Oklahoma State vs. Texas picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 74, Oklahoma State 71

Moneyline

SKIP.

Texas (-290) is too pricey for me to play, and while the Cowboys (+220) have some value given the chaotic nature of tournament play, the Longhorns were dominant in the 2 regular-season matchups.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

LEAN OKLAHOMA STATE +6.5 (-110).

The Cowboys have played well as of late, covering against Oklahoma and Texas Tech in their last 2. They may not have covered, but lost their 2 games prior to Baylor by 6 and to Kansas State by 5.

Oklahoma State was 9-10 ATS in conference games while Texas was 9-9 ATS. The Cowboys rank 24th in opponents’ field goal percentage (40.3%), so they should be able to use their defense to keep this game close.

The Cowboys have been playing well and should keep the deficit slim. Back OKLAHOMA STATE +6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET OVER 142.5 (-105).

The Cowboys were 15-14 O/U this season while Texas was 16-13 O/U. Despite their defensive nature, the Cowboys were 4-2-1 O/U in their last 7 games.

Texas was 4-4 O/U in its last 8, but did manage to score at least 72 in its last 5 straight games. It ranks 30th in the nation at 78.8 points per game. Both teams also rank within the top 150 in offensive rebounds per game, so expect ample extra opportunities.

Ultimately, take the OVER 142.5 (-105).

Oklahoma State at Texas odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Oklahoma State at Texas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (11-8, 3-4 Big 12) battle the Texas Longhorns (16-3, 5-2) Tuesday. Tip from the Moody Center is set for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Oklahoma State vs. Texas odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys beat the No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones 61-59 Saturday, covering as a 1-point home favorite. Texas is 10-9 against the spread (ATS) this  season and has covered in 2 straight games and in 6 of its last 9 games. The Cowboys’  defense ranks 4th in the nation in opponents’ FG percentage (37.3%).

The Longhorns have weathered the midseason firing of their coach and took down West Virginia 69-61 Saturday, covering as a 1-point road underdog. They are 7-12 ATS on the season and a strong 11-1 straight up at home. Texas has covered just 2 of its last 8 games. The Longhorns’ offense ranks  25th in points per game (80.1).

Oklahoma State beat Texas 56-46 as a 3.5-point home underdog on Jan. 7.

Oklahoma State at Texas picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 70, Oklahoma State 63

Moneyline

AVOID.

Texas is 11-1 at home while Oklahoma State is 2-4 on the road. These odds are justified, but they are also unplayable.

Against the spread

LEAN OKLAHOMA STATE +8.5 (-115).

The Cowboys have been better at covering as of late, beating a top-15 Iowa State at home and downing Oklahoma the game prior. They have covered 6 of their last 9. Despite being solid at home, Texas has failed to cover its last 4 home games, 3 of which were against Big 12 opponents.

Texas is just 5-7 ATS at home this season while Oklahoma State is 3-3 ATS on the road. Oklahoma State has the edge in conference play as well as it is 4-3 ATS compared to Texas’ 2-5 ATS.

Put it all together and back OKLAHOMA STATE +8.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 135.5 (-110).

Oklahoma State has a dominant defense, but has a struggling road attack. It has scored only 58 and 57 points in its last 2 road matches against Baylor and Kansas State. It has gone Under the projected total in 6 of its last 7 games.

Texas is 2-2-1 O/U in its last 5 games, scoring more than 72 in just 2 of its last 5. Texas is 4-2-1 O/U in conference games while Oklahoma State is 1-6 O/U.

Given the Cowboys struggles offensively on the road and strength defensively, back the UNDER 135.5 (-110).

Oklahoma State vs. Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Texas Longhorns odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys (20-7, 11-7 Big 12) meet the No. 16 Texas Longhorns (18-7, 11-6) in the Big 12 Men’s College Basketball Tournament championship Saturday at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Oklahoma State-Texas odds and lines, with NCAA college basketball picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  • Money line: Oklahoma State +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | Texas -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Oklahoma State +2.5 (-110) | Texas -2.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 144.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Oklahoma State vs. Texas: Three things to know

  1. Oklahoma State upset No. 9 West Virginia 72-69 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tourney and No. 2 Baylor 83-74 as an 8.5-point underdog in the semifinals Friday to earn a title game bid. The Cowboys’ victory over Baylor avenged their only loss in the past nine games and they’ve covered all nine of those contests.
  2. Texas advanced to the Big 12 Championship Game due to an “uncontested” victory against Kansas, which had to pull out of the semifinals because of COVID complications on the team. The Longhorns defeated quarterfinal opponent No. 22 Texas Tech in a 67-66 thriller Friday to win and cover their fourth straight game.
  3. These teams split the season series 1-1 but Oklahoma State has covered three straight against Texas.

Oklahoma State vs. Texas: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma State 73, Texas 69

Money line (ML)

Both teams are obviously playing very well entering the title game, but the way OKLAHOMA STATE (+125) closed out its semifinal victory over eventual 1-seed Baylor put college basketball on notice.

The Cowboys are going to be a scary team in the NCAA Tournament because they have the Big 12 Player of the Year and probable No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft in SF Cade Cunningham.

He put up 25 and 19 points in the two Oklahoma State-Texas games this season so it’s not like the Longhorns can say they’ve figured Cunningham out and the gravitational pull his skillset has on opposing defenses is staggering.

Finally, perhaps the most important factor in postseason college hoops is free-throw shooting and this is an area where Oklahoma State has an edge.

The Cowboys have the 52nd-ranked FTA/FG rate and the Longhorns are 295th in defensive FTA/FG rate, according to Ken Pom.

GIMME OKLAHOMA STATE (+125) for a quarter-unit.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Definitely BET OKLAHOMA STATE +2.5 (-110) heavier than or instead of the money line. The Cowboys have covered nine straight games, three straight vs. the Longhorns and five straight as a dog at a neutral site.

Over/Under (O/U)

According to Pregame.com, roughly 75% of the money is on the UNDER 144.5 (-110), but nearly 80% of the bets placed are on the Over, which tells us that the sharp side of the market (the money) is on the Under.

The hoops’ angle for the Under is both teams average more turnovers per game than assists and play a fair amount of iso-ball that may lead to clunky offensive possessions.

It’s more of a lean but I’ll PUT a half-unit on the UNDER 144.5 (-110).
