Seahawks rookie RB Kenneth Walker III just gets better and better

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III continues to dazzle on the field, proving he is deserving of the starting job.

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III had big shoes to fill this season after taking over the starting position. After earning himself the Offensive Rookie of the Month award, he showed he truly deserved it in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale.

Coach Pete Carroll knows just how special his first-year player really is.

“He’s something now,” Carroll said during his Monday press conference. “He’s showing us stuff every time we go out. He’s got tricks, he’s got creativity. It stems from this marvelous ability he has and capitalizes on it because he’s so tough and he’s so aggressive. He looks like he’s going to pop those runs. He looks like he’s going to get out and now we have seen enough stuff that you think he’s going to sneak out and all of a sudden, he’s going to be gone again.

“I think that anticipation is always really exciting with a great runner, and he’s got that.”

In Arizona, Walker logged 26 carries for 109 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also managed three receptions for 20 yards. It’s hard to ask much more from your rookie running back.

“He just wants more, and it starts there,” Carroll told Mike Salk and Brock Huard during his morning radio show on Seattle Sports. “He’s highly competitive, he’s really physically tough, he’s got a great body and strength and power. You can see him, he pulls out of tackles, he runs through and over and around and all that. His instincts are really good. You can see him just sneak between tackles and hits and things and he looks like he’s gonna pop all the time.”

Watch out, Seahawks rookie RB Kenneth Walker III has ‘big games ahead’

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is anticipating even bigger and better things from rookie RB Kenneth Walker III once he’s really turned loose.

The Seattle Seahawks 2022 draft class is getting a lot of love lately and for very good reasons. One rookie who has really shined in the first half of the season is running back Kenneth Walker III.

“Really, he’s just continuing to validate the things that we saw early on when he got here,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m not talking about the evaluation, I’m talking about since he has been here. He has shown nothing but a real discipline about stuff.

“He’s tough, he cares, he has a lot of pride in the work and the job he’s asked to do.”

In fact, Walker has been so impressive over the last few matchups as a starter that he was just named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month. Through seven games played (including three starts) he’s logged 85 carries for 461 yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Despite Walker’s early success, Carroll thinks there are bigger and better things to come.

“I think he just continues to just show us who he is,” Carroll continued. “He’s very clear, he’s a clear guy, and we know who he is and how he sees things. He’s really just validating with the opportunities. I don’t really feel like we cut him loose yet, I think he has big games ahead. We didn’t run the ball well last week. He made a couple of terrific plays, but I think we are going to see even more than we have seen already, and not just in the run game, but the pass game too.”

Ja’Marr Chase named offensive rookie of the month for September

More accolades for former LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase.

It seems like each day brings a new form of recognition for Cincinnati Bengals and former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

On Wednesday, LSU Wire wrote about Chase being PFF’s highest graded offensive rookie through three games.

Thursday, the NFL announced Chase was awarded offensive rookie of the month after his stellar start to the season.

Chase is tied in second with two NFL veterans – Mike Williams and Adam Thielen – with four touchdowns at the wide receiver position. Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp leads the league with five.

Chase’s four touchdowns is more than all other rookie receivers combined. On the season, Chase has 11 receptions for 220 yards on 16 targets. Chase also has three touchdowns of more than 30 yards in each of his first three NFL games.

The first-round pick struggled with drops during the preseason and his comments about the differences between college and pro footballs made headlines before the season. But once the games started to count, the young receiver has had nothing but success on the receiving end from former college teammate Joe Burrow.

A fellow rookie, a cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers Asante Samuel Jr, was named the defensive rookie of the month.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert named Offensive Rookie of the Month

Justin Herbert became the first quarterback to earn the honors in consecutive months since Sam Bradford in 2010.

Another one.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was named Offensive Rookie of the Month for the second consecutive month. He became the first quarterback to do so in consecutive months since Sam Bradford in 2010.

Despite having a 3-8 record, Los Angeles has still been in nearly every single game because of the strong play by Herbert.

Herbert was 145-of-218 passing for 1,473 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions over the last five weeks.

His eye-popping stats have landed him in the history books, as he is just the second player in NFL history to have thrown for at least 3,000 passing yards in his first 10 starts. The only other player is Patrick Mahomes.

Herbert is on pace to throw for 4,522 yards, which would pass Andrew Luck for the most passing yards in a rookie season (4,374). He is also only five touchdown passes away from passing Baker Mayfield (27) for the most passing touchdowns in a rookie season in league history.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert named Offensive Rookie of the Month

After a historic month, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has earned the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month award for October.

After a historic month, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has earned the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month award for October.

Los Angeles turned to Herbert in Week 2 after Tyrod Taylor suffered a punctured lung, and there was no turning back after he displayed a string of strong performances, eventually being named the permanent starter.

After being handed the keys, Herbert was 67-of-102 passing for 901 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception over the team’s last three games.

Herbert picked up his first professional win last Sunday against the Jaguars. In that matchup, he threw for a season-high 347 yards and 66 rushing yards.

The former Oregon product has shredded defenses with eye-popping throws to all parts of the field and his legs, all while being composed in any given situation.

The first-round pick is currently the slight favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year over Bengals QB Joe Burrow, per Odds Shark.
