247Sports shared what they’d give each of the top 25 teams in the nation for Christmas, so what did they give the Oklahoma Sooners?

The Oklahoma Sooners went into the final week of 2023 with another top-10 recruiting class and are preparing for their Alamo Bowl matchup with the Arizona Wildcats.

Ahead of the bowl, 247Sports shared what it would give each of the top 25 teams in the nation for Christmas. For the Oklahoma Sooners, it was a more favorable 2024 schedule.

The SEC unveiled its 2024 schedule earlier this month, and it did no favors to conference newcomer Oklahoma, which received one of the most difficult draws in league play. Battles with LSU, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Missouri headline the slate. – Carter Bahns, 247Sports

More: Oklahoma Sooners Full 2024 schedule

The Oklahoma Sooners have five programs on the schedule inside the top 13 of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Texas and Alabama highlight the list as they prepare for the College Football Playoff, but Ole Miss and Missouri have been making moves on the recruiting trail to try to take another step next season. The road trip to LSU at the end of the year will make for an incredibly difficult atmosphere. Throw in Tennessee, which has become one of the better offensive teams under [autotag]Josh Heupel[/autotag]. Oh, and let’s not forget traveling to face Auburn or hosting a South Carolina team with an improving defense. The Sooners have one of the more difficult schedules in the country in 2024.

But that’s to be expected heading into the SEC. The Sooners wouldn’t want it any other way. That was the point of joining the conference. A schedule full of marquee matchups is what the Oklahoma brass was hoping for when they made the move to the SEC.

Breaking: Former Texas A&M sophomore DL Walter Nolen will transfer to Ole Miss

This weekend, Lane Kiffin has persuaded two talented prospects to switch from Texas A&M Maroon & White to Rebels Cardinal Red & Navy Blue.

Throughout December, Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin has persuaded multiple talented prospects to switch from Texas A&M Maroon & White to Rebels Cardinal Red & Navy Blue.

According to a report from 247Sports national college football reporter Matt Zenitz, former Aggies sophomore defensive lineman Walter Nolen has chosen Ole Miss as his next destination via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He officially entered the portal on Dec. 6 after mulling over the decision for about three days.

Per On3 Sports, Nolen visited the Rebels program two weeks ago after visiting Eugene to check out the Oregon Ducks program. Nolen joins 2024 3-star quarterback recruit Anthony Maddox in flipping from Texas A&M to Ole Miss this month.

Nolen tallied 66 tackles (37 solos), five sacks and a forced fumble during two seasons with the Aggies. This year, he increased his production with totals of 37 tackles and four sacks.

Nolen was among the highest-rated players in Texas A&M’s 2022 recruiting class, which ranked No. 1 in the nation. Former Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher racked up eight 5-star signees and 20 more 4-star recruits.

Texas A&M is not scheduled to play the Rebels next season so the Aggies will have to wait until at least 2025 to match up against Nolen and Ole Miss.

2024 4-star LB Tristan Jernigan signs with Texas A&M over Alabama and Ole Miss

Replacing All-American linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will be no easy task but the Aggies found their leading candidate on Friday afternoon.

Replacing All-American linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will be no easy task but Texas A&M may have found its leading candidate in the final hours of Early Signing Day 2023.

4-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan signed with Texas A&M on Friday afternoon, choosing the Aggies program over Alabama and Ole Miss among others.

“I’ll be taking my talents to the University of Texas A&M,” Jernigan announced Friday at a press conference held at Tupelo High School in Mississippi.

Jernigan is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. He had 23 total offers and took four total visits. Jernigan took a trip to Bryan-College Station over the summer on June 9 when former head coach Jimbo Fisher was still at the helm of the program.

Following the coaching change, Jernigan and his family did their due diligence. The Tupelo, Miss. native visited Tuscaloosa on Dec. 8 and Ole Miss one week later. He also took another visit to Kyle Field on Dec. 15, where he met new head coach Mike Elko and other members of his staff.

To say Elko made a positive first impression would be an understatement given Friday’s signing. Other notable universities that Jernigan had offers to include Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Oregon and UTSA.

Report: 2024 3-star QB prospect Anthony Maddox picks Ole Miss hours after decommitting from Texas A&M

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, the Hattiesburg, Miss. native has committed to play collegiate football for head coach Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss.

One day after decommitting from Texas A&M, 2024 3-star quarterback prospect Anthony Maddox has decided to stay home.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, the Hattiesburg, Miss. native has committed to play collegiate football for head coach Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss.

“Man, Ole Miss is a great place,” Maddox told On3 Sports on Saturday. “Coach Lane Kiffin and coach (Charlie) Weis (Jr.) together as an offensive mind is crazy. Seeing the production that Jaxson Dart has put in over two years leads me to think I could do even more once I get there.

“I’m closest with coach Weis and (Pete) Golding. Coach Weis’ plan for me is to play early and contribute, to come out every single day and work my tail off.”

Maddox is 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds from Oak Grove High School. He had 20 total offers and visited the Rebels program last weekend. He originally committed to play at Kyle Field in February before decommitting on Friday.

Maddox told Chad Simmons of On3 Sports that the Aggies’ recent coaching change is what led to his decommitment.

“It was a tough decision. I had a great connection with coach Jimbo Fisher and coach Bobby Petrino, so when they left, it opened me up to other schools,” Maddox explained to On3 Sports on Friday. “I talked to different coaches, I took some visits and I decided to open back up. I saw a great opportunity at Texas A&M under the old staff, but I see better opportunities elsewhere now with the new staff there. The coaching change was a huge factor in my decision.”

Texas A&M is not scheduled to play Ole Miss next season so the Aggies will have to wait until at least 2025 to match up against Maddox and the Rebels.

Class of 2024 3-star quarterback prospect Anthony Maddox decommitted from Texas A&M on Friday according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Class of 2024 3-star quarterback prospect Anthony Maddox has decommitted from Texas A&M.

According to a report from Chad Simmons of On3 Sports, Maddox announced his decision on Friday afternoon. He originally committed to play at Kyle Field back in February.

“It was a tough decision. I had a great connection with coach Jimbo Fisher and coach Bobby Petrino, so when they left, it opened me up to other schools,” Maddox told On3 Sports. “I talked to different coaches, I took some visits and I decided to open back up. I saw a great opportunity at Texas A&M under the old staff, but I see better opportunities elsewhere now with the new staff there. The coaching change was a huge factor in my decision.

“I am looking to make a decision by the end of the weekend and it will come down to the atmosphere, what the program can bring me and how I fit into the offensive scheme. I am looking for an opportunity to get onto the field early too, then have a chance to make explosive plays in the offense.”

Maddox is 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds from Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss. He has 20 total offers, including to both Southeastern Conference schools in his home state, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Per On3 Sports, Maddox visited the Rebels program this past weekend and had a trip planned to College Station that has since been called off. Other frontrunners for the talented quarterback are Louisville and Miami, Simmons said.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 football schedule

A look at the Oklahoma Sooners full schedule for 2024, their first in the SEC.

The SEC unveiled its schedule for the 2024 season, so now we know when the Sooners will play their new conference foes next season.

The schedule was always going to be daunting. You don’t move to the SEC without an understanding that you’re playing the best of the best nearly every week. But there are some positives in the Sooners’ schedule, such as the bye week before the Red River Showdown and another before the closing two-game stretch against Alabama and LSU.

The Sooners start with four consecutive games at home before going on the road to Auburn, Alabama, for their first SEC road game in their new conference.

Here’s a look at the Oklahoma Sooners’ full 2024 football schedule.

Jimbo Fisher plans to play QB Max Johnson vs. Mississippi State despite his recent injury

According to Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, quarterback Max Johnson is injured, but could play vs. Mississippi State

It has now been confirmed that Texas A&M starting quarterback Max Johnson sustained a rib injury after the loss to Ole Miss, as head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed the news on Monday afternoon during the Aggies’ Monday press conference. This is Johnson’s second major injury as a program member after breaking his hand during his second start in 2022. However, Fisher stated that he “plans to play” Johnson vs. Mississippi State this Saturday despite the injury

“Max was able to finish the game, was a couple off tough shots, but we’ll wait and see how it goes. But he should be good. I’m planning on him playing and hopefully we’ll see as it goes day-by-day.”

Johnson had endured more pressure than any Aggie quarterback in quite some time due to the continuous poor play on the offensive line. Even though Saturday’s 38-35 road loss to Ole Miss showed improved play, especially in pass protection, Johnson still took several body blows, while one of the results of the final hit had him writhing in pain during the Aggies final drive.

Stepping in for injured quarterback Conner Weigman during the Aggies’ Week 4 win over Auburn, the Aggie’s O-line continued to decline during SEC play, as Johnson would continue to find through minor injuries week to week, but after sustaining 11 QB hits in the loss to Tennessee, it became borderline painful to watch the veteran southpaw have to prepare week to week for another painful outing.

So far this season, Johnson has accumulated with 1,452, 9 touchdowns, five interceptions, and 62.9 QBR in five starts in nine games. The Aggies will now likely start former Fresno State QB Jaylen Henderson, who is currently listed as Johnson’s backup, while freshman QB Marcel Reed is also in the mix if Johnson isn’t able to go.

Texas A&M will return to Kyle Field to take on Mississippi State on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ESPN2.

Texas A&M DE Shemar Turner issues an apology after his late game ejection in the loss to Ole Miss

After his late game ejection in Texas A&M’s 38-35 loss to Ole Miss, Aggies DE Shemar Turner issued an apology early Sunday.

Amid Texas A&M’s heartbreaking 38-35 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon, junior defensive end Shemar Turner was ejected late in the game after punching Rebels offensive tackle Micah Pettus in the groin late in the fourth quarter, as both teams had been chirping back and forth for most of the matchup.

In one of the more egregious penalties you will likely see all season, Turner immediately knew that he was in the wrong, but in the heat of the game, these things tend to happen, just not in the same vain. Credit to Pettus for having some humor about the incident, stating that he was wearing a cup. However, with how disappointing Texas A&M’s 2023 season has been, Turner’s outstanding and consistent play garners him a mulligan.

Early Sunday morning, Turner issued an apology on Twitter:

I want to apologize for embarrassing myself, my family, and my team! My actions were unacceptable and stupid. I have to understand what teams are gonna try to do to get me out my game I let my emotions get the best of me won’t happen again period… #GigEm

This is what you want to hear from a player who has been the heart and soul of Texas A&M’s defensive line throughout the year, already accumulating 27 tackles and five sacks, which is second on the team behind star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.

Texas A&M will return to Kyle Field to take on Mississippi State on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 pm. CT. The game will air on ESPN2.
