LSU offers 2024 4-star offensive lineman from Texas

The Tigers are quickly turning their attention to the 2024 class after early signing day.

[autotag]Casey Poe[/autotag] is a 2024 four-star, 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman from Lindale, Texas, where he plays for Lindale High School. The Eagles finished last season 8-5 with a loss to Kilgore in the third round of The UIL 4A D1 playoffs.

Poe is currently crystal balled to Oklahoma, and the Sooners are a 45% favorite to land him according to On3.

Film Analysis: Poe starts at left tackle for the Eagles. He is a powerful guy with great footwork and hands. He does a good job on run plays and in pass protection. He might slide down to guard at the college level, but he is still a great prospect.

LSU offers 2024 4-star Texas offensive lineman

The Tigers have extended an offer to blue-chip offensive lineman Blake Ivy.

[autotag]Blake Ivy[/autotag] is a 2024 6-foot-4, 275-pound offensive lineman from League City, Texas, where he plays for Clear Springs High School. The Clear Springs Chargers finished the 2022 season 8-4 with a loss to Atascocita in the second round of the playoffs. Currently, there are no crystal ball projections for Ivy and there is no clear favorite per on3.

Film Analysis: Ivy starts at right tackle for the Chargers and in the short film that he has, you can tell he is a physical blocker. He loves to work up to the second level in run blocking and in pass blocking he has great feet allowing him to block really fast edge rushers better.

LSU offers 2025 Georgia interior lineman

The Tigers are getting in early for talented Snellville, Georgia, product Cortez Smith.

[autotag]Cortez Smith[/autotag] is a 2025 offensive lineman from Snellville, Georgia, where he plays for Parkview High School. The Panthers finished the 2022 season with a loss to Westlake in the second round of the playoffs. Parkview finished as the runner-up to nationally ranked Carrollton in their region.

Film Analysis: Smith is a mauler at the offensive line for the Panthers. He is dominant in the run game, creating enormous holes for his running backs to run through. At six-foot-four, 275-pounds, he has excellent size to play interior offensive line on the next level. He still has some time before he commits, though.

Texas players, recruits react to new offensive line NIL deal

“The Pancake Factory” NIL deal is grabbing lots of attention.

Name, Image and Likeness deals have taken over college football since the NCAA made the rule change back in July.

Many players across the country have already made millions of dollars in the short time they have been able to profit up to this point.

Multiple Texas athletes have already taken advantage of NIL by signing endorsement deals, selling merchandise and more. For example, running back Bijan Robinson has a deal with Raising Canes and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was able to get his mother a car through a deal with Covert Hutto.

A new organization named Horns with Heart has set up a deal where each Texas offensive lineman will be paid $50,000 per year called “The Pancake Factory.”

Details of the deal were given in their initial statement:

Starting 8/1/22 all scholarship Offensive Linemen at the University of Texas will receive $50,000 annually ($800,000 combined) for use of their NIL and participating in charitable causes.

Money talks and Texas players and recruits have taken notice of the new NIL deal. See their reactions here:

Texas extends offer to Gunner Givens, No. 2 OT in 2022 recruiting class

Texas remains active on the offensive line recruiting trail and sent an offer to five-star prospect offering Gunner Givens.

Texas continued to be active on the offensive line recruiting trail Monday night as it offered five-star prospect Gunner Givens.

According to 247Sports composite, Givens is listed as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2022 class. The only recruit ranked ahead of him is Zach Rise, who offensive line coach Kyle Flood also offered on Monday.

The Longhorns are getting into Givens’ recruitment late, as the offensive tackle released his top six schools in October. However, there could be some hope since Alabama was listed. The Crimson Tide is still the most attractive program in the country, but with Flood in Austin, he puts Texas in a better position with a few top prospects.

Notre Dame Suffers Rare Recruiting Loss to West Virginia

That streak ended Friday evening as West Virginia got a big win over Notre Dame. At least in terms of recruiting.

Perhaps the West Virginia Mountaineers football program was just due to get a victory over Notre Dame. Since the teams first met in the 1989 Fiesta Bowl, the Fighting Irish have won all four contests the teams have played on the field.

That streak ended Friday evening as West Virginia got a big win over Notre Dame. At least in terms of recruiting.

Wyatt Milum, an offensive tackle rated as a top 25 player in the entire 2021 recruiting class by 247Sports announced Friday that’d he be taking his talents to West Virginia next year.

Notre Dame has a strong start in recruiting for 2021 but this one no-doubt stings. It’s one thing to lose out on prospects to Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson or LSU. It’s another when West Virginia wins the services of players you so badly want.

It may seem odd but it’s hard to knock a young man for staying home. I can relate as I always thought I wanted to go a huge school far from home…and then I wound up at a tiny one an hour away.

Either way the push for a second offensive tackle in this class now becomes a bigger concern. Landon Tengwell of Maryland and Nolan Rucci of Pennsylvania are just two of several possibilities there.

If there is a silver lining in this it’s that at least it happened now and not down the road when Notre Dame’s staff was thinking a commitment was certainly coming and time was instead wasted.

Either way, Jeff Quinn (OL Coach) will need to do his best Mariano Rivera impression soon and close another one of these tackles commitments out to join Avon, Indiana’s four star Blake Fisher.
