Former Ohio State defender transfers to NC State

Former Ohio State defender transfers to NC State #GoBucks

With the hype of the early signing period winding down, we move back to the portal hype train (the gift that keeps giving — and taking away). There are few things in sports more intriguing than the transfer portal and another former Ohio State Buckeye has made a decision on his next destination.

Noah Potter was a former four-star recruit from Mentor, Ohio, in the class of 2019. The defensive end spent three seasons in Columbus but saw action in just two games. In Potter’s defense, his third season at Ohio State was lost due to a detached retina.

Potter entered the transfer portal for the first time and landed on Cincinnati as the ideal landing spot for the 2022 season. Potter finished last season with 17 tackles, three for loss and 1.5 sacks for the Bearcats. After this past regular season was completed, Potter returned to the portal and will transfer to North Carolina State.

Potter’s portal experience was odd. He placed his name in the portal and visited North Carolina State but elected to play in the Bearcats’ bowl game. We wish this gamer good luck in the ACC.

Former Ohio State defensive lineman Noah Potter transferring to Cincinnati

We wish Potter luck in Cincy … #GoBucks

Former Ohio State defensive lineman Noah Potter is transferring to Cincinnati (subscription may be required) to play for Luke Fickell.

The news comes after Potter entered the transfer portal in late April and has apparently been looking for where the best fit for him would be after deciding to leave the Buckeye program.

Potter came to Columbus as a highly-regarded 4-star prospect out of Cincinnati Mentor. He never really made his way through the depth chart for significant playing time, but last year was marred by injury. Not only did he suffer a foot injury, but he also had to deal with eye surgery in October. He is the brother of former Ohio State basketball forward Micah Potter who also went the transfer route and landed at Wisconsin.

Potter last appeared on the field for Ohio State back in 2020 when he got in the action in four total games.

Noah Potter latest Ohio State football player to enter the transfer portal

Another football player has hit the transfer portal. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program is slowly but surely getting down to its scholarship limit number. We’ve seen more guys enter the transfer portal than previous ones, and that has to do with both the times we’re living in, and the fact that the program is over the 85-scholarship limit.

This time, defensive end Noah Potter announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and look to continue his career at another school. The news was first reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Potter came to Ohio State as a 4-star defensive line prospect out of Cincinnati Mentor and leaves the program as a redshirt junior. He is the younger brother of former Buckeyes basketball forward Micah Potter who also entered the transfer portal and ended up at Wisconsin.

Despite the news, OSU is still in good shape on the defensive line, and it is unlikely that Potter would have elbowed his way into any significant rotation as time progressed.

We’ll keep an eye on where Potter might land, and we of course wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
