Former Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick to relaunch football program at LA high school

A former Cowboys cornerback will be back on the gridiron this fall, though he’ll have a decidedly different view: from the sidelines.

Orlando Scandrick, who played in Dallas for nine seasons, has been named the new head football coach at Playa del Ray’s St. Bernard High School in Los Angeles. Scandrick is a native of Torrance, California, about 15 miles away.

Scandrick inherits a program that hasn’t played a game since an abbreviated schedule in spring of 2021 and has seen uncertain times ever since.

Former coach Manuel Douglas resigned with one game to go in that shortened 2021 season. Douglas, who had been the focus of an investigation at his previous school, gave notice to St. Bernard the morning of the season finale, citing “personal reasons.”

The school later reported that it was “cooperating fully in an investigation by federal law enforcement concerning a former employee and volunteer” of the football program.

A large number of players quit the team following Douglas’s departure. The school’s principal and president also resigned over the summer.

Ex-NFL running back Steve Broussard was hired in May as the team’s new head coach, but the school ended up cancelling the Vikings’ fall season because it couldn’t field enough players.

Now St. Bernard turns to Scandrick. The Boise State alum was a fifth-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2008. Over 125 game appearances with Dallas, he was in on 406 tackles and recorded 11.5 sacks. He also notched eight interceptions (with one returned for a touchdown) and forced seven fumbles.

Following the 2017 season, Scandrick was released upon the arrival in Dallas of defensive backs coach Kris Richard. He went on play one season with the Chiefs and part of another with the Eagles. He was released by Philadelphia in October 2019.

Now he’ll spearhead the effort to restart the Vikings varsity program; he met with parents and players in late April with hopes to recruit more St. Bernard’s students for the fall season.

“It’s a very unique challenge and very intriguing opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” the 35-year-old Scandrick told the Los Angeles Times. “We can start to rebuild a program from the ground up.”

Orlando Scandrick’s time with the Eagles was drama-filled and ended with the former NFL cornerback getting released by Philadelphia and then heading to FS1 to air out his dirty grievances.

During his first trip to the Undisputed set, Scandrick all but guaranteed that the Eagles would implode and not make the playoffs.

The Eagles made the playoffs and Scandrick was forced to apologize for his “snake” ways. Now after all the drama, Scandrick and a handful of other Eagles will cash out on the playoff bonus allocated to each team.

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia via the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, players who spent at least three weeks on an NFL team’s roster are entitled to a half playoff share if the franchise they played for reaches the postseason and they’re not currently under contract to another team in the same conference.

Players who were on the roster for at least nine weeks get a full share.

Playoff shares for division winners this season were $31,000.

Scandrick, L.J. Fort, Zach Brown and Jay Ajayi will each receive $15,500 in playoff bonus.
Scandrick and Fort played four games, while Brown and Ajayi were on the roster for six.

Mack Hollins gets a full $31,000 of the Eagles playoff bonus for spending 13 weeks on the roster.

Fort, who signed with the Ravens after being released by the Eagles, earned a starting job with Baltimore and will receive playoff shares from two teams since the Ravens also made the playoffs.

Fort will pocket $15,500 from the Eagles on top of the $31,000 he’s guaranteed so far for being on the Ravens.

Eagles hype video for game vs. Seahawks features Carli Lloyd and Trolls Orlando Scandrick

The Philadelphia Eagles are less than 24 hours away from a Wild Card matchup with the Seattle Seahawks and the team just released a dope hype video that features USWNT star Carli Lloyd and laughs at Orlando Scandrick.

Lloyd is a huge Eagles fan and during training camp, while the Birds were holding joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens, she nailed a 55-yard field goal that prompted offers to try out for NFL clubs.

Scandrick went on FS1 after the Eagles released him and ripped the Eagles, safety Malcolm Jenkins and quarterback Carson following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

At the time the Eagles were 3-4 and Scandrick questioned the leadership of the organization while picking the Cowboys to win the NFC East.

Eagles’ LB Nigel Bradham on Orlando Scandrick always being a “snake’ and a Cowboy

Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham calls former Eagles and Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick a snake

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 17-9 on Sunday and one former NFC East cornerback was absent from the FS1 morning shows.

Orlando Scandrick has twice been a guest on FS1s Undisputed with Skip and Shannon. Each time after the Eagles suffered brutal and embarrassing losses. On Monday after the Cowboys were on the receiving end of the embarrassment, Scandrick took a pass on any postgame analysis.

On Sunday after the Birds huge win, Bo Wulf of The Athletic asked a few Eagles about Scandrick. Most of the players took the high road, choosing to focus on the win.

Everyone except, middle linebacker Nigel Bradham.

Bradham didn’t hold anything back in referring to Scandrick as a “snake” who will always be a Cowboy.

“He a Cowboy! He has always been a Cowboy. He was a snake when he got here.”
