The Oklahoma City Thunder (52-25) and Charlotte Hornets (19-58) meet Sunday at Spectrum Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Thunder vs. Hornets odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Thunder lead 1-0 after a 126-106 home win on Feb. 2, covering the 15.5-point spread as the Over (224.5) cashed

The Thunder lost their 3rd straight game on Friday night, 126-112 to the Indiana Pacers, who knocked down 15 three-pointers in the victory. OKC failed to cover the spread as a 6.5-point underdog while the Over (234) cashed. The Thunder was paced by G Luguentz Dort‘s 22 points and 18 from F Kenrich Williams off the bench. The Thunder have clinched a playoff spot and currently sit as the 3rd seed in the Western Conference.

Charlotte snapped a 4-game losing streak on Friday night with a 124-115 win over the Orlando Magic. It covered the spread as a 12-point underdog and the Over (207) cashed. F Brandon Miller made his first 10 shots from the field and finished with 32 points. He hit 5-of-6 from long range and added 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block.

Thunder at Hornets picks and predictions

Prediction

Thunder 113, Hornets 106

Moneyline

PASS.

You should avoid betting the Thunder (-360), as the juice is too much. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET HORNETS +8.5 (-110).

Clearly, the Thunder are the superior team, but they haven’t played like it lately. They’ve lost 3 straight and failed to cover in 5 of their last 6 games.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have lost 8 of their last 10 games but they have covered 4 of their last 6. Charlotte has also covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 matchups with the Thunder.

Over/Under

BET OVER 216.5 (-110).

In 3 of their last 4 meetings, the teams have gone Over the total. The Thunder have been Over the total in 6 of their last 7 games, and the Hornets have gone Over in 6 of their last 8 games.

The Thunder are the 4th-highest scoring team in the NBA this season while  Charlotte allows the 10th-most points in the league.

Thunder at Hornets picks and predictions

Prediction

Thunder 119, Hornets 114

Moneyline

Neither of these teams has a clear edge over the other, but I’ll take the THUNDER (-110) to win on the road. While Oklahoma City is 5-11 on the road, Charlotte is 4-11 at home this season.

Against the spread

Considering that I took Oklahoma City to secure the win, THUNDER -1.5 (-102) is where I’m leaning in this game. Oklahoma City has been 1 of the better teams at covering the spread with a 21-13 record ATS this season.

The Hornets are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing road record. Meanwhile, the Thunder are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road meetings with the Hornets.

Over/Under

UNDER 239.5 (-115) is an enticing bet as the total seems a bit too high. While these 2 teams are top 10 in pace, they are both bottom 8 teams in offensive rating.

The Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between the Thunder and the Hornets when the game is in Charlotte. Also, the Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings overall.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Charlotte Hornets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Oklahoma City Thunder at Charlotte Hornets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (14-30) travel to Spectrum Center Friday to take on the Charlotte Hornets (25-20). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Thunder vs. Hornets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Thunder come into this game after failing to cover as 7-point underdogs in a 118-96 loss at the San Antonio Spurs. However, they are 7-2-1 against the spread (ATS) over their last 10 games.

Led by star G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder are just 6-16 on the road and are 14th in the Western Conference.

Charlotte is 7th in the Eastern Conference and is 12-6 at home, much better than their sub-.500 road record. The Hornets have covered six of their last seven games, only failing to cover as 11.5-point home favorites against the Orlando Magic last Friday along that span.

Thunder at Hornets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hornets 114, Thunder 101

Money line

PASS on the money line.

The Hornets are the most talented team across the board, and they’ve been playing high-level basketball. Similarly, the Thunder struggle away from home. Regardless, betting over five times your potential return on the Hornets to win is not a good bet.

Against the spread

BET on the HORNETS -8.5 (-122).

The key difference in this game will be F Miles Bridges. While both teams have star-studded backcourts, Bridges should have both a size advantage and skill advantage over either Josh Giddey or Lu Dort, whoever is tasked with guarding him.

The Hornets average the second-most points in the paint per game. The Thunder have the worst offensive rating in the league and while they do defend competently they’ll struggle to keep up with Charlotte’s pace and scoring.

The Thunder are also the worst shooting team in the league. Playing a high-pace game should bode well for the Hornets against a team as inefficient as Oklahoma City.

Charlotte is also 28-17 ATS this season while Oklahoma City is 28-15-1, so it’ll be a battle between two terrific covering teams. I’ll side with the one not last in the league in offensive efficiency.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 224.5 (-115).

While the Hornets like to get out and run, ranking second in pace, the Thunder are actually among the better teams at defending in transition.

They allow the second fewest fast break points per game and rank in the top half of the league in opponents’ points in the paint as well.

OKC is 3-7 O/U in their last 10 as well.

Thunder at Hornets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hornets 106, Thunder 104

Money line (ML)

The HORNETS (-155) celebrate their home opener after suffering a narrow loss in Cleveland on Wednesday. The Thunder (+125) had their opener in Houston canceled at the last minute as the Rockets didn’t have the necessary eight players required to play. We know OKC will be itching to go, but we’re not sure what we’re going to get from them. Back the home side as a result.

Against the spread (ATS)

The HORNETS -3.5 (-105) cashed in their final five games at home to close out the 2019-20 campaign, and they’re 7-1-1 ATS in the past nine games overall dating back to last season. You’ll be going against the grain here, as far as the head-to-head trends, as OKC is 16-6-1 ATS in the past 23 meetings in this cross-conference series, and 5-1 ATS in the past six trips to Buzz City.

But play the home side, as the Thunder +3.5 (-115) are going to have a much different look with head coach Billy Donovan having moved on, no more Steven Adams, Danilo Gallinari, Chris Paul or Dennis Schroder, with only Al Horford and George Hill as notable additions. It might take some time for this OKC unit to gel.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 217.5 (-105) is the play in this one. The Under is 4-0 in the past four meetings in this series, and 4-1 in the past five meetings in Charlotte, too. While the Hornets opened with an Over result in Cleveland, the Thunder might be a bit rusty, and that’s reason enough to play the Under here.
