Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce among NFL stars asked to choose between seeing Barbie or Oppenheimer

Where will Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Kirk Cousins be on Barbenheimer weekend?

A few NFL stars shared where they’ll fall on “Barbenheimer” weekend, as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce weighed in on the moviegoing experience, as did Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Mahomes was supportive of both films. However, since he is a girl dad, he said he’ll be seeing Barbie with his daughter. Kelce said he’d be seeing Barbie because, well, he doesn’t know what Oppenheimer is.

On the other side, Cousins said he’s a fan of real-life stories told on film so he’d be trying to get in a screening of Oppenheimer ahead of Vikings training camp.

As a bonus, NFL personalities Emmanuel Acho, Nate Burleson and MJ Acosta shared that they were all planning on seeing Barbie.

Are you more like Mahomes and Kelce and ready to see Barbie, or are you more like Cousins and ready to see Oppenheimer. We fully recommend you check out both when you can, perhaps in a double feature this weekend.

Maybe someone can show Kelce an Oppenheimer trailer while we’re at it?

What is the proper ‘Barbenheimer’ viewing order? A debate.

Are you seeing Barbie first, or Oppenheimer?

Friday, July 21 is going to be a huge day for Hollywood as the highly anticipated Barbie and Oppenheimer hit theaters. Tens of thousands of moviegoers will attempt the double-header, but what is the correct order to consume the pair of films?

Do you go for the seemingly light-hearted and brightly pink Barbie? The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-led movie with soundtrack hits from artists like Dua Lipa?

Or do you start with the intensity of Christopher Nolan’s latest as he weaves the narrative of how the atomic bomb was created? The Cillian Murphy-led epic that will likely make you question humanity as a whole?

An edited photo of Mr. Met with the Oppenheimer cast had fans joking about the Mets’ season

Mr Met. took a photo with the Oppenheimer cast, and people quickly found the joke.

If you hadn’t heard, the New York Mets are having a pretty horrible season after being tipped as 2023 World Series favorites in the spring.

Mets fans got a bit of a reprieve from the disappointing year with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game, but a photo posted by none other than Mr. Met the mascot got New York fans back in their feelings.

The photo was as innocuous as they come, as Mr. Met — in a clearly altered photo — posed with a few members of the Oppenheimer cast (and John Krasinski) ahead of that film’s premiere next week.

However, MLB fans quickly took to the image to make jokes about the Mets being nuclearly bad.

If you are a Mets fan, this post will be as radioactive as they come. If you are not a Mets fan, brace yourself for some absolutely atomic laughter.

Mr. Met might want to find the Barbie cast next for a photo to make up for the responses to this unfortunately hilarious meet-and-greet.

Barbenheimer, explained: Why Barbie and Oppenheimer have been combined for 1 wild crossover

Barbenheimer fever is sweeping the nation.

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Are you confused as to what this whole Barbenheimer thing is involving Barbie and Oppenheimer? We’re here to help.

That’s right: This is a BIG THING right now, as Barbie — directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie — and Oppenheimer (the Christopher Nolan vehicle starring Cillian Murphy that’s all about the development of nuclear weapons) will open on the same day, July 21.

That’s led to people — including the movie’s stars — to buy tickets to see the movies on the same day. But it’s also blossomed into a pop culture crossover phenomenon sweeping the nation.

Let’s dive in:

Barbie’s Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig delightfully recreated Tom Cruise’s summer movie ticket photos

Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig are keeping Tom Cruise’s good movie theater vibes going.

Barbie star Margot Robbie and filmmaker Greta Gerwig are keeping the movie-loving goodwill alive that Tom Cruise started earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Cruise posted a series of photos with his Mission: Impossible –  Dead Reckoning Part One collaborator Christopher McQuarrie showing support for other films coming out this summer.

In the pictures, Cruise and McQuarrie posed with posters and tickets for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Barbie and Oppenheimer to show solidarity for the theatrical experience.

Well, Gerwig and Robbie delightfully decided to return the favor by recreating those pictures in front of posters for Oppenheimer, Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible.

Well, isn’t this just the coolest thing?

While these films are competing against each other at the box office, they’re all united in helping support the theatrical experience, one that faced an uncertain future during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’ll take the entire industry to keep movie theaters strong, and one film’s success is a success for every film these days.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny filmmaker James Mangold also supported Cruise’s post by saying he’ll be showing up for all the other films that have been mentioned.

All that’s left now is for Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan and star Cillian Murphy to do their own recreation of Cruise’s now-viral set of photos.

Everyone loved Tom Cruise’s viral tweet of him supporting other movies coming out this summer

Tom Cruise really does just love the movies.

Tom Cruise loves movies, and every single day he posts on social media is another reminder of that indisputable fact.

After dominating the box office and earning awards love for his 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the actor is back this summer with his latest Mission: Impossible film opening next month.

Even though he’s got a big movie of his own ready to hit theaters in a couple of weeks, the actor couldn’t help but throw his support behind three other big movies this summer: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Oppenheimer and Barbie.

Cruise and his Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 director Christopher McQuarrie posed in a now-viral series of photos with movie tickets and posters for those three aforementioned movies.

The actor’s Twitter account shared a heartening message for all three of those films, saying that “this summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters.”

As you can imagine, everyone continues to love Cruise’s unabashed love of movies. The positive vibes flowed through for the actor’s supportive message about just loving the movies and the theatrical experience.

Oppenheimer still set for battle with Barbie despite delay rumors

Don’t worry, folks. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is still set for release on July 21.

A now-deleted viral tweet had film fans in their feelings on Friday as word started to spread that the Christopher Nolan epic Oppenheimer had been delayed.

However, the film is still right on track for its summer release at the moment.

Nolan’s latest drama focused on atomic bomb pioneer J. Robert Oppenheimer has been scheduled to go up against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie on July 21, but social media buzz started swirling that Oppenheimer had been moved to later in the year.

The news linked back to a Variety interview with Cannes programmer Thierry Fremaux where he said that the Nolan film wasn’t playing the French film festival because it was being “released at the end of the year as part of [Universal Pictures’] awards strategy.”

Well, Fremaux most likely misspoke, as Universal has not officially delayed Oppenheimer. The film is still scheduled to be released on July 21.

AP film writer Lindsey Bahr confirmed that Nolan’s latest is still planning for its summer release.

The Wrap also heard from a source close to the film that Oppenheimer will stick with its July 21 release date.

There would be plenty of obstacles surrounding an Oppenheimer delay, as Nolan’s desire to get the film on as many IMAX screens as possible has likely required lots of preparation with the July 21 date in mind.

Also, it’s not as common for a studio to delay a major summer film this close to its release. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely.

If Oppenheimer were actually to move, it’s more than likely Universal would shift to a Thanksgiving window, as it would give the studio the best chance at plentiful IMAX screenings. However, awards releases happen year-round, and delaying Oppenheimer wouldn’t necessarily boost the film’s Oscar chances.

As of now, movie fans should still plan for Oppenheimer‘s release this summer. Nolan’s films have always centered on time, and it’s highly unlikely he’d have this one show up late on the 2023 film calendar. Unless Universal announces an actual delay, the tweets out there are incorrect.
