Looking ahead: Here are the top 5 betting favorites for the 2023 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass

Who are you picking to win at TPC Sawgrass?

The PGA Tour has started its Florida swing with the Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens this weekend. Next up is the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t look a bit ahead to the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Last year’s champion Cameron Smith will not be in the field due to his move to the LIV Golf League, however, 2021 winner Justin Thomas and 2019 champ Rory McIlroy will both make the trip to Jacksonville.

Let’s take a look at the top five betting favorites for the 2023 Players Championship.

2023 Honda Classic: Odds, course history, players to watch and picks to win

Can Shane Lowry get his revenge at PGA National after coming oh-so-close last year?

After back-to-back designated events and a long run on the West Coast, the PGA Tour is headed to Florida for the next month, starting with the Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

Due to its place in the schedule, the field is underwhelming.

Sungjae Im and Billy Horschel are a few of the big names while Sepp Straka returns to defend his title.

This year will mark the end of Honda’s sponsorship of the event as the Tour narrows down the list of potential replacements.

Pierceson Coody, the 2022 PGA Tour University No. 1 and two-time Korn Ferry Tour winner, will make his first start on Tour as a professional.

The PGA Tour is back in California for the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, the second of back-to-back full-field designated events.

In all, 23 of the world’s top 25 players are in the field, along with 15-time major champion Tiger Woods. This will be his first non-major appearance since the 2020 Zozo Championship and first competitive event since the 2022 Open.

He has since played in The Match series and PNC Championship.

Newly-crowned world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler grabbed a top 10 here last season while the defending champion, Joaquin Niemann, now plays for LIV Golf.

2023 Genesis Invitational longshot picks: Does Tiger Woods have any chance at Riviera sitting at 150/1?

Tiger Woods is +150 to make the cut this weekend.

The year’s second full-field designated event is here, as 23 of the top 25 players in the Official World Golf Ranking have made their way to Riviera Country Club for the Genesis Invitational.

Oh, and some guy named Tiger Woods is going to be there, too. For all those kids reading, go look him up on YouTube. He was pretty good.

Woods has never won at Riviera and enters the week at 150/1. Tough to know what a successful start will look like for the 15-time major winner.

Now, let’s dive into three longshot picks, starting with Woods.

Will Zalatoris at 35/1? That’s too good to pass up.

Welcome to one of the best weeks of the year. Riviera Country Club is as good as it gets — arguably a top-three golf course we see annually on the PGA Tour — and the field is absolutely loaded.

The second full-field designated event of the season doesn’t only boast 23 of the world’s top 25 players, but Tiger Woods is set to make his return on Thursday.

Ever heard of him?

The 15-time major champion has never won at Riviera and, understandably, is a longshot to do so this week at 150/1.

Newly-crowned world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has bettered his finish at this event three appearances in a row, capped off with a T-7 in 2022.

Packers tied for fourth-best odds to win NFC in 2023

In odds released following Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Packers are tied for the fourth-best odds to win the NFC in 2023.

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a disappointing 8-9 season in 2022 and now dealing with more uncertainty regarding the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but oddsmakers still like Matt LaFleur’s team as a contender in the NFC in 2023.

According to new odds from Tipico Sportsbook released following Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Packers are tied with two other teams at +1200 for the fourth-best betting odds to win the NFC next season.

The favorite to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 58? The San Francisco 49ers at +320, followed closely by the reigning conference champion Philadelphia Eagles at +350. The Cowboys are third at +550, followed far behind by the Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions at +1200.

The odds highlight the powerhouses at the top of the conference but also suggest the NFC is wide open entering the 2023 season.

The Packers haven’t won the NFC since following the 2010 season. The franchise is 0-4 in NFC title games over the last 12 years.

Odds to win NFC in 2023, Tipico

49ers +320
Eagles +350
Cowboys +550
Packers +1200
Rams +1200
Lions +1200
Vikings +1500
Giants +1500

The Packers do have long odds to win Super Bowl 58. The team is +3000 at Tipico and +2500 at Bet MGM.

The champion Chiefs are favored to win the AFC again and win Super Bowl 58 at +550 odds.

What are the Saints’ odds to win Super Bowl LVIII next year?

What are the New Orleans Saints’ odds to win Super Bowl LVIII next year? Oddsmakers have them on top of the NFC South for 2023:

The 2022 NFL season came to a close on Sunday night when the Kansas City Chiefs came back to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in a 38-35 thriller, winning Super Bowl LVII as their second championship for the superstar duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

But how favorably are the New Orleans Saints viewed with a 7-10 debut for the Dennis Allen behind them? The answer may surprise you. According to BetMGM, the Saints are tied with the Dolphins and Rams at +3000 odds of winning it all next season. That’s tied for 13th-best around the league, behind a host of playoff teams and others hopeful to reach the postseason. If you placed a $100 wager on the Saints with those odds, it would return a $3,000 profit if they went all the way.

The Lions, Packers, Jaguars, and Jets are locked in a four-way tie just ahead of this cluster with +2500 odds of winning Super Bowl LVIII. It shouldn’t shock anyone that the Chiefs are favorites to repeat (+600) with the Bengals, Bills, and Eagles not far behind. Each of those teams fought hard in the playoffs and made a strong case to contend for the Lombardi Trophy, and they’ll be back in the mix next year.

However, the Saints are getting a leg up on their competition around the NFC South. They’re favored to win Super Bowl LVIII ahead of the Panthers (+5000), Falcons and Buccaneers (both +8000), which is good to see. The Saints have a strong roster and a mostly-intact coaching staff, so if they can find a quarterback and enjoy better health than they struggled with last year, they could push those pretenders aside in the division. It remains to be seen whether the Saints will accomplish either of those goals, but that’s the first step towards winning another Super Bowl. Before they can worry about locking up the championship, they’ve got to end their two-year playoffs drought.

The Card: Here’s this week’s 2023 WM Phoenix Open betting slip, featuring an appearance from Tom Kim

It just felt right to put the people’s champion on the card for the people’s tournament.

It just felt right to put the people’s champion on the card for the people’s tournament – but we’ll get to that in a minute.

This week’s WM Phoenix Open is the first full-field designated event of the PGA Tour season. What does that mean? Just a major championship-like tee sheet at TPC Scottsdale.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who is making his 2023 Tour debut, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and 19 other members of the top 25 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Mix that with the best fan atmosphere we see all season long, and this weekend is set to be a doozy.

It felt right that our new series, “The Card,” debut this week. I post my full betting card on my Twitter (@rileyhamel_) every Wednesday, but just in case you don’t follow me there, here’s my slip for this week.

Tom Kim, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland are all featured. Let’s grab an outright winner in the desert.

2023 WM Phoenix Open: Best bets, fantasy one and done picks, and more

Get in on golf’s biggest party!

As far as non-major events go, there is nothing in golf that compares to the WM Phoenix Open.

And that might even be giving a little too much credit to the majors.

Between the party atmosphere, the warm weather, the stadium course design and the electric field, the Phoenix Open is what happens when the PGA Tour gets tired of hearing about how “boring” its events are.

While the host course, TPC Scottsdale, isn’t slated to open a sportsbook until next year’s event, there’s tons of action to be had once again in this year’s field.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler (+1200) is looking to become the first player to repeat since Hideki Matsuyama in 2016-2017 while a scorching Jon Rahm (+750) enters as the favorite.

It’s Super Bowl week in Phoenix and the party begins in Scottsdale.

Let’s get to the bets.
