Two Clemson Tigers earn ACC Weekly Honors

Two Tigers had an excellent weekend.

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that Clemson offensive lineman Marcus Tate (ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week) and placekicker Nolan Hauser (ACC Specialist of the Week) have collected ACC weekly honors for their performances in Clemson’s 29-13 victory at Florida State on Saturday.

The honors in their respective categories represent the first in the careers of both Tate and Hauser. Their selections also represent Clemson’s second and third ACC weekly honors of the season, and the Tigers have now garnered a total of 581 ACC weekly awards since 1968.

On Saturday, Tate and his counterparts on Clemson’s offensive line helped power the Tigers to 500 total yards, including 265 on the ground. Back in his home state, the Florida native helped clear the way for running back Phil Mafah’s 25-carry, 154-yard rushing performance, including the fourth quarter as Clemson leaned on its veteran running game to seal the victory with 11 runs and no passes for 109 yards in the final frame.

Tate’s selection is Clemson’s 21st ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honor since 2018. He becomes the first Clemson offensive lineman to earn the honor since Will Putnam collected the award for performances against Notre Dame and North Carolina last season.

Hauser accounted for 17 points in Clemson’s 16-point victory against the Seminoles. His five field goals represented Clemson’s first five-field-goal performance since Chandler Catanzaro went 5-for-5 on field goal attempts against Boston College in 2011. It was the seventh five-field-goal performance by a kicker in Clemson history.

Hauser joins Richard Jackson, Catanzaro, Spencer Benton, Ammon Lakip and Jonathan Weitz as the sixth Clemson placekicker to earn an ACC Specialist of the Week selection in Head Coach Dabo Swinney’s tenure. Hauser is the 15th player in Swinney’s tenure to earn the honor when expanded to include punters and return specialists, and he is the first to do so since Weitz’s 3-for-3 performance on field goals in a win at South Carolina last November.

Tate, Hauser and the Tigers will be on the road again next week when Clemson faces the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday, Oct. 12. That game will kick off at noon ET on ESPN. Clemson will return to Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19 for another noon contest against the Virginia Cavaliers; ticket packages for games at Memorial Stadium are available here.

Dabo Swinney announces Clemson football’s starting kicker

Clemson has a new starting kicker.

The Clemson football program has a new starting kicker.

Meeting with the media Tuesday, Swinney shared that freshman kicker Nolan Hauser won the job and will be the No. 14 Tigers’ starting kicker for their massive Week 1 matchup against Kirby Smart and the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

“Hauser won the job in camp,” Swinney said Tuesday. It was that simple. It is not subjective. It was cut and dry. He just had a better camp. It can change next week. It can change in two weeks.

“He clearly won the job. It’s not like it was tied. It was for a little while, but he clearly separated. So, he has done a great job, and he earned the opportunity to start in this game.”

Swinney noted that Robert Gunn will continue to take kickoffs for the Tigers.

There has been a lot of hype surrounding Hauser, who was one of the kickers in the history of high school football. He ended his high school career with a National record of 66 hit field goals.

“He is the all-time high school leader. So, it is no different. He just needs to do what he has been doing his whole life,” Swinney said.

Fans will hope Hauser brings some consistency to the Tigers’ special teams.

Clemson players appear on 247Sports’ Preseason True Freshman All-America Team

Linebacker Sammy Brown and kicker Nolan Hauser made 247Sports’ Preseason True Freshman All-American Team.

Two Clemson players were named to 247Sports’ Preseason True Freshman All-American Team Tuesday.

Linebacker Sammy Brown appeared on the list, as did kicker Nolan Hauser. Both are highly touted recruits from the Tigers’ 2024 class. Brown is a consensus five-star recruit from Jefferson, Ga., who committed to Clemson in June 2023. 247Sports ranked him the No. 2 linebacker in the class of 2024 and the No. 14 player overall.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer said of Brown:

“Sammy Brown isn’t going to start for Clemson this year. Those jobs belong to Barrett Carter and Wade Woodaz. But Brown, one of the true freaks of the 2024 class, is still positioned for a big role. Dabo Swinney has said in fall camp that he expects Brown to be a starter on special teams, and it’s very easy to envision him having a large rotational role like Woodaz did a season ago. Brown is just too good an athlete to keep off the field.”

Hauser is a three-star recruit from North Carolina who was ranked the No. 1 kicker in the class of 2024. Swinney has said that Hauser has been in the lead for the top spot at kicker in fall camp over sophomore Robert Gunn.

Per 247Sports:

“Field-goal kicking was an adventure for Clemson last season, so much so that Swinney quite literally pulled Jonathan Weitz out of retirement (he was set to start a full-time job) and he ended up starting for the Tigers. Now, the guy whom Weitz replaced, Robert Gunn, is being pushed yet again — this time by the top-ranked kicker from the 2024 class.”

Clemson opens the 2024 season Aug. 31 against Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (noon ET, ABC). The Tigers are ranked No. 14 in the preseason AP Top 25 and US LBM Coaches Polls. Georgia is ranked No. 1 in both polls.

Clemson Football’s 2024 Recruiting Class

Here is a look at Clemson football’s 2024 recruiting class after adding two preferred walk-on wide receivers.

Swinney on Hauser: ‘He’s the best kicker in the country’

Dabo Swinney shared high praise for Clemson’s newest kicker.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program are bringing in one of the top kickers in the country in their 2024 class, but according to Swinney, he is the top kicker.

Clemson singing Nolan Hauser is a phenomenal kicker. He’s so good that he is a national record holder for field goals made in a high school career. An impressive feat, Hauser has hit a lot of field goals in his young career.
Swinney shared high praise for Hauser on early signing day.

“He’s the best kicker in the country. He’s kicked more field goals I think than that anybody ever I think he broke the all time high school record, maybe about halfway through the season this year. But you know, Hauser, he’s an athlete, he comes from an athletic family, obviously, his mom and dad were both athletes here at Clemson,” Swinney said.

Things get interesting at the position next season and Hauser should be right in the competition for starter. Clemson fans will expect big things from someone with a track record as good as Hauser’s.

Clemson commit ties national record for career field goals

Nolan Hauser is one field goal away from history.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson coaching staff have done a great job so far in the 2024 recruiting class putting together a group of future Tigers who should have a major impact on the programs future.

One of these future Tigers, Hough High School All-American Nolan Hauser is on the verge of making history. During Hough’s latest 20-17 win over  Dutch Fork, Hauser made two field goals and tied the high school national record for career field goals (56). While this in itself is history, one more field goal and he is the all time leader.

Take a look below at Hauser tying the record as he helped lead his team to a win.

Clemson commit Nolan Hauser ties national field goal record

Nolan Hauser ties the national high school football record for kicking field goals.

Following his performance on Friday night, Nolan Hauser is set to become the most prolific field goal kicker in high school football history. Not surprisingly, the Clemson commit is considered one of the top field goal kickers in the nation.

Hauser kicked two field goals this past Friday night to spearhead Hough’s 20-17 win over Dutch Fork (who won the 5A championship in South Carolina last year). The national record for field goals stands at 56, set by Texas kicker Cole Hedlund from 2011-13.

Ranked the No. 3 kicker in the country by 247Sports, Hauser committed to Clemson last November. He held offers from Maryland, North Carolina and North Carolina State.

On the season, Hauser is averaging 52 yards per kickoff and 40 yards per punt.
