Ohio State offensive lineman misses practice

Ohio State offensive lineman misses practice #GoBucks

Ohio State football kicked off its first day of camp on Thursday and most of the focus was on the quarterback battle between Devin Brown and incoming Kansas State transfer, Will Howard. A bit more focus was spent on the receivers and star freshman, Jeremiah Smith, but what should be making more news is the absence of a returning starter on the offensive line.

Carson Hinzman missed the first day of camp due to an “illness” according to head coach, Ryan Day. Hinzman is not expected to be the starter this season due to the arrival of incoming Alabama transfer, Seth McLaughlin, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a role or won’t even start at another spot.

Although I am confident the Buckeyes will be rock solid at offensive line, most pundits view this positional group a mystery and a guy like Hinzman could use every rep.

At this point, most Ohio State football fans are probably sick of hearing about true freshman phenom, Jeremiah Smith, but fans need to buckle up, because the hype train isn’t slowing down. Big things are expected of the five star Florida product and he continued the momentum from his impressive spring over to the summer.

The Buckeyes kicked off their first day of camp on Thursday and Smith made another highlight reel play as he caught a deep pass form Will Howard over sophomore cornerback, Calvin Simpson-Hunt. Despite the ball being out of range for most receivers, Smith displayed the length and athleticism to go up and get the less than ideal throw and then got into the endzone.

Ryan Day had mentioned the young star saying, “he had a great offseason. He did some things that freshmen haven’t done before in terms of recognition.” It feels safe to say Smith will be a major part of this offense.
