Early projection for Oregon Ducks’ starters on defense for 2024 football season

An early projection for the Oregon Ducks defensive starters heading into the 2024 college football season.

With the 2023 college football season behind us, attention has turned to roster construction. How are player decisions and events lining up for Dan Lanning as the Oregon Ducks head into a new conference in 2024.

We have significant clarity when it comes to which players are returning, which are leaving and which are joining the team via the transfer portal this offseason.

As a result, we have a pretty good idea who the starters will be as the Ducks kick off their Big Ten era. Here’s our estimation for the defensive side of the ball.

Projecting Ducks 2023 depth chart following first week of fall camp

Projecting Ducks 2023 depth chart following first week of fall camp

The first week of fall camp is now behind us in Eugene, and the Oregon Ducks are full steam ahead going into the 2023 season. While media members have not had a chance to watch practices yet, through interviews with both coaches and players, we’ve got a good sense of players who are standing out and making a big leap following the offseason.

We are less than a month away from the first game of the year on September 2 against the Portland State Vikings, so Dan Lanning and his staff have to be formalizing a depth chart and seeing which players work the best with each unit on the squad.

Though we won’t know the starters until that first Saturday in September, here is our projection for Oregon’s depth chart following the first week of fall camp.

Projecting Ducks’ defensive depth chart following Oregon Spring Game

A projection of the defensive depth chart in 2023 for Oregon, following the spring game.

Spoiler Alert: Devon Jackson and Cole Martin moved up.

The Oregon Ducks’ spring game came and went, and with it came the close of the spring football season in Eugene. We are now once again officially in the second part of the offseason, waiting for a few months until players get back on the gridiron ahead of the start of the 2023 season.

We covered the spring game extensively over the past couple of days. Whether it’s our biggest takeaways or an overall report card for each position group, we’ve got you covered. I also told you my thoughts on QB Ty Thompson, and how after a rough start to the game, I was incredibly impressed at how he turned things around and had a nice outing.

We’ve got attendance numbers, a photo galleryTwitter reactions, and a look back on how all of the recruits in town enjoyed the experience. Now it’s time to look forward and see if we learned anything from these past several weeks.

Coming into the spring, we had an idea about what the depth chart was going to look like for the Ducks. After watching practices and the scrimmage on Saturday, we may have updated opinions on how things are going to shape out.

If you missed our offensive depth chart projection on Monday, you can find it here.

Here’s our updated prediction for the Oregon depth chart, starting with the defense:

After weeks of watching practice and Saturday’s spring game, here’s our projected offensive roster for the Oregon Ducks.

Projecting Oregon Ducks’ defensive depth chart heading into spring football

Oregon’s defense has the talent to be much-improved in 2023. Here’s our projection for the depth chart once spring ball starts.

We are currently in the midst of one of the slowest periods of the college football calendar. Signing day is behind us, a recruiting dead period is soon to come to a close, and the transfer portal is on hold until the start of May.

Fortunately, spring football is only a few weeks away for the Oregon Ducks.

It’s been announced that the annual Oregon Spring Game will take place on April 29. Dan Lanning said that the team expects to have a couple of practices before spring break starts for the students on March 25, so it’s likely that within the next few weeks, we start to see some players take the field in Eugene.

Earlier in the week, we went through our offensive depth chart projections, looking at who will be working alongside Bo Nix and filling out the remade offensive line. Now we want to go to the other side of the ball and look at the defense.

Who fills out the defensive line alongside Brandon Dorlus and Jordan Burch? Which cornerbacks do we expect to step up and fill out the starting lineup? How many of the incoming transfers will be able to come in and crack the starting lineup?

Welcome to spring football season. Yes, it’s a bit early, but we were too excited not to get started.

Here is our defensive two-deep projection ahead of spring ball:

Spring football is only a couple of weeks away in Eugene. What type of lineups should we expect offensively for the Ducks?

To start our preview of the spring season, we wanted to kick things off with an early projection of what the two-deep depth chart might look like, beginning with the offense. While QB Bo Nix is returning, the Ducks are dealing with a major overhaul of the offensive line, and there are also some questions to answer at the wide receiver position.

Predicting the Ducks’ two-deep depth chart ahead of 2022 season-opener against Georgia

Our prediction of what Oregon’s depth chart will look like against the Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s been a long time coming, but game week is officially here for the Oregon Ducks. In just a matter of days, we will see this new-look team on the field led by Dan Lanning and his new staff.

There is still a load of questions to be answered before we can be sure about how good this team really is going to be this year. Many of those questions won’t be answered because they have to do with where players will line up on the field, and who the starters will be. Oregon will not be releasing a depth chart ahead of the first game of the year, but through several practices and a couple of scrimmages, we have gathered enough information to formulate an idea about what that depth chart may look like.

There are still a few positions where we are unsure, but for the most part, this is how I expect things to look on Saturday afternoon.

Projecting Oregon Ducks’ two-deep depth chart following first scrimmage of fall camp

The Ducks have their first scrimmage of fall camp now behind them, so here’s a projection of where the depth chart stands.

We are a little bit more than a week into the fall season for the Oregon Ducks, and the first big event just took place, with Dan Lanning’s first scrimmage of the season now in the rearview mirror.

Though the scrimmage was closed to media members, Lanning discussed what took place afterwards, and reported that both the offense and defense looked pretty good, with the offense starting out hot, and the defense buckling down and forcing a couple of turnovers late.

What’s most important is that there appear to have been no major injuries, and all of the players on the roster got a chance to showcase what they have been working on during the offseason and try to find a place on the depth chart.

So after a week of camp, what does that depth chart look like? Here’s our best estimation based on what we’ve seen at practice thus far:

A premature look at Oregon Ducks 2022 offensive and defensive two-deep depth charts

It’s never too early to look to the future. Here’s our prediction on what the 2022 Oregon depth charts may look like.

The 2021 season quite literally just came to an end with a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Alamo Bowl. While we watch the Oregon Ducks continue to fill out their coaching staff under Dan Lanning and work towards what should be a very bright future, it’s hard not to look at the players on the roster and try to predict where they might line up next season.

The roster is extremely fluid, as a number of players are yet to decide of if they will return or not, and the 2022 recruiting class hasn’t been completely signed as of yet. Still, it’s a fun experiment to see if we can project where certain players will end up after having another offseason under their belts.

So without further ado, here is our prediction for the Ducks’ 2022 depth chart, starting with the offense:
