PFF: 5 lowest-graded Bills players on offense in Week 11

Not their best day:

The Buffalo Bills defeated the New York Jets, 32-6, in their Week 11 matchup on Sunday afternoon.

The Bills (6-5) had a few players that stood out above the rest in this one. On offense, the Bills were lead by quarterback Josh Allen who led a new-look offense with Joe Brady now calling the shots as offensive coordinator.

But not everyone had a game to remember.

To get more wins, Buffalo will hope such efforts will reverse throughout the rest of the 2023 season as the push toward the postseason unfolds… particularly, they’ll need better efforts from these players, according to Pro Football Focus.

Here are the five lowest-graded Bills players on offense against the Jets (4-6) according to PFF’s metrics:

Report card: Bills fall to Bengals, 24-18

Report card: #Bills fall to #Bengals, 24-18:

The Buffalo Bills lost out on an opportunity to build onto their push to the playoffs in Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Buffalo (5-4) lost 24-18 in Cincinnati. Now the Bills will have to regroup and hope their march toward the postseason does not fall short for the first time since 2018.

Buffalo’s game plan was hampered by inconsistent play and in the end that was reflected by the final score.

The same can be said for the grades the team received following the contest, too.

PFF: 5 worst-graded Bills players on offense in Week 9

Not their best day:

The Buffalo Bills lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-18, in their Week 9 matchup on Sunday Night Football.

The Bills (5-4) had a few players that stood out above the rest in this one. Particularly on defense, Buffalo had a sound game plan. However, the Bills were not perfect and in the end, the final score tells that story.

The Bills will hope consistency and wins return in their throughout the rest of the 2023 season. But Buffalo will need these players to turn it around a bit as far as Pro Football Focus is concerned.

With that, here are the five worst-graded Bills players on offense against the Bengals (5-3) according to PFF’s metrics:

PFF: Bills offensive line remains outside top-10 power rankings

PFF’s latest analysis on the #Bills offensive line:

It was a fiesty and a bit inconsistent day for the Bills offensive line against the Giants in Week 6.

The Bills won 14-9 and the game got heated. The offensive line took on the Giants’ defensive front head on.

As a fight ensued, the Bills did a great job of standing up for each other. In terms of play on the field, the Bills offensive line enjoyed the type of outing one might not expect.

The Giants sport a defensive front that hasn’t brought pressure on opposing quarterbacks consistently this year. They did that against the Bills. The Giants did not have a sack, but quarterback Josh Allen was on the run a lot.

The Giants’ marquee piece on the defensive line is Dexter Lawrence in the middle. He’s excellent against the run, and Leonard Williams next to him is no slouch either.

But the Bills found their rhythm in the run game. James Cook had a strong second half on the ground, grinding away the Giants and the clock. He had 71 total rushing yards a week after having a -4 mark.

In the end, Pro Football Focus felt a similar way. The Bills weren’t great but not terrible so there’s no movement in their weekly power ranking.

The football analytics outlet kept the Bills offensive line at No. 12 in their weekly poll heading into Week 7 after dropping them one position last week.

Here’s the latest PFF breakdown on the Bills O-line:

Projected Week 7 starters:
LT Dion Dawkins
LG Connor McGovern
C Mitch Morse
RG O’Cyrus Torrence
RT Spencer Brown

  • Right tackle Spencer Brown suffered a knee injury in Sunday night’s game but was able to return after missing three snaps.
  • Among the nine rookie guards who have played at least 100 pass plays, Buffalo’s O’Cyrus Torrence has the highest pass-blocking grade. He has yet to allow a sack.

PFF: Bills offensive line continues to rise in weekly rankings

PFF keeps singing the praises of the #Bills offensive line:

The Buffalo Bills are slowly starting to gain a bit more respect along their offensive line.

Pro Football Focus has updated their NFL-wide power rankings among offensive lines for this week. The Bills (2-1) have moved up another spot.

Overall, Buffalo’s O-line is now ranked the 16th best grouping in the league. Last week, PFF ranked the Bills at No. 17.

While a minimal move up, the week prior saw a big one for the Bills. Buffalo previously leapt up six spots.

In terms of individuals, the football analytics outlet loves Dion Dawkins. The Bills’ left tackle and anchor of the offensive line is on pace to have a career-best season in terms of PFF’s rankings. Buffalo’s run blocking has been credited as a positive, too.

En route for the unit is the Miami Dolphins. They sport a defensive front with the likes of Christian Wilkins and Jaelan Phillips who will both be a handful.

Do the Cowboys regret drafting Schoonmaker instead of Torrence?

Given the troubles the Cowboys have experienced across the O-line, will they come to regret picking a Luke Schoonmaker over O’Cyrus Torrence? @ReidDHanson wonders if they do already.

When the Cowboys went on the clock at Pick No. 58 in the 2023 NFL draft, they had a decision to make. Do they address the position group they almost picked in the first round, when they were debating between DT Mazi Smith and OL Andrew Bergeron? Or do they address the TE position that appeared to have an immediate opening and a waning number of players left on the board?

As everyone knows, Dallas opted for the second option, selecting TE Luke Schoonmaker in the second round instead of Florida OL O’Cyrus Torrence, and kicking the can on their offensive line concerns. It was a decision questioned at the time and three weeks into the regular season, it’s a decision that’s being questioned even more so today.

The Cowboys offensive line situation has been an adventure in 2023. Tyler Smith missed the first two games of the season nursing a hamstring. Various bumps and bruises over those first two weeks forced three other unproven linemen onto the field as well.

Then in Week 3, Tyler Biadasz, Tyron Smith and Zack Martin were all sidelined with their own injuries. Just three weeks in, only one lineman has started all three games at the same position; Terence Steele at RT.

At this point, there’s no question the Cowboys could have used another good offensive lineman on the roster. The Dallas reserves have put up a noble effort, but effort isn’t what wins games.

Head coach Mike McCarthy essentially admitted to a conservative offensive gameplan because of the status of his offensive line. That attack only netted the Cowboys one touchdown in five trips to the red zone.

One can conclude a better offensive line would have resulted in a much different result in Arizona and a much more secure future going forward.
