Skinner was great in Game 3, stopping 27 of 28 shots. He has a 3.31 GAA and .890 SV% after allowing 9 goals in the 1st 2 games. His metrics aren’t very good thus far as he’s 17th in the playoffs with -2.1 goals saved above expected, according to MoneyPuck.

Talbot has allowed 16 goals in 3 games for a 5.30 GAA and .861 SV%. Again, it’s not all his fault, considering Edmonton scored 7 of those on the power play. If things continue to go south, I’d look for a David Rittich sighting.

The Oilers are on a mission, and they know that they have to score in bunches in order to win. I look for them to keep the pedal to the metal. The ML is a little too juice-laden for me in a road playoff game.

If the Oilers are going to win, they’re probably going to have to score 4+ goals. So let’s SGP OILERS ML + OVER 3.5 OILERS GOALS (+125).

Puck line/Against the spread

There have been a few 1-goal games in this matchup, and I’m good with the less risk, similar reward in the aforementioned SGP.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Over has smashed in 3 straight games after the Under hit in Game 1. I see no reason for it to fizzle out here. I don’t like betting on 7 goals at minus odds.

You could SGP OILERS + OVER 4.5 (+100) to essentially get an Oilers win at even money.

The OILERS (-145) are a solid play for the bounce-back game after getting tripped up in overtime in Game 2.

The Kings (+120) have a solid offense, but they don’t have McDavid. Expect the superstar to carry his Edmonton teammates on his back in a special Game 3 performance, snatching back home-ice advantage in the process.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Oilers -1.5 (+170) are a tempting play on the puck line, but it’s just a little bit too risky. Both games have been high-scoring free-for-alls, and after losing outright as a heavy favorite in Game 2, Edmonton is a risky enough play on the road just to win straight up.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+100) is a strong play, especially at even money. We’ve seen a total of 20 combined goals in the first 2 games of the series, or 10.0 goals per game.

Even if we have much, much better defense in Game 3 with the shift of the series to Southern California, does that mean suddenly that the defenses are going to show up? That’s asking a lot, as it shouldn’t take much to get to at least 7 total goals in Game 3, and it could be in the bag by the end of 2 periods with the way these snipers are scoring.

The KINGS (+145) are worth playing on home ice, as they look to force a decisive Game 7.

L.A. has had 3 full days of rest since its Game 5 setback, and that is usually good news. The Kings are a perfect 4-0 in the past 4 games after returning from 3 days of rest. L.A. is also 13-5 in the past 18 games at home.

Puck line/Against the spread

The KINGS +1.5 (-165) are not priced out of line if you want a little insurance and don’t trust the home team straight up.

The Oilers -1.5 (+140) are an impressive 7-3 in their past 10 skates at Crypto.com Arena, while going 5-2 in the past 7 meetings overall.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-135) is worth playing lightly in Game 6, although it’s a little on the expensive side for my liking.

The Over is 24-10 in the past 34 games on the road for the Oilers, including Game 4 in L.A. The Over is also 10-2-1 in the previous 13 games for the Kings against teams with a winning percentage over .600, while cashing at a 4-0 clip in the past 4 games following a loss of 3 or more goals.

Korpisalo has been the best player in this series. And that’s not easy to say with 2 of the best players in the world on the other side. He has a 2.53 GAA and .931 SV% in 3 games. He has stopped 108 of the 116 shots he has seen. The only question is can he keep it up?

The Kings are getting a lot of little breaks, and they have spent a ton of energy keeping Edmonton off the scoreboard.

Two of the 3 games have been decided by a single goal in the series thus far. I think the same holds true in this game. I’m just not keen on paying -185 for the Kings to keep it within 1 goal.

There have only been 2 multiple-goal games in the last 10 between these teams. And it’s very possible the Oilers sink an empty-netter to cash a -1.5. But I just don’t feel it here.

I will take LEON DRAISAITL ANYTIME GOAL (+110). He has goals in 3 straight games and 3 in the 2 games of this series.

Over/Under

It’s always risky taking Unders when the Oilers are involved. However, the Kings have kept them at bay. Game 2’s 4 goals were the most Edmonton scored on LA this season and in the last 7 games. The Under is 6-2 in the last 8 games between the teams.

The Edmonton Oilers (1-1) travel stateside to face the Los Angeles Kings (1-1) in Game 3 of their 1st-round Western Conference playoff series Friday. The Kings stole a win in Game 1 and must have celebrated a little too long because they got rolled 6-0 in Game 2. In the loss, the Kings made a back-breaking turnover right in front of their net early in the third period, and Oilers LW Evander Kane, who finished with 2 goals, banged it home for a 4-0 lead. The Kings are 0-for-8 on the power play in the series.

The glaring thing about Game 2 was, while the Oilers won 6-0, stud C Connor McDavid (2 assists) and C Leon Draisaitl (1 goal) only lit the lamp once between the two of them. Edmonton is buzzing – especially on the PP as it is 4-for-8 with the man advantage. G Mike Smith had a moment of redemption with a 30-save shutout in Game 2 after yielding 4 goals in the opener.

Weird stat of the day: Quick was actually better on the road than at home this year. He was 12-10-4 with a 2.62 GAA at home and 11-3-5 with a 2.56 GAA on the road.

We’re picking the Oilers here, and there’s really no concern about the Kings being on home ice. The Oilers have won the last 3 games at the newly named Crypto.com Arena, and they have scored 12 goals in the process.

As mentioned, they really haven’t had a home-ice advantage in net. It’s possible that people bite on the +115 value the Kings provide at home, which would sweeten Edmonton’s price. The public likes the Oilers as 71% of the tickets are on them on the road, according to Pregame.com. So, watch the line this afternoon and pick OILERS (-140).

Against the spread

The puck line is really tempting at OILERS -1.5 (+170). Two of the last 3 times these teams played in L.A., Edmonton won by 2 or more goals.

I’m torn here, but let’s LEAN OILERS -1.5 (+170).

They were 21-15-5 on the road this season, while the Kings were 21-16-4 at home. So, no real advantage there, and Edmonton could be up 2-0 in the series if not for a turnover that happens maybe once a season.

Over/Under

This is a tough one as the Over hit in Game 1, and Under hit in Game 2 despite one team scoring 6 times. The Under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 playoff games the Kings were home underdogs. The Under is also 4-0-1 in the last 5 home games for L.A.
