8 Seahawks highlights from New Year’s Eve loss to Steelers

Along the way, we got to see some impressive catches by DK Metcalf, a massive game from Noah Fant and several memorable runs by Ken Walker.

The Seahawks lost a huge home game today to the Steelers, 30-23. However, there were some bright flashes from Seattle’s loaded group of young skill players. Along the way, we got to see some impressive catches by DK Metcalf, a massive game from tight end Noah Fant and several memorable runs by Ken Walker.

Here are the top plays of the day for Seattle.

Geno Smith passes for three touchdowns in seven seconds, and the third actually counted

The Seahawks threw three touchdown passes at the end of the first half against the Cowboys, and the last one actually counted!

The Seattle Seahawks had a 21-20 lead over the Dallas Cowboys at the half of their Thursday night game, which made them the first Cowboys opponent to lead Dallas at halftime in Dallas.

Not that it was easy. With 11 seconds left in the first half, Geno Smith hit receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for that looked like a 30-yard touchdown. But after a replay review by referee Clete Blakeman in which Blakeman had time to binge every season of “Succession,” it was determined that Smith-Njigba did not have control of the catch.

Then, it looked as if Smith hit tight end Noah Fant for a one-yard touchdown, but Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy called time out just in time.

And then, finally and mercifully, with seven seconds left on the clock, Smith’s one-yard touchdown pass to D.K. Metcalf.

Sadly for the Seahawks, the NFL Rule Book states that a team can only score one touchdown per drive, but Seattle gave it their best.

Seahawks tight ends preaching patience, per Will Dissly

Seahawks tight ends preaching patience, per Will Dissly

The Seattle Seahawks’ offense has been incredibly frustrating as of late. What makes it especially frustrating is how deeply talented this unit is, and the fact said talent is being underutilized.

It is not just the receivers who are being underutilized – like rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba – but Seattle’s tight end group. I have long been an advocate for using Noah Fant more, but it is not just him. Between Fant, Will Dissly and Coly Parkinson, this position group has not been used to their full potential. As such, not one Seahawks tight end has caught a touchdown this season.

Let me repeat: not one Seahawks tight end has caught a touchdown this season.

As frustrating as that is, the good news is the Seattle tight ends seem to be handling it well. Dissly himself took to the media to explain the group is patient.

Simply put, the Seahawks need to get more creative on offense. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron needs to start figuring out how to incorporate his plethora of weapons and calling plays to get them far more involved.

Noah Fant on what makes Pete Carroll such a special coach

Watch Seahawks tight end Noah Fant talk about what makes Pete Carroll different compared to other head coaches around the NFL.

Approaching midseason, the Seahawks are once again in the thick of the playoff race in the NFC. Heading into today’s matchup with the Browns Seattle is in line for the fourth seed in the conference and a win would push their chances of making the postseason up to 70%.

It can be easy to take this for granted – but it’s rare for NFL teams to at least have a shot at the playoffs every single year. While he hasn’t won multiple championships at this level as of yet, Pete Carroll deserves a lot of the credit for keeping this team a contender for as long as he has.

Seahawks Week 8 injury report: 8 players did not practice

Another week, another lengthy injury report for the Seattle Seahawks. Wednesday practices have been rough this year, as several key players either did not practice or were limited.

On Wednesday, eight players did not practice, including the likes of Bobby Wagner, Tyler Lockett, and of course linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.

The good news is wide receiver DK Metcalf was a full participant, after missing the Week 7 game, as well as a pair of starting offensive linemen. Below is the full practice report:

6 Seahawks players ranked in top 10 at their position going by PFF grades

Pro Football Focus grades have six current Seahawks players ranked in the top 10 at their respective positions.Ā

Former Chicago Bulls general manager Jerry Krause liked to say that organizations win championships – implying that players were not responsible for his team’s winning six rings in eight years. As usual Krause was wrong. While it took at least a little bit of competence to recognize Michael Jordan’s potential and capitalize on the chance to draft him, the truth is that organizations only win championships when they’re great at finding talented athletes and putting them in a position to succeed.

The Seattle Seahawks are better than most NFL teams at this, which is why they’ve been at least a fringe playoff team ever since 2010. Pete Carroll and John Schneider obviously deserve a pretty large slice of the credit, but the main reason is their eye for finding capable players.

This latest version of the team may not have a bonanza of All-Pros like the San Francisco 49ers or several future Hall of Fame OL and DL like the Philadelphia Eagles. However, they do have a good number of quality performers on both sides of the ball, both veterans and rookies.

We can find evidence of this in the Pro Football Focus grades, which have six current Seahawks players ranked in the top 10 at their respective positions…

Best and worst PFF grades for the Seahawks from MNF victory

The Seattle Seahawks put a serious whooping on the New York Giants last night, adding another Monday Night Football victory to their league-best record in those games.

Peyton and Eli Manning were flabbergasted after the Giantsā€™ defense flubbed tackles on Noah Fant

We don’t know what just happened either, Peyton Manning.

After Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith left Monday night’s away game against the New York Giants with injury, New York’s defense let up one of the ugliest plays of the season so far.

On 3rd-and-10, Seahawks backup quarterback Drew Lock hit tight end Noah Fant on a nice completion that somehow turned into a 51-yard explosive play as the Giants defense found no way to tackle Fant as he nearly made it to the end zone.

The ManningCast hysterically broke down the perfect tush push: ā€˜You gotta push the right butt cheekā€™

It was just the epitome of horrible tackling for the Giants, and Peyton Manning couldn’t believe what he was watching on the ManningCast.

Eli Manning couldn’t quite figure out how this bizarre sequence happened to his former team, one that just shows how lackluster this Giants defense has been this season.

At the least, the Mannings trying to figure this disaster out was pretty entertaining.

We have no idea what’s going on with the Giants right now, but we’re at least glad to have the Mannings to walk us through whatever in the world this play was.

Fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em: Week 4

Here’s a look at some starts and sits for fantasy football in Week 4 of the 2023 season.

Nearly a quarter of the way into the season, fantasy football managers are already facing some difficult decisions regarding the starts and sits in their lineups entering Week 4.

Doing start/sit articles can be a little challenging. The players featured on the list below should not be taken as “must starts” or “must sits.” Instead, these are more suggestions on what we believe managers should do with fringe players heading into the weekend. The choice is ultimately up to the manager.

Just because a player is listed as a “start” doesn’t mean he should be put in the lineup over the secure, bona fide studs. Vice versa for the “sits.” If there’s no better option on the waiver wire or the bench, a manager shouldn’t automatically sit the player. That’s why these can be tricky waters to navigate.

Feel free to ask any specific start/sit questions via X, formerly Twitter, (@KevinHickey11) or check out our player projections for Week 4:

Levi Bell leads Seahawks with highest Pro Football Focus grade this week

The Seahawks might just have a strong and deep edge rotation after all.

The Seahawks might just have a strong and deep edge rotation after all. Saturday night’s preseason win over the Cowboys featured several high-quality performances from the team’s young group of mostly unproven outside linebackers. Tyreke Smith, Boye Mafe and Derick Hall have been getting most of the attention. However, according to PFF, the best of them was undrafted rookie Levi Bell out of Texas State. He posted the highest player rating for Seattle this week, earning an 89.5 overall grade.

Here are the best and worst perfomers on both sides of the ball this week, according to PFF’s overall player grades.
