudi, who is rated as the No. 173 player in the 2024 class, and No. 17 LB. There have been two crystal ball predictions on 247Sports from Steve Wiltfong and Greg Biggens for Mothudi to commit to the Ducks.

Mothudi has not yet announced when his commitment will come, but Lanning and the Ducks have to feel pretty confident with where they stand.

Under Dan Lanning’s tenure, the Oregon Ducks have attracted many elite QB recruits. In the class of 2023, it was top 15 QBs, Dante Moore and Austin Novosad, though Moore ultimately flipped to UCLA. In the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Ducks have secured commitments from 4-star QB Michael Van Buren and 3-star Luke Moga. Looking to 2025, it seems the Ducks’ streak of QB fortune could be continued.

Earlier this month, Oregon native Bear Bachmeier — a 4-star QB in the class of 2025 — received an offer from the Ducks and expressed great interest in Oregon on Twitter. Now, it seems the Ducks have garnered the interest of another high-level 2025 QB prospect in Deuce Knight. Knight is a 4-star player rated as the 4th best QB in the class of 2025. On Friday, he announced his top ten schools, which included Oregon, Georgia, and Tennessee. While most of Knight’s schools are located in the midwest and the south, Knight also named Washington in his top ten, meaning Oregon hasn’t been the only Pacific school to draw his interest.

5-star EDGE Colin Simmons schedules official visit to Oregon

5-star EDGE Colin Simmons schedules official visit to Oregon

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are in the running to land a number of top-rated recruits in the 2024 class, and as the summer cycle of recruiting draws near, we are seeing more and more of those players schedule official visits to Eugene to come check out the area and give the Ducks a closer look.

One of the latest blue-chip players to do so is 5-star EDGE Colin Simmons, who is rated as the No. 4 player and No. 1 EDGe in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Simmons was supposed to visit for the Oregon spring game last month but had to cancel the visit. He has been out to Eugene before and has a good relationship with Lanning and the other coaches.

Top-30 SG Cam Scott schedules official visit to Oregon

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks will receive an official visit from 4-star SG Cam Scott early this summer.

While the on-court product has been a bit frustrating to watch over the past couple of seasons, Dana Altman’s recruiting prowess has remained as good as ever.

With a top-10 class signed in the 2023 cycle, Altman is making a strong push in the 2024 cycle with some of the top recruits on the board. The latest player Oregon has zeroed in on is 4-star shooting guard Cam Scott, a 6-foot-5 athlete from Lexington, Kentucky who is rated as the No. 28 overall player and No. 5 SG in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Scott recently announced that he will be taking an official visit to Eugene on June 1st to check out the Ducks and see if he wants to have a future with Oregon.

The Ducks don’t yet have any commitments in the class of 2024, but several visits have already taken place, and will continue to take place over the coming months.

5-star DL Aydin Breland sets official visit to Eugene

A Top-10 recruit in the class of 2023 has scheduled a visit with the Oregon Ducks.

Earlier this month, 5-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland, announced the Oregon Ducks as one of his top 12 schools. On Tuesday, Breland announced that Oregon, Georgia, and Miami will be where he takes three of his five available official visits. His visit with the Ducks is scheduled for June 23rd, which is the last of the three.

Breland is currently a student at Mater Dei High School, a California school known for churning out college and NFL talent. Currently, Breland is rated as a 5-star player by 247Sports, which also rates him as the sixth-best player in the country, and the second-best DL.

In 2023, it seems likely that Oregon’s star defensive linemen will be the returning Duck, Brandon Dorlus, and South Carolina transfer Jordan Burch. However, Dorlus and Burch are both seniors and after 2023, the Ducks will likely need to find talented pass-rushers and run-stoppers to replace them. If Oregon is able to attract Breland, he could be a perfect replacement for Dorlus or Burch and could even have the potential to be an All-American.
