Vikings sign WR N’Keal Harry to practice squad

After spending the beginning of training camp with the Vikings, N’Keal Harry is back with the team.

Wide receiver N’Keal Harry is back with the Minnesota Vikings.

On Monday, the Vikings announced they signed the veteran wide receiver to the practice squad. In a subsequent move, the Vikings released undrafted rookie Alan Ali from their practice squad.

Harry, 25, spent training camp and the early parts of the preseason with the Vikings but was waived as the team cut down to 53 players. In the Vikings’ preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks, Harry caught two passes for 24 yards. He did not register a catch in the team’s other two preseason games.

A former first-round selection by the New England Patriots, Harry has struggled to break through in the NFL, spending time with both the Patriots and Chicago Bears in four seasons.

Harry played in seven games for the Bears last season, tallying seven receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Over his career, he’s played in 40 games, totaling 714 yards and five touchdowns.

With the signing of Harry, the Vikings have four wide receivers on their practice squad. Trishton Jackson, Lucky Jackson, and Thayer Thomas were signed to the team’s first practice squad.

The decision to bring an additional receiver to the practice squad is a head-scratcher, but it may signal some concern regarding Jalen Nailor’s health for the season opener. NFL teams are allowed to elevate three practice squad players to their roster every week, so there’s a possibility that Harry is suited up for the Vikings season opener.

Former Patriots first-round pick WR N’Keal Harry released by Vikings

N’Keal Harry was released by the Vikings on Thursday.

Former New England Patriots wide receiver N’Keal Harry was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. The Vikings confirmed the news on the official team Twitter account.

Harry was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. The wide receiver struggled in New England, recording 57 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons. Injuries and inconsistency plagued Harry throughout his career with the Patriots.

He went to the Chicago Bears in 2022 and recorded seven catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Harry will now have to find his footing somewhere else, as he looks to become the player that recorded 2,889 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns in three seasons at Arizona State.

It remains to be seen where he will end up.

However, at only age 25, Harry is hitting the prime of his career. There could be an opportunity for him to break out with another team.

Vikings sign S Jake Gervase, release WR N’Keal Harry

Gervase has played in 19 games for the Los Angeles Rams, mostly on special teams.

The Minnesota Vikings have ended the N’Keal Harry experience early.

On Thursday, the Vikings announced that they released Harry. In his place on the 90-man roster, they signed safety Jake Gervase.

Gervase, 27, has played 19 games for the Los Angeles Rams, with most of his snaps coming on special teams. In 2022, Gervase played a career-high 304 special teams snaps and did not register a snap on defense.

Gervase signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent from Iowa, where he played for five seasons. In his final season, he led the team with 89 tackles and four interceptions and was named an honorable mention to the All-Big Ten Conference team.

Gervase will face a daunting task in making the Vikings’ 53-man roster, but a strong showing in their final preseason game could make things interesting. There are normally a few spots on the active roster reserved for special teams standouts, but the play of NaJee Thompson likely means there are fewer of those spots available.

WATCH: N’Keal Harry already showing off playmaking skills with Vikings

It didn’t take N’Keal Harry long to start making plays for the Vikings.

Former New England Patriots first-round draft pick N’Keal Harry wasted no time getting up to speed in the Minnesota Vikings offense.

The 25-year-old wide receiver was already on the field making plays after just signing with the team on Sunday. It marks the third NFL team he’s signed with after being taken with the No. 32 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft by the Patriots.

Injuries have been the biggest issue for Harry, but for whatever reason, things never clicked for him during his time with the Patriots and Chicago Bears. Perhaps things will be different in Kevin O’Connell’s offensive system in Minnesota.

Not a bad start for a player deemed a first-round draft bust.

Just because things didn’t work out in previous stops doesn’t mean Harry can’t put the pieces together on a different team, assuming he’s able to stay healthy. He has the kind of physical gifts most receivers can only dream of. Perhaps he’s finally in a position to live up to them.

Former Patriots first-round pick N’Keal Harry signs with NFC team

Former Patriots WR N’Keal Harry has a new home.

Former New England Patriots first-round draft pick N’Keal Harry has a new home. Per the transaction wire, the 25-year-old wide receiver has signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Harry spent the previous year playing with the Chicago Bears after being traded by the Patriots in July 2022.

An injury-plagued run in New England, coupled with an inability to make an impact on the football field, led to disappointment all around. There was hope that a change in scenery might do Harry some good, but it was the same song and dance in Chicago.

He was hampered with an ankle injury before the start of the season and struggled to make an impact when he returned. The No. 32 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft appeared in only seven games and finished the year with seven receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm in Minnesota.

Vikings sign WR N’Keal Harry, place James Lynch on IR

The Minnesota Vikings signed WR N’Keal Harry and officially placed DL James Lynch on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they officially placed defensive lineman James Lynch on injured reserve and signed wide receiver N’Keal Harry to fill his roster spot.

Lynch tore his ACL during Thursday’s practice and the move was expected. What wasn’t expected was the signing of both a wide receiver and it being Harry.

A first-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2019, Harry was picked before the likes of A.J. Brown, Deebo Samuel, D.K. Metcalf and Terry McLaurin. He struggled to create separation in space at Arizona State and that has translated to the NFL.

In his career, Harry has 64 receptions for 714 yards and five touchdowns. Harry last played with the Chicago Bears in 2022.

The move is likely just to add another body for camp, but Harry does add an element of size to a wide receiver room that relatively small across the board.

List of notable free agents after first week of training camp

There are some big-name options still available in free agency.

It’s usually slim pickings on the free agent market around this time of the year, but surprisingly, there are still several big-name players out there that remain unsigned.

Most of the notable talent is at the running back position with at least two or three potential NFL starters on the list. The Patriots could certainly use help at that position with Ty Montgomery going down with an injury.

They have mostly leaned on Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong Jr. as their top options behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Harris looks the most improved of the two, and they could make the decision to stick with him in the end.

However, they have visited with a few players on this list, including Ezekiel Elliott, Darrell Henderson and Leonard Fournette.

They’ve also reportedly considered a future visit with Dalvin Cook.

But there are more than just running backs on this list of NFL talent. Let’s take a look at some of the more notable unsigned free agents.

10 free agent wide receivers Broncos should consider signing

Going forward without Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler, the Broncos will need more depth at WR. Here’s a quick list of 10 free agents to monitor.

Following the losses of wide receivers Tim Patrick (Achilles) and KJ Hamler (pericarditis) on Monday, the Denver Broncos will likely sign at least one receiver in the coming days.

Hamler might be able to return to the team later this year, but Patrick is set to miss the entire 2023 season.

The biggest name free agent available is Julio Jones, but he is 34 years old and coming off a quiet season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Other big-game players available are Jarvis Landry (30) and T.Y. Hilton (33), who have both seen their production drop in recent seasons.

One unflashy name to watch is Nick Williams, who has had two different stints with the Broncos this spring. Williams is a local prospect who played high school football at Cherry Creek and started his college career at CSU-Pueblo before later transferring to UNLV ahead of the 2022 college football season.

With those names in mind, here’s a quick look at the full list of 10 free agent wide receivers the Broncos should consider signing.

5 free agents Chiefs could target after John Ross’ unexpected retirement

John Ross’ surprise retirement on Wednesday left a hole on the #Chiefs’ roster. Here are five free agents who could fill the gap:

The Kansas City Chiefs have an open spot on their 90-man roster after the unexpected retirement of wide receiver John Ross on Wednesday. Though they still seem comfortable with the construction of their team, general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid won’t let the vacancy linger for too long.

Here are five players that the Chiefs could consider signing from the NFL’s loaded pool of veteran free agents:

Eagles worked out seven players ahead of training camp

N’Keal Harry among seven players to work out for the Eagles

The Eagles are always looking to add more talent to the roster and with the team reporting for training camp on Tuesday, Philadelphia worked out seven free agents.

The team eventually signed Deon Cain out of a list that included Marcus Allen, Quinton Barrow, N’Keal Harry, DeANdre Houston-Carson, Ahofitu Maka and JaVonta Payton.
