Nigel Bradham should be on Rams’ radar as free agency approaches

The Eagles are moving on from Nigel Bradham, who could be a target for the Rams.

The Los Angeles Rams have three primary needs on their roster this offseason: Offensive line, edge rusher and inside linebacker. There are, of course, other positions that could use some attention, but those three will get the bulk of the attention – largely because starters at all of those spots are set to hit free agency.

Cory Littleton is among them, and because he’s coming off a career year, his cost is going to be high. If the Rams find out they can’t afford him, another veteran linebacker will be on the market when free agency opens on March 18.

The Eagles are declining their 2020 option on Nigel Bradham, making him a free agent next month. He’ll be 31 years old when the season begins, but Bradham can still contribute as a quality starter at inside linebacker.

He played 12 games with the Eagles last season, recording 61 tackles, one interception, five passes defensed and a 48-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. He had 287 total tackles the three years prior, earning a grade between 64.7 and 75.5 from Pro Football Focus each season he was with the Eagles.

Bradham isn’t great in coverage like Littleton is, but he does his best work against the run. At 6-foot-2, 241 pounds, he has the size to play inside linebacker in the Rams’ 3-4 scheme, especially on the strong side.

He’s been consistent and reliable throughout his career, too, playing at least 11 games in each season and never posting a year with fewer than 51 tackles. Bradham’s best season came in 2016 when he had 102 tackles (10 for a loss), an interception and two sacks.

Despite his minor struggles last year, Bradham still has the ability to put up numbers similar to those in 2020. And the best part: He’ll be significantly less expensive than Littleton.

His last contract was for $40 million over five years, or $8 million per season. That was two years ago, so there’s almost no chance he’ll top that salary on his next contract. Consequently, he could probably be had for around $5 or $6 million per year, which is a reasonable price for a starting linebacker.

If Littleton returns, Bradham wouldn’t necessarily be an option for the Rams. Sinking that much money into the linebacker position would be bad business. But Bradham should be on the team’s radar in the event that Littleton cashes in somewhere else.

Nigel Bradham to become a free agent after Eagles decline 2020 option

The Eagles are moving on from Nigel Bradham

The Philadelphia Eagles had a looming decision to make on Nigel Bradham and according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the talented linebacker will not have his option picked up and he’ll be a salary cap casualty.

The Eagles had until the end of the league year (March 17) to either pick up or decline the $10 million option on the 31-year-old linebacker.

Before the 2018 NFL season, Bradham signed a five-year, $40 million deal, with plenty of outs for the Eagles, including team options in the final three seasons.

According to Over The Cap, the Eagles save $4.5 million in cap space by declining his option. If Bradham is to return, it’ll be at a much lower rate than his $8 million per year.

Bradham’s production has dropped over the past few seasons, but he still leads the team in tackles since signing with the Eagles after leaving Buffalo as a free agent.

The Eagles could look to add a more athletic and versatile linebacker in his place, as big offseason changes loom.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to make several changes to their roster and with T.J. Edwards fully capable of playing middle linebacker in the NFL, will the Birds be willing to pay nearly $10 million for the services of Nigel Bradham?

Eagles’ LB Nigel Bradham on Orlando Scandrick always being a “snake’ and a Cowboy

Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham calls former Eagles and Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick a snake

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 17-9 on Sunday and one former NFC East cornerback was absent from the FS1 morning shows.

Orlando Scandrick has twice been a guest on FS1s Undisputed with Skip and Shannon. Each time after the Eagles suffered brutal and embarrassing losses. On Monday after the Cowboys were on the receiving end of the embarrassment, Scandrick took a pass on any postgame analysis.

On Sunday after the Birds huge win, Bo Wulf of The Athletic asked a few Eagles about Scandrick. Most of the players took the high road, choosing to focus on the win.

Everyone except, middle linebacker Nigel Bradham.

Bradham didn’t hold anything back in referring to Scandrick as a “snake” who will always be a Cowboy.

“He a Cowboy! He has always been a Cowboy. He was a snake when he got here.”

Eagles rookie LB T.J. Edwards to play a crucial role vs. the Cowboys

T.J. Edwards to play a crucial role vs. the Cowboys

The Eagles struck gold when they signed former Wisconsin Badgers star, T.J. Edwards as an undrafted free agent. Edwards name rung bells throughout the offseason and training camp and the Eagles rewarded the potential by keeping him on the 53-man roster.

After moving on from L.J. Fort and Zach Brown, Edwards has finally blossomed into an impact player, and it couldn’t come at a more urgent time.

Ezekiel Elliott has owned Philadelphia over the last five games (114 yards rushing per) and the Eagles need a player capable of stopping the Cowboys star running back at the point of attack.

Add in Kamu Grugier-Hill’s playing time declined decrease and subsequent placement on injured reserve, and you can now see that Edwards has emerged a presence on the Eagles defense.

“I would expect T.J. Edwards to get some more time, yes,” Pederson said earlier this week.

According to Pro Football Focus, Edwards grades out as one of the top linebackers in the NFL, and without constant playing time outside of special teams.

98 snaps on defense and 283 on special teams.

– 91.2 overall (#1 Eagles, #3 NFL)
– 90.8 run defense (#1 Eagles, #3 NFL)
– 81.5 tackling (#1 Eagles, #21 NFL)
– 69.5 coverage (#2 Eagles, #32 NFL)

The numbers suggest that with constant playing time, Edwards would easily be the team’s most productive linebacker and his emergence could shift Nigel Bradham outside for the final two games, although it’s been Edwards who has been playing on the outside in spot duty.

With Grugier-Hill set to become a free agent and Nigl Bradham due $8 million next season, Sunday marks a great time to see just how physical a player that Edwards can be against Elliott and the Cowboys.

Nigel Bradham’s fumble return for TD allowed Eagles to cover the spread on final play

Nigel Bradham’s return of Dwayne Haskins fumble for TD allows Eagles to cover point spread on the final play

The Philadelphia Eagles got a really good win on Sunday and for many sports bettors across the country, they delivered a bad beat as Scott Van Pelt famously likes to say.

The Eagles were favored by 5.5 over the Redskins on the road according to Bet MGM, and after a leaping touchdown by Greg Ward Jr. with 26 seconds left, the Birds were up by four and on the brink of not covering the spread.

Bettors around the country were probably rejoicing in assuming that the Eagles would play down to their competition and make it a difficult win.

With Washington setting up for what looked like a hail mary attempt, Dwayne Haskins fumbled as time expired, allowing Nigel Bradham to scoop the ball up and return it 46 yards for a touchdown.

NFL Playoff Picture: Where the Eagles’ stand in NFC East after win over the Redskins

Eagles in control of NFC East race after winning over Redskins

The Philadelphia Eagles are back atop the NFC East standings after a thrilling and frustrating victory over the Redskins on the road.

With the 37-27 win on the road, the Eagles moved to 7-7 on the season, half a game ahead of the Dallas Cowboys for first place.

With week 15 in the NFL almost completed and two weeks remaining in the 2019 regular season, the NFL playoff picture is coming together quickly based on the current NFC standings.

Here is an updated look at the NFC playoff picture and where the Eagles stand.

***
NFC East

1. Philadelphia Eagles 7-7
2. Dallas Cowboys 6-7
3. New York Giants 3-11
4. Washington Redskins 3-11

***
NFC Standings

1. San Francisco 11-2 first place, NFC West, Bye
2. Green Bay Packers 11-3 first place, NFC North, Bye
3. New Orleans Saints 10-3 first place, NFC South
4. Philadelphia Eagles 7-7 first place, NFC East
5. Seahawks 11-3 second place, NFC West
6. Vikings 9-4 second place, NFC North
7. LA Rams 8-5
8. Chicago Bears 7-7
9. Dallas Cowboys 6-7

What it all means:

If the Cowboys lose to the Rams on Sunday, the Eagles would move into sole possession of first place in the division and set up the Eagles to clinch the division title with a win over Dallas at home in Week 16 at Lincoln Financial Field.

If the Eagles were to lose to Dallas in Week 16, Philadelphia would need to beat the Giants and have the Redskins upset the Cowboys on the road in Week 17.
