Ohio State football recruiting target sets announcement date

Ohio State football recruit sets announcement date #GoBucks

Ohio State football is coming off a devastating loss to the Oregon Ducks last week, but that isn’t stopping it from making waves on the recruiting trail. The Buckeyes are still attempting to put together an elite 2025 recruiting class and one four-star recruit has the talent to make help make that happen.

Mikkel Skinner is a four-star tight end from the state of South Carolina, and he has set his announcement date for Tuesday, October 22, at 5:00 p.m. ET on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Skinner has narrowed his list down to five schools, which include Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, USF, and of course, OSU.

The four-star talent was committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats in June, but decommitted last month. Standing at 6-foot, 3-inches and 220 pounds with a Big Ten frame, its easy to see why so many top level schools are interested in the receiver. He is a consensus top 15 tight end in the class and has the potential to make an impact early in his college career.

Ohio State football back in the hunt for prized recruit

Ohio State football back in the hunt for recruit #GoBucks

Ohio State football is back in the hunt for one of the prized recruits in the class of 2026. Jared Curtis is a four-star prospect from the state of Tennessee and has recently announced his decommitment from the Georgia Bulldogs. The consensus top ten player in the country is currently a junior at Nashville Christian School and threw for 2,522 yards ad 25 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.

Curtis announced his commitment to Georgia in March, but his decommitment opens the door for other schools that were originally in the hunt for his services such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Buckeyes. Standing at 6-foot, 4-inches and 225 pounds, it is easy to see why most coaches view him as a prototypical quarterback.

The Mr. Football runner-up is only helping his recruiting ranking as his team is currently sitting at a 6-1 record. OSU has Tavien St. Clair committed for the 2025 class, but adding a gunslinger in the 2026 class is still a priority.

Ohio State football offers four-star recruit

Ohio State football offers four-star recruit #GoBucks

Ohio State football is continuing to make waves in recruiting this week despite the recent loss to the Oregon Ducks. The Buckeyes have recently extended an offer to Trashawn Ruffin, a four-star defensive lineman from the state of North Carolina.

Ruffin is widely regarded as a top 50 defensive lineman in the class of 2026 and has made a name for himself on both sides of the football at North Duplin High School, which is located in Mount Olive, North Carolina. It will be interesting to continue to monitor his rise up the recruiting rankings as he is extremely raw, but has displayed elite potential and size at 6-foot, 3-inches and 307 pounds.

The North Carolina product has an extensive list of offers that include, the home state, North Carolina State Wolfpack as well as the Georgia Bulldogs. He took a visit to North Carolina State last weekend and witnessed the Wolfpack lose to the Syracuse Orange.

Ohio State football offers running back scholarship

Ohio State football offers running back scholarship #GoBucks

Ohio State football is currently on a war path in regard to the recruiting trail and while the majority of the focus is on the class of 2025, the coaching staff is always thinking ahead. It looks like Carlos Locklyn has pulled the trigger on another offer to a star running back in the class of 2027.

Jakoby Dixon is not yet rated by most major recruiting services like 247Sports, but the star from Brenham, Texas, will be ranked high when his time comes. The sophomore had a jaw-dropping statistical output a few weeks ago, scoring seven rushing touchdowns and even earned a score through the air. Rushing for 291 yards and averaging a smooth seven yards per carry will make headlines and apparently the Buckeye coaching staff saw them.

Dixon is a unique prospect as he only stands at 5-foot, 9-inches and 183 pounds, but he runs with serious power. He will no doubt be much larger before he lands on a college campus.

Ohio State football makes top 12 for linebacker

Ohio State football makes top 12 for linebacker #GoBucks

Ohio State football is making strides with its 2026 recruiting class and have made the final 12 of one highly sought after recruit. Anthony Davis is a four-star linebacker from the state of Georgia and has cut his list down to a dozen including the Buckeyes as well as a few other Big Ten powers like Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and USC.

He announced his narrowed down list on X earlier in the week and although most expect him to stay closer to home, Ohio State is hoping to make a push for the star linebacker. All of the hype surrounding the Buckeye 2026 class is really focused on wide receiver, Chris Henry Jr., and rightfully so, but the class will be more than just one guy and Davis would be a great addition.

What one thing an Ohio State football recruit loves about the receiver room

Receiver commitments love the OSU receiver room. #GoBucks

Ohio State football has consistently been able to recruit the best receivers in the country. It was able to get the No. 2 receiver in the Class of 2019, Garrett Wilson, and the No. 1 and No. 2 receiver in the Class of 2020, Julian Fleming and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

It goes farther back than then as well with the likes of Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. However, over the last half a decade, the Buckeyes have dominated recruiting receivers, partly because of Brian Hartline, their former NFL receiver turned receivers coach. He is also the co-offensive coordinator.

More recently, Ohio State snagged the No. 1 player in the Class of 2024, a generational talent in receiver Jeremiah Smith. The freshman phenom had two touchdowns in the team’s season-opening win over Akron.

Donovan Murph, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2026, who the Buckeyes have offered a spot to, was at the game. He noticed a difference in the Ohio State receiver room, something that differentiates the program.

https://twitter.com/ChadSimmons_/status/1830615407616794831

“I’m glad I went. What stood out to me a lot was the receiver room and how efficient it was, it’s not just one person,” Murph told Eleven Warriors. “That’s one thing I really look for, a competitive room. I don’t want to play just because I was good in high school, I want to work for everything I get. I see that type of mentality at Ohio State. I love the transparency with coach Hartline, I can appreciate that, he’s a straight up coach and will tell it like it is. That’s something I look for.”

Murph has numerous Division 1 offers which include Auburn, Clemson, Alabama, Penn State, and numerous others. The Buckeyes are a top-three program for Murph after his visit.

From Columbia, South Carolina, Murph is the 19th-best receiver in the Class of 2026 according to 247Sports. From the sound of it, he’s ready to compete at Ohio State and loves the stardom the program has.

Hartline and company have built a program that players want to be in, and one where iron sharpens iron. That’s seen by recruits and continues to make Ohio State a favorable spot for the nation’s best.

Ohio State football cracks top-4 finalists for second-best class of 2027 QB

We’ll keep an eye on this one. #GoBucks

Ohio State football has looked towards the transfer portal for its last two starters at quarterback, but it might be looking to change its luck in recruiting and retaining at the position.

Brady Edmunds, the second-best quarterback in the class of 2027, could change that perception. Edmunds has narrowed his finalists down to four programs to Cleveland.com’s Andrew Gillis.

The final four are Penn State, Michigan, Texas, and the Buckeyes, so there’s a good chance that Edmunds will be competing in the Big Ten later this decade.

Edmunds is ranked by 247Sports as the 14th-best player from the class of 2027. He’s from Huntington Beach, California, and he is playing his high school ball at Huntington Beach as well.

Edmunds is ranked as the third-best player from the state in the class. The Buckeyes haven’t received any commits from that class and only have one commit, Chris Henry Jr., from the Class of 2026.

Ohio State does have the second-best player in the nation and at quarterback in Tavien St. Clair joining the program in the Class of 2025, so adding a talent like Edmunds two years later could be perfect timing.

Chip Kelly is currently the one recruiting Edmunds, who has yet to take an official visit to Ohio State. He does already have an offer from the Buckeyes, among 20-plus other programs interested in adding the talented quarterback.

Ohio State basketball secures commitment from forward with offers from Xavier, Indiana

One in the fold for 2026! #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team secured a commitment from Class of 2026 forward Alex Smith Monday. Smith is playing his high school ball at Upper Arlington in Columbus but doesn’t have a star ranking per 247Sports.

However, Smith did have offers from in-state teams like Kent State and Cincinnati along with Xavier, Nebraska, Bryant, and Indiana, so a plethora of Division 1 programs were in the hunt for him. Smith released his official commitment on X Monday afternoon.

Smith joins Marcus Johnson as the two Class of 2026 commits set to play in Columbus. Johnson is a four-star point guard from Cleveland Ohio, the second-best player in the state of Ohio. Western Reserve Academy’s Anthony Thompson is the best player from the state in the class and is still undecided.

The Buckeyes have signed Dorian Jones, though. He is the state’s top commit in the Class of 2025, so the Buckeyes have been doing a relatively good job at keeping the in-state talent local.

Smith is a name to keep in mind as Ohio State looks to build out its recruiting talent well into the future. Behind Jake Diebler, the Buckeyes had a strong 2023-24 season, finishing 22-14 and 9-11 in Big Ten play.

Ohio State football gets commit from highly-coveted 4-star receiver

Ohio State football has received a commit from Phillip Bell III, a four-star recruit from Mission Viejo, California.

The Ohio State football program is known as one of the best in the country comes to recruiting and developing wide receiver. Players like Marvin Harrison Jr., Garrett Wilson, and Michael Thomas have come through Columbus.

That’s like a huge part of why Phillip Bell III wanted to join Ohio State. Bell, a four-star recruit, has committed to the Buckeyes. Ohio State staved off competition like USC, a program much closer to where Bell grew up.

“Buckeye type,” he said when talking with On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Bell was ranked as the 30th-best receiver in the Class of 2025 and the 22nd-best player from the state of California.

https://twitter.com/Hayesfawcett3/status/1830072778290045142

247Sports lead expert Steve Lorenz had it pegged as a 100% prediction that he would end up at USC; however, Brian Hartline and his staff have done it again.

Bell had offers from Washington, Penn State, Georgia, and USC as well as Ohio State.

“Bell has been one of the state’s top wide outs since his freshman year. Transferred in to Mission Viejo for his junior season and although the production wasn’t the same, the talent is still easy to see. Has looked very good at multiple off-season events this Spring and was a Top Performer for us at the SoCal Under Armour Next Camp in March and the Elite 11/All-22 event in Las Vegas in May. Has an athletic 6-2, 195 pound frame with plenty of length, excellent ball skills and high level body control,” Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports wrote.

Bell took official visits to Washington, Penn State, Ohio State and USC on sequential Fridays starting in late May.

Ohio State doesn’t have any of the six 5-star receivers for the Class of 2025 locked in with five of those six having already committed. It does have the 12th-best receiver, Quincy Porter, committed though.

BOOM! Ohio State football snags four-star lineman

In case you missed it, Ohio State snags four-star lineman over the weekend. #GoBucks

Recent recruiting news has not been favorable towards Ryan Day and Justin Frye, but just like Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber, they have totally redeemed themselves. Ohio State earned the commitment of Jayvon McFadden. The four-star interior offensive line prospect is a four-star recruit in the class of 2025 from the state of Maryland.

Most expected this commitment to come considering Ohio State was the only official visit McFadden took over the summer. The Buckeyes originally offered the four-star recruit a scholarship during his November visit when he came for the Michigan State contest.

The interior offensive lineman was highly sought after and chose Ohio State over national powers like Colorado and Florida. He is now the 25th commit in the class of 2025 and the third offensive lineman, joining four-star Ohio native, Carter Lowe, and three-star Ohio native, Jake Cook.
