College Football News Updates Bowl Projections, Notre Dame is Peachy

In their post-spring bowl projections, CFN has Notre Dame going somewhere they’ve never been before.

Although the season is seemingly up in the air, that didn’t stop College Football News from releasing their post-spring updated bowl projections. With the Irish ranked inside the Top 10 in the majority of preseason projected polls, the expectations for the upcoming season are sky high.

At the current moment CFN has Notre Dame facing off against Florida in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Yes, a bit disappointing because it is not a Final 4 spot in the College Football Playoff, those went to Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia, but a New Year’s 6 contest none the less.

The Peach Bowl would be a new destination for the Irish, as they have never participated in this bowl game in their long history. The At-Large spot means that Notre Dame had a successful season, but at least one hiccup along the way, a possibility of two. Even if it is two games that Brian Kelly’s 2020 team would lose, a Top 10 ranking should come with the At-Large selection.

It may seem like a frustrating season, but only one team wins the National Championship every year, only 4 teams have a shot at distinction, and making a New Years 6 Bowl game should be viewed as a successful year. Making a trip to Atlanta and playing on New Years Day, would be a great way to end another productive season in South Bend.

Notre Dame Football: One Irish Player Named to ESPN’s “All-Bowl Team”

Claypool’s ridiculous day didn’t earn him a spot

Bowl season has come and gone and despite the Camping World Bowl not being the most exciting destination for Notre Dame fans, the Irish rolled Iowa State 33-9.

In that game Chase Claypool walked away with MVP honors after he pulled down seven receptions for 146 yards, one touchdown and another score that was ultimately overturned.  However, Claypool’s ridiculous day didn’t earn him a spot on ESPN’s All Bowl Team for 2019.

Notre Dame’s sole-representitive on the team went to Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Quite frankly, JOK was a freak on the field against Iowa State as he recorded nine tackles, had three sacks, four tackles for loss, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and an additional hurry on Iowa State Brock Purdy to boot.

Owusu-Koramoah’s day got Irish fans excited for a 2020 where the sky appears to be the limit and the Camping World Bowl highlighted just that.

If you’re upset about Claypool not being named to the team, it’s at least for good reason – receivers were downright nasty this bowl season.  Tyler Johnson of Minnesota pulled down 204 yards and two scores against Auburn, Jerry Jeudy of Alabama also had 204 yards and a score in a win over Michigan and George Pickens of Georgia had 175 yards and a touchdown in their win over Baylor.

Notre Dame Almanac: Happy Anniversary Music City Bowl

LSU quarterback Anthony Jennings completed a then game-record 75 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver John Diarse.  Jennings other 13 pass attempts on the afternoon totaled just 76 more yards.  Joe Burrow was still a senior at Athens High School on this day.

I woke up this morning and began flipping channels only to come to ESPN-U.  I thought I was still in a haze when it said the 2014 Music City Bowl between Notre Dame and LSU was being shown.

If you’re a Notre Dame fan you remember the Irish pulling off the win to finish a 2014 season that began with so much positivity until one bad call in Tallahassee sent things spiraling out of control the second half of the season.

It did end on a high note however as the Irish earned their first win over an SEC team since beating Tennessee in 2005.

Do you remember how ridiculous that game was, though?

A young man named Leonard Fournette announcing his arrival by returning a kickoff 100 yards for a socre and setting the record for longest run in Music City Bowl history, an 89 yard touchdown run.  He’d finish with 264 total yards.

Notre Dame went back and forth between Everett Golson and Malik Zaire at quarterback as the two combined to throw for 186 yards and a touchdown while Zaire also helped play the ball-possession game in carrying 22 times for 96 yards.

Notre Dame ran the ball 51 times on the day, an almost exact 2:1 ratio as they attempted 26 passes.

CJ Prosise began his transformation to running back that afternoon as he had three carries (also had three carries all year coming in) for 75 yards, including a 50 yard scoring run.  A pretty nice first step for what wound up being a special 2015 for him.

LSU quarterback Anthony Jennings completed a then game-record 75 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver John Diarse.  Jennings other 13 pass attempts on the afternoon totaled just 76 more yards.  Joe Burrow was still a senior at Athens High School on this day.

And most importantly it all ended with Kyle Brindza hitting a 32 yard field goal as time expired to give Notre Dame (+8.5) the upset victory.

That was five years ago today, relive some of those fun memories by watching the highlights below:

Notre Dame Bowl Projections – Post Week 14

These were the five outlets with six total projections that I was able to find Sunday evening.  Do you have a preference in which Big XII team Notre Dame plays in Orlando, where it appears they’re ultimately headed?

Notre Dame accomplished it’s goal after the debacle in Michigan, going 5-0 in the month of November and finishing 10-2.

Most years a 10-2 Notre Dame team would be playing in a big-time bowl game, one of the New Year’s Six, but in this strange college football season it appears that dream is dead, something I declared a week ago.

After the regular season finale in Week-14 and before the conference championship games this coming weekend, here is where the bowl projection experts have Notre Dame going and who they have them squaring up against:

247Sports:
Brad Crawford – Camping World Bowl vs. Oklahoma State

CBS:
Jerry Palm – Camping World Bowl vs. Texas

College Football News:
Pete Fiutak – Camping World Bowl vs. Oklahoma State

ESPN:
Bonagura – Camping World Bowl vs. Oklahoma State
Schlabach – Camping World Bowl vs. Oklahoma State

The Sporting News:
Bill Bender – Camping World Bowl vs. Kansas State

These were the five outlets with six total projections that I was able to find Sunday evening.  Do you have a preference in which Big XII team Notre Dame plays in Orlando, where it appears they’re ultimately headed?  If so, leave it and the reason why on our new message board!
