Scheduled B-2 stealth bomber Rose Bowl flyover has very cool Ohio State connection

This is a very cool connection between Ohio State and one of the pilots in the B-2 stealth bomber performing the Rose Bowl flyover. #GoBucks #RoseBowl

The Ohio State fan base may not be showing its usual support with travel to the Rose Bowl like normal because of several mitigating factors (pandemic and disappointment to name two), but what the Buckeyes lack in the stands, they can look up in the air just before game time and be proud.

That’s because there is a unique Ohio State connection to the planned B-2 stealth flyover that will occur just prior to the Rose Bowl kicking off on Saturday. And by unique, we mean a relative of the late Howard “Hopalong” Cassady will be piloting the iconic bomber based out of Whiteman Airforce Base in Missouri that will send the crowd into a frenzy when it soars above the pristine turf of the venerable Rose Bowl Stadium.

The grandson of the 1955 Heisman winner, U.S. Air Force Capt. Kyle Cassady, will be one of the pilots that will provide a very cool experience and photo/video opportunity for many fans and media members on Saturday afternoon in Pasadena.

The younger Cassady attended Upper Arlington High School just north of Columbus and played football and lacrosse for the Golden Bears before graduating from the Air Force Academy.

And surprisingly, it won’t be the first time Cassady has had the opportunity to do an Ohio State football game flyover. He also got to pilot the B-2 stealth flyover before the Buckeyes hosted Nebraska in the ‘Shoe on November 3, 2018.

Here’s a little segment on his first flyover thanks to Columbus ABC sportscaster Clay Hall.

So look up when the B-2 bomber graces its presence over the Rose Bowl and throw up an O-H to Cassady. Pretty cool.

Five keys to Ohio State beating Utah in the Rose Bowl Saturday

We give you five keys to Ohio State ending the Pasadena night in a good mood Saturday night. #GoBucks #RoseBowl

Tick, tick goes the clock. We’re less than two days away from the 2022 Rose Bowl, the 108th edition of “The Granddaddy of them all.” And — cross your fingers — the game is still on, thus far dodging COVID-19 omicron variant cancellations. As is the parade by the way, so that’s all positive news.

But back to on the field, Ohio State is faced with a challenge I’m not sure most folks fully grasp. In fact, we already gave you three reasons why Utah could be a problem for the Buckeyes. If OSU wins, it will have to earn it against a team playing its best American football right now.

But clearly, Ohio State is talented enough to win the game. In fact, the talent on the Buckeyes’ roster will trump almost every other roster out there. Talent, and playing a well-executed game with that talent don’t always end in a perfect marriage, however. Yes, we’ve seen that on a few occasions this season.

At this point, the game plan is installed for this one, and now it’s all about fine-tuning things and hoping the players operate at peak capacity when the bright lights come on.

But what does Ohio State have to do to win this one and become the Big Ten program with the most Rose Bowl wins? We know you are wondering that very same thing, so we’re here to give you five keys to beating Utah as the sun goes down against the eye candy that is the San Gabriel Mountains Saturday night.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

LOOK. Rose Bowl field design unveiled

Want to see what the design of the turf in Rose Bowl Stadium will look like? Check it out! #GoBucks

Preparations continue for the Rose Bowl game scheduled for 5 p.m EST on Saturday between Ohio State and Utah. Less than 48 hours out, we’ve got the field design inside the venerable Rose Bowl stadium that we can share with you.

It comes courtesy of the Utah Athletics Twitter account as shot from above. One thing we know is that there will be a lot of red in the stadium both with fans of each team and on the design of the end zones as pictured.

The customary Rose Bowl logo still adorns midfield with the sponsor Capital One Venture X logo underneath, but there are also two logos on the 25-yard line for each side of the field to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Rose Bowl Stadium.

The midfield sidelines are a thin white that gives way to a thicker gray for Ohio State, and black for Utah. Those carry around each end zones and well … it looks fantastic.

As usual, the grass is pristine and if you’ve never had a chance to feel it or step foot on that palate, let me tell you, it looks and feels amazing. Hopefully, Ohio State’s play on the field is just as brilliant and picturesque.

Betting lines starting to make Utah less of an underdog in Rose Bowl matchup with Ohio State

The odds are starting to move more in Utah’s favor. #RoseBowl

When the original betting odds came out for the Rose Bowl featuring Ohio State and Utah, the Buckeyes were about a touchdown favorite when you looked across most of the sportsbooks.

That was before four key contributors for OSU opted out of playing in the Rose Bowl. Now that we have that news, and people have gotten a better look at Utah, the line is moving closer to the Utes favor — at least according to the Tipico online sportsbook. Tipico had Ohio State as a 6.5 point favorite when things first circulated, but now that’s down to just a 4.5 advantage a couple of days out from the game Saturday.

All Betting Lines are Courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook

This is just how things work in the land of big betting. When you start to see things line up differently, whether it be injuries, or in this case some key players out, it’ll almost always change the line in favor of the team that isn’t affected by player unavailability.

We’ll keep an eye on whether the line continues to trend further towards Utah or not as we get even closer.

Three reasons Utah could give Ohio State some problems in the Rose Bowl

We give you three reasons why Utah could pose some big problems for Ohio State in the Rose Bowl Saturday.

Are you getting excited yet? My sense is that Ohio State really wants to finish the season well and show everyone the last game of the year was not what this team was about. But to do it in the 108th edition of the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes will have to fight through some disappointment and player opt-outs, but most importantly, one whale of a team in the Utah Utes.

Don’t kid yourselves. Utah deserves to be in usually sunny (but damp and gray so far this week) Pasadena. The Utes have gotten better as the season has gone on and did so by turning into a physical bunch that likes to get after things at the point of attack.

Just ask Oregon, a team Utah beat twice, that made life difficult on Ohio State earlier in the year.

The Buckeyes are clearly the more explosive team on offense, at least from a potential standpoint, but will have to play up to that seemingly limitless ceiling (even with Olave and Wilson not playing), to maximize possessions and get Utah backed in a corner game-plan wise.

Still, it’s going to be a donnybrook and OSU will have its hands full with Utah on Saturday. Here are three reasons why the Utes could pose some issues for the Buckeyes on New Year’s Day.

How to watch, stream, and listen to Ohio State vs. Utah in the Rose Bowl

Everything you need to know to listen and watch the 108th Rose Bowl Game. #GoBucks

We get it… the season didn’t go exactly how we envisioned it in our heads. Two disappointing losses and no trip to the College Football Playoff. But let’s not fret too much. The Rose Bowl is a pretty nice consolation prize.

This game is going to be an uphill battle for Ohio State after finding out that four starters decided to opt-out and focus on the upcoming NFL draft. There’s also the fact that Buckeye fans uncharacteristically did not scoop up their portion of tickets for the game. The crowd is expected to be in favor of Utah, which is playing in its first-ever Rose Bowl game.

Regardless of fact that OSU will not be competing for a national championship, this is a big game for the Buckeyes. Not necessarily for this year, but to launch into 2022. We’ll get a glimpse of some of the younger talent as well as an opportunity to wash out the bad taste of a defeat at the hands of the Wolverines.

So let’s get ready to watch the “Granddaddy of Them All” and cheer the Bucks on to victory.

NEXT … How to watch, stream, listen to Ohio State Thursday

WATCH: Mark May, Lou Holtz pick winner of Ohio State/Utah Rose Bowl

Check out who Mark May and Lou Holtz picked to win the Rose Bowl on Saturday #GoBucks

We’re now just two short days away from watching Ohio State and Utah in the “Granddaddy of them all,” the Rose Bowl on New Year’s day.

The game would seem like two teams going in opposite directions. Ohio State is no doubt disappointed in losing to Michigan and not making the College Football Playoff, while the Utes are smitten and motivated by representing the Pac-12 and playing in their first-ever Rose Bowl.

Still, there is a game to be played, and a proud program like Ohio State has to lay it all on the line or risk losing three games in a college football season for the first time since 2011 when the team finished 6-7 with a loss to the Florida Gators in the Gator Bowl.

You’re going to see a ton of predictions and previews for this thing as we inch ever so closer, but we like to check in with two of our favorite people that never seem to agree on anything, OSU hater Mark May and Lou Holtz. They have a fun little video podcasty thing called “The Crowd’s Line” going, and both provided their predictions for the game at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Both agreed on who will win this contest.

Check out which team each picked and their reason for doing so.

Ohio State vs. Utah Rose Bowl statistical breakdown: How the Buckeyes and Utes stack up

How do Ohio State and Utah match up statistically as we prepare to watch them both do battle in the Rose Bowl? #GoBucks #RoseBowl

Ohio State and Utah are getting ever so closer to facing off in the Rose Bowl Saturday.

The Buckeyes are still reeling from a loss to Michigan for the first time in nearly a decade and will have to try and find a way to be more physical against a Utes squad that will try to punch them in the mouth.

It’s the first time Utah has played in the Rose Bowl, and the Pac-12 champion is motivated and eager to show the nation it belongs in the conversation among the top teams in the country.

Utah likes to pound the ball, but will throw the ball with play-action and utilize tight ends to create more gaps and mismatches to address. We all know how explosive the Ohio State offense is, but how smooth will the operation be with two of the best receivers in the game sitting out to prepare for the NFL draft?

It’s an intriguing matchup, and to help you prepare for it, we’re looking at how both teams compare to each other statistically.

Six things to know about the Utah Utes

Five things to know about Ohio State’s opponent in the Rose Bowl, the Utah Utes. #GoBucks

After having to sit out Saturday and not having any say in where it will go bowling, Ohio State now has a firm answer on travel plans for the holidays. With Michigan’s win over Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game in combination with Utah’s win over Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship, OSU will head to Pasadena to play the Utes in the Rose Bowl.

For a season that’s been a disappointment — at least with the standards that have been set during the last few years — heading to southern California to play in arguably the most iconic bowl game is at least a consolation prize of sorts.

And Ohio State will need to get its focus right because Utah will be a formidable foe. The Utes didn’t just beat an Oregon team twice the Buckeyes lost to earlier in the year, they did it in a relatively dominant fashion in both instances.

Being that Utah has done most of their work late when most of you are probably in bed, we thought we’d give you five things to know about Utah as the Buckeyes prepare to play the Utes in the “Grandaddy of them all.”
