Ohio State loses battle to Michigan on the court. Three takeaways.

Ohio State battled hard but lost a close contest to No. 3 Michigan on Sunday. Here are three takeaways from what we saw on the court Sunday.

The game lived up to the billing, but Ohio State made a few too many mistakes at the end of the game against Michigan to pull out the victory, losing 92-87.

It was an entertaining, up-and-down offensive display, with both teams trading blows all game long. It’s a shame the Buckeyes lost a game they played so well in, but with it being a forty-minute game, every minute and every second mattered, especially with teams this closely matched.

As we do every contest, we like to take stock in what happened on the court and we’re doing the same here. Here are three takeaways from Ohio State’s loss to Michigan on Sunday.

NEXT … Ohio State did a poor job of closing this one out

Michigan hits shot at end of half to hold slim lead over Ohio State

Ohio State and Michigan are engaged in an epic battle on the basketball court. The Wolverines hold a slight edge at the half.

We’ve got an entertaining game going in Columbus between Ohio State and Michigan. So far, it has been everything as advertised with several lead changes, mini runs, and a fast-paced up and down style of play. It feels like one of those where the last team to have the ball will have a chance to win it.

That’s exactly what happened in the first half in fact. With the score tied, Ohio State let the shot clock get the best of them, then Michigan came back down the floor and got into the lane and hit a layup to head into the locker room up 45-43.

The Buckeyes played a solid first half of play, but the Wolverines’ shooting from 3-point range made all the difference. Over the first 20 minutes, Michigan is shooting 10-of-13 (76.9%) from beyond the arc. OSU leads in turnovers, two-point field-goal percentage, and rebounds, but will have to find a way to neutralize the hot shooting of the Wolverines in the second half.

E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington have been the stars for Ohio State so far. Liddell has 14 points and four rebounds, and Washington has splashed in 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Looks like we may be in for one whale of a second half, so stay tuned.  Hopefully Michigan cools a wee-bit from bombing away deep and the Buckeyes can continue to play at a high level and find a way.

Final thoughts before Ohio State and Michigan on the hardwood

Ohio State and Michigan are about to stage one of the most anticipated matchups in their basketball history. We’ve got some final thoughts.

OK. Here. We. Go.

We usually have this much buildup for a football game between Ohio State and Michigan, but this time, it’s a titanic tussle in hoops, in a basketball arena. This one feels like a bit of a replacement for the football game that got shelved because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and anytime these two play across sports, one always wants to beat the other. Even if it’s on the debate team.

During football season, we always give you some final thoughts before each game, and with this one being such an epic battle, we thought we’d do the same for what’s about to unfold in the Schott.

So off we go. Here are some final thoughts just before Ohio State tries to stick it to Michigan once again.

So yeah, it’s a big one.

LOOK. Ohio State basketball selects its jersey for game against Michigan

The Ohio State basketball team revealed the jersey it will don for the top-five battle against Michigan on Sunday. Let’s go!

The Ohio State basketball team isn’t quite becoming Oregon of the East, but it’s definitely a trendsetter when it comes to basketball uniform combinations this year. All told, the Buckeyes now have six uniforms when you look at throwbacks and the standard home and away jerseys.

With such an ensemble, it’s become a new moment of anticipation to see what kind of drip the team will show up with. It’s often revealed on Twitter, and the uniform OSU will wear against rival Michigan was just revealed.

Being at home, we won’t be seeing the all-black/anthracite. We haven’t seen those in a while. No, instead, the Buckeyes will be going with the all gray Jimmy Jackson era jerseys that have become so popular.

So light it up. Ohio State is putting the gray in scarlet and gray against Michigan. It should look fantastic on national television tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST.

Ohio State basketball vs. Michigan: How to watch and listen to the game Sunday

No. 3 Michigan battles No. 4 Ohio State for first place in the Big Ten.

Here we go! Michigan and Ohio State battling it out for supremacy in the Big Ten. That actually sounds more like something we’d say in the fall, not necessarily in February.

We were robbed of the greatest rivalry in college football in 2020 due to COVID… or so we were told. While the Buckeyes most likely would’ve handled the maize and blue with no problem at all, it never gets old watching OSU put a beat down on TTUN.

But now we hear Michigan is a basketball school and come riding into Columbus as the No. 3 team in the land with only one loss. However, the Buckeyes are pretty good too, entering the contest with a No. 4 ranking and a seven-game winning streak.

This is going to be a battle from opening tip to the final buzzer. And whoever comes out on top will have the inside track to the regular-season Big Ten title and No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

Let’s get it on! Here’s all you need to know to find the game.

In reflection: The last ten Ohio State vs. Michigan basketball games

Ohio State and Michigan are set for what might be the game of the year in the Big Ten. Here’s what has happened over the last ten contests.

If you haven’t heard, there’s a pretty big basketball game taking place between Ohio State and Michigan on Sunday. And while hoops might never approach the level of fervor and anticipation that these two old rivals meeting on the gridiron do, it’s still a monumental matchup. In fact, it’s the first time the two programs have met in hoops with both ranked in the top five of the country.

So yeah, a historic meeting is on tap.

Michigan has been arguably a better program over the last few years than the one on the banks of the Olentangy, but the Buckeyes own the overall advantage over their neighbors to the north 99-72 (including vacated wins on both sides).

But what about the last ten years? The Wolverines became one of the best programs in the conference and made an almost annual run in the NCAA Tournament under John Beilein. Meanwhile, OSU was hitting a bit of a slide at the tail end of the Thad Matta era before Chris Holtmann was hired to revive things.

So, how have things been in the most recent history? Well, we’re glad you asked because we’ve put together a stroll down memory lane for the last two years between these two rivals.

As you’ll see, it’s been pretty even despite Michigan’s recent resurgence.

Ohio State vs. Michigan: This year ‘The Game’ is on the hardwood instead of the gridiron

The annual spectacle between Ohio State and Michigan on the gridiron was canceled this year, but now there’s a second chance in basketball.

The scarlet and gray of Ohio State. The maize and blue of Michigan. You just expect those colors to be on a college football masterpiece late in the fall. It’s become a part of American culture, and it’s a game that every Ohio State fan circles on the calendar, and it’s a life event players that are lucky enough to participate in will remember forever. It drives them in offseason workouts and conditioning. It is a right and a privilege to play in The Game when you come to Columbus or Ann Arbor.

However, maybe we took it for granted this year because the unthinkable happened, and a game you thought was too big to fail did exactly that and was wiped off the schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time since 1917, the Buckeyes and Wolverines left an annual pallet void of color. There was a little build-up and hope, but at the end of the day, the pandemic claimed yet another tradition and way of life. OSU would go on to the College Football Playoff and treat Clemson like Michigan for a year, but it wasn’t the same. Maybe close, but not quite. Right, Dabo?

But now it feels like we have something here. Ohio State and Michigan are set to face off this Sunday, but this time on the basketball court. Both teams are ranked inside the top five, both with a shot at winning a Big Ten conference crown.

Sound familiar? At least from a historical perspective?

It does have a little familiar feeling to it aside from things taking place in a Horseshoe or Big House under gray skies on a Saturday. This time it’s going to unfold in the Schottenstein center, but the same colors will be painting a Picasso of a different variety.

Do you feel it?

Look, we’re not trying to say that these two old rivals playing hoops is the same as what the two mean to each other on the football field. But in a year where we were all disappointed in missing out on an annual birthright in the Midwest, doesn’t it feel like fate threw us a little bone here? Both teams have outpaced expectations and are meeting this late in the season, both with a top-five ranking and No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament on the line.

I know, I know it’s basketball and Ohio State is a so-called football school. But if you haven’t gotten caught up in what this Buckeye squad is doing, it’s time to get on the train.

We know Chris Holtmann gets it. He met with the media on Friday and touched on what the rivalry means, especially in this season of the pandemic.

“I recognize being here my fourth year, what this rivalry — and it really is a rivalry across every sport here — but I recognize what it is and what it means,” Holtmann said. “We understand what ‘The Game’ in football is. And I recognize what the importance of that is to our fanbase. It’s important to our players. And I think the best way to honor a rivalry is to respect it for what it is and to try and bring your best competitive stuff to it.”

So look. If you haven’t been paying attention to what this Ohio State basketball team is doing, or you haven’t quite noticed how good Michigan has been this season, it’s time to perk your head up a little. Go find a warm and comfortable spot to watch this thing, and enjoy a version of The Game we definitely didn’t see coming about a year ago.

Cross those Ms out again, go blare some TBDBITL music, rewatch old OSU vs Michigan basketball games, and let this one sink in. Because Sunday isn’t Saturday, but it is two old rivals making good on a game that was shelved in the fall.
