Nick Jonas brings ‘magic’ of Dexcom to life in Super Bowl 57 ad

Nick Jonas and magic feature for Dexcom at the #SuperBowl:

Linking up with Dexcom for another commercial during Super Bowl 57 was a no-brainer for Nick Jonas.

That mostly has to do with his relationship with the company as a person with type-1 diabetes. But there’s a little added bonus: the scoreboard.

Jonas, 30, made his Super Bowl ad debut in 2021 with Dexcom, which was the company’s first-ever appearance during the game and on Ad Meter. It will be his second time with them and his third overall Super Bowl commercial appearance. Combined with brothers Joe and Kevin, the family has three total Super Bowl appearances.

You do the math. Nick has.

“Exactly, I’m up three now,” he laughed.

But as a longtime advocate for diabetic awareness, that aspect holds much more weight for Jonas. Being able to have a personal message that reaches so many is priceless.

“I was just thrilled to bring awareness and conversation around diabetes management to a stage as the Super Bowl,” Jonas said. “Then to do it twice now, it’s really exciting and crazy feeling.”

“I feel very passionate about all of it, which is why I was happy they asked me to do another Super Bowl commercial,” he added.

In the ad, Jonas is highlighting Dexcom’s G7 glucose monitoring system. It reads a user’s glucose levels and synchs them with their phone. No fingersticks are required. Those advancements are something Jonas said people with diabetes might not even realize are readily available.

“That’s been one of the most incredible things for me to experience over the last 17 years,” Jonas said. “When I was first diagnosed, it was a different landscape.”

And you don’t need a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to relate to it. Sure, during pre-recording sessions and shows, it helps for Jonas to check in on his Dexcom. But there are other times that stand out for him, like during a day on the slopes snowboarding.

“On the lift, I checked my phone and saw that I was tending down and was able to make a real-time adjustment, and it made that day so much more fun and enjoyable,” Jonas explained.

In the latest Dexcom ad, which will be in the running for the top spot on Ad Meter in its 35th year, the approach of magic is used. After all, the technology makes that a seamless transition. But on-screen transitions really take the message and magic to the next level.

“I was thrilled when I first saw the creative for this commercial. I’ve always been a big fan of magic. I’ve always been enamored by it. I’ve always tried to poke holes in tricks when I see them,” Jonas said. “But there’s no holes being poked in life with diabetes and certainly with the technology I use.”

The ad is set to run during a 30-second spot in the second quarter of the Big Game.

PXG x Nick Jonas launch new apparel and accessories collaboration

Nick Jonas has teamed up with PXG to bring a collaborative collection of 15 apparel styles and nine accessory pieces.

Pop superstar, actor and golf enthusiast, Nick Jonas has teamed up with PXG to create a collaborative collection of 15 apparel styles and nine accessory pieces. The project has been in the works for more than a year and is filled with disruptive pieces such as knitted tee’s, pleated pants and slides.

With the release of the slides, PXG has entered the footwear design space for the first time and they are a far cry from something you might wear to the beach. These slides are an ode to golfers who never want to take their golf shoes off or get too far away from the game. They have a transparent midsole that lets you see non-functioning golf spikes inside the footwear. There is a golf ball-inspired textured outsole on the bottom for functional traction. Jonas admits the slides are one of his favorite pieces in the collection.

Renee Parsons is the president and executive creative director of PXG Apparel and has been working closely with Jonas to bring the collection to life. Her favorite piece is the PXG x NJ Multi Pocket Zip-Up Hybrid jacket, which is made for windy days on the course with its windbreaker hood, drawstring holders and mesh detailing. The blue accent along the zippier ties this item together.

The collection was released on Tuesday and in New York City, while promoting it, Jonas explained how he got into golf.

“When I was 10, we had a family friend growing up in Jersey who was a course ranger. He would let me come on the course with him and sit in the cart, watch him do his thing and occasionally hit some balls,” Jonas said. “When I was about 15 years-old, I started to get more serious while we were touring because we would have a full day to waste before the shows.”

Parsons is thrilled to have Jonas be apart of PXG’s first celebrity collaboration and hopes to reach new demographics and grow the game further.

“Nick really has an audience of 25 to 40 years-old. It’s a lot of females, but it’s skewing a lot older than what we originally thought,” said Parsons. “We want to make the game fun and accessible. We think Nick brings that to the collaboration. He’s young, a pop icon, well-known but he’s not necessarily known for golf and it’s unexpected.”

Is the ‘Jonas Blessing’ the opposite of the Drake Curse? Nick Jonas has a wild theory

This could be a thing!

The Drake Curse — named for athletes and teams who fall short of expectations after being supported by the Canadian rapper — is so 2019 (and also, it supposedly ended with the Toronto Raptors’ title, but tell that to the Baltimore Ravens).

Instead, we’ve got the opposite brewing: the “Jonas Blessing.”

This comes to us directly from Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. He used the Jonas Brothers Twitter account to share his new theory: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Los Angeles Dodgers star Cody Bellinger and Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton have all attended the band’s shows … and all of them have since won titles.

We’re going to keep an eye on this one after those three big winners. We’ll see if it’s merely a coincidence … or a true blessing.
