Chiefs OC Matt Nagy nicknames Week 11 standout: ‘He’s Mr. Consistent’

During his press conference, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy praised tight end Noah Gray’s play beyond the numbers.

“He’s been somebody that, since I got here, I’ve really taken onto what he’s done as far as the details, his practice habits, his in-game adjustments, making plays when he gets a chance; you see what he did last week in Buffalo, he made some nice plays. He’s Mr. Consistent. I think it’s very valuable.” said Nagy. “He’s probably one of the more underrated and under-appreciated guys outside of this building when you look at what he does.”

Gray’s career game in last week’s loss to the Buffalo Bills put him in the spotlight as an offensive threat. Nagy, however, has consistently recognized his value in more than just the catches and touchdowns.

“Probably the biggest thing that I see is he transfers what he does in practice to the game,” said Nagy. “If you look at it from the practice standpoint, every single rep that he gets, he makes count sometimes. I think what’s more special about that part of it is that he might not be one or two in the progression; he might be three in the progression, and when you get back to three in the progression, you know he’s always going to be there doing the right thing.”

Due to Buffalo’s coverage, the Chiefs offense could not get much production from stars Travis Kelce and DeAndre Hopkins last week. Gray’s emergence as an offensive weapon in the red zone should help the balance this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense has utilized the services of a great pass-catching tight end throughout the franchise’s history. Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters on Wednesday, praising a tight end on his roster who has been making plays lately, but he is not named Travis Kelce.

“He (Noah Gray) does everything the right way. He’s learned a ton from Trav (Travis Kelce), and so he knows how to work within the rules of the offense and get himself open,” said Mahomes. “He’s just a guy that’s going to be in the right spot, so as a quarterback, if you’re going to give him the football, he’s going to make the play happen. He’s not going to talk a lot. He’s going to come in – he’s going to come to work, do his job, but at the same time, those are the guys you want on your team because you
know that he’s going to do whatever it takes to win.”

Gray scored his first two touchdowns this season in last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, registering his first-career multi-touchdown performance. The two touchdown receptions on the season match his single-season career high from the 2023 season. He tied a single-game career-high with four receptions for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Gray was a prime target for Patrick Mahomes in Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. In his postgame press conference, Gray explained to reporters that his accolades were second to the team’s success.

“I mean, it doesn’t really matter because the only thing I think that does matter is the win, but that was a great Buffalo team out there. Played us extremely hard.” said Gray. “All the guys on our side played extremely hard and grind it out from the O-Line receivers to Pat (Patrick Mahomes). Yeah, and, unfortunately, we lost, but you know, that was a really good Buffalo team, and unfortunate that we lost, but we’re looking forward to next week.”

In the first half, on a third-and-two, Patrick Mahomes found Gray for a two-yard touchdown reception to give the Chiefs the lead, 14-13. Gray caught a one-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to pull the Chiefs within two of the Bills, 23-21.

The scores marked Gray’s first touchdowns this season, registering his first-career multi-touchdown performance. His two touchdown receptions on the season match his single-season career high from the 2023 season. He ended the night by tying a single-game career-high with four receptions for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes found TE Noah Gray for a second touchdown against the Buffalo #Bills in Week 11.

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to keep their undefeated season alive as they try to earn a come-from-behind against the Buffalo Bills.

The Chiefs have not played their best game of football against the Bills in arguably the most important game of the season, but with just under eight minutes to go, the reigning Super Bowl champs only trail by two points.

After lackluster gameplay by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as well as the defense’s inability to keep Buffalo’s offense off the field, Kansas City was able to drive down the field near the end of the fourth quarter to find tight end Noah Gray in the back of the endzone.

Take a look at Gray’s back-corner touchdown catch, which was posted by the Chief’s official account on Twitter:

If Kansas City wants to keep its perfect season intact, Mahomes will need to continue spreading the ball around to various receivers.

Keep an eye out for the veteran tight end in the final few minutes of Sunday’s game.

The Chiefs, as the last undefeated team in the league, entered Sunday’s game with a chance to take command of the top seed in the AFC. Gray’s touchdown put them back in front by a single point.

Kansas City drafted Gray in the fifth round back in 2021, and he entered Sunday’s game with 866 receiving yards and four touchdowns for his career. He put together one of the best games of his career against the San Francisco 49ers on October 20, picking up 66 yards on four receptions, and he amassed 19 receptions for 221 yards through the Chiefs’ first nine games.

Gray ended his four-year collegiate career with 105 receptions for 948 yards and eight touchdowns in Durham. His best year came in 2019 when he caught 51 passes for 392 yards and three scores.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce receives praise from coaches for his blocking: ‘He’s not selfish’

Kansas City #Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce receives praise from coaches for his blocking: ‘He’s not selfish’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on the team during his weekly Zoom press conference with reporters on Monday. He spoke highly of tight end Travis Kelce’s contributions as a blocker aside from being an offensive target.

“He’s (Travis Kelce) so willing to do that (block). He just wants to win, which is what he wants to do, and make sure that we’re doing well offensively,” said Reid. “He’s not selfish (in) that way; he just wants to be in there, right? He wants to be in and playing, and as a result – if you take the offensive lineman out of the picture – he’s always one of the top play-per-game guys, and that’s him, and he prepares that way during the week. He busts his tail during the week, and part of that is the run game, and he makes sure that he stays on top of that.”

Kelce hauled in four passes for 17 yards as backup tight end Noah Gray led the team with four receptions for 66 yards. The multiple-time pro bowler makes a difference in the running game as the Chiefs continue to damage on the ground with running back Kareem Hunt.

PFF: Noah Gray was Chiefs’ highest graded player in Week 7 win vs. 49ers

According to Pro Football Focus, #Chiefs TE Noah Gray was the highest graded player in Kansas City’s Week 7 win over the San Francisco #49ers.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the NFL after their 28-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in a Super Bowl LVIII rematch on Sunday.

One of the key factors in the Chiefs’ 6-0 start is their offensive depth, which Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have relied on after injuries to three of Kansas City’s offensive stars.

With so few impact players remaining, opportunities have opened up for players further down the depth chart, including veteran tight end Noah Gray, who had an exceptional outing against the 49ers on Sunday.

The experts at Pro Football Focus took note of Gray’s monster game, awarding him the highest grade of any Chiefs player in Kansas City’s Week 7 victory.

The former Duke Blue Devil posted a grade of 90.1, barely edging out third-year linebacker Leo Chenal:

When Kansas City heads out West to face the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend, look for Gray to continue to be productive while the Chiefs try to keep their perfect season alive.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid shares assessment of Travis Kelce’s start to the season: ‘Travis is fine’

Kansas City #Chiefs HC Andy Reid shares assessment of Travis Kelce’s start to the season: ‘Travis is fine’ | @EdEastonJr

The defending Super Bowl champions’ undefeated start doesn’t exclude them from critics seeking potential issues with the team.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Wednesday about the ongoing criticism of star tight end Travis Kelce over his lack of production through three games.

“I know people are saying that he’s old, or whatever, has distractions and all this. The defenses don’t think that,” said Reid. “We have another receiver that plays opposite him that has a lot of yards and catches, and that’s how this thing goes. Travis is fine.”

Kelce has eight catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns through three weeks. He’s had limited targets due to defensive strategy but has opened up opportunities for his teammates.

“He does know that, and he collects people, and then you have the check downs that we had last week, these big gains Noah (Gray) standing in the middle of the field by himself for one-on-one situations,” said Reid. “Trav (Travis Kelce) knows it. I mean, he literally said (as) he came off the field, so just keep dialing him up and let him do that.”

Kelce will look to bounce back this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi stadium, where he’s had good games in past seasons.

Chiefs TE Noah Gray talks mindset after contract extension: ‘Whatever they need me to do’

Kansas City #Chiefs TE Noah Gray talks mindset after contract extension: ‘Whatever they need me to do’ | @EdEastonJr

The depth at various positions is essential for a team seeking a deep championship run in the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs have consistently shown their appreciation for their roster.

Chiefs tight end Noah Gray earned a contract extension shortly before the start of the Week 1 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. He spoke to reporters on Friday after practice about being happy to stay in Kansas City and his mindset moving forward.

“I’m extremely grateful; I can’t thank God enough, I can’t thank Clark Hunt and the Hunt family enough, this organization, front office, coaches, teammates, just really everybody I’ve been fortunate enough to be in contact with these past three years (and) play with,” said Gray. “It’s just an absolute blessing. Just super grateful that I’m back here for the foreseeable future.”

The former fifth-round draft pick out of Duke in 2021 has 63 catches for 640 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons in Kansas City. He has garnered plenty of respect for his versatility and reliability on special teams.

“I mean, I’m just out here having fun with my boys; whatever my coaches need me to do, I’m willing to do it,” said Gray. “I give huge credit to Coach (Dave) Toub over the past three years, putting me in positions to be successful, Coach Tom (Melvin), and all the other coaches we have. Whatever they need me to do is what I do, and I have a ton of fun doing it.”

Gray’s three-year contract extension is another example of general manager Brett Veach showing his commitment to his draft selections continuing to develop over time.
