Rich Eisen intentionally avoided putting an announcer jinx on Nick Folk’s impressive kicking streak

“Notice I said it AFTER he kicked it.”

It’s not tried and true to the point of a guarantee, but almost no kicker is immune to the dreaded announcer jinx. You can be as lights-out between the uprights as you want — if a commentator says if you’ve been on a remarkable streak, it’s probably ending then and there.

As the Baltimore Ravens took on the Tennessee Titans in London, kudos to play-by-play man Rich Eisen for recognizing his power.

When Titans kicker Nick Folk lined up for a chip shot early in the first quarter, Eisen just let the play breathe. After Folk smashed the ball through, Eisen only then noted that the veteran had made 68 straight kicks under 40 yards.

Shoutout to Eisen for realizing he does indeed “affect” the game, especially kickers who have had ice in their veins lately. That’s self-awareness most football fans should appreciate.

Titans kicker Nick Folk on verge of making NFL history

Titans kicker Nick Folk has a chance to break an NFL record held by Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.

One of the best move of the Tennessee Titans’ offseason was their decision to trade for kicker Nick Folk at the conclusion of the preseason.

The Arizona product has made all 13 of his field goals, which includes three from 50-plus yards out, as well as all seven of his extra points attempts. Folk is currently tied for the fifth-most amount of points scored in the NFL with a total of 46 after five games.

The Titans’ kicker is also within range of a record held by the kicker who will be standing on the opposite sideline come Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker holds the NFL record for most field goals made from under 40 yards, making a total of 70 straight kicks from 2016 through 2020.

Folk enters Sunday’s contest having made 67 straight field goals under 40, putting him in a tie with Shayne Graham for second place all time.

Folk’s streak began back in 2017, with his last miss occurring as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is now just three successful kicks away from tying the record and four from breaking Tucker’s legendary mark of 70 straight.

And it’s a mark that certainly could be broken within the next few games if the veteran kicker stays on the trajectory he’s currently on.

Bill Belichick explains decision to go with K Chad Ryland over Nick Folk

Why did Bill Belichick choose rookie kicker Chad Ryland over Nick Folk? The Patriots coach has a short explanation.

New England Patriots rookie kicker Chad Ryland has had a difficult start to the year.

He is 4-for-8 on field goals and has struggled to find a groove. Ryland, a fourth-round draft pick, replaced Nick Folk, who is currently 13-for-13 on field goals for the Tennessee Titans.

The rookie did not make a field goal in his only attempt on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been taking criticism for his personnel moves as of late. He appeared on “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday and discussed why the organization decided to go with Ryland instead of Folk.

“I think Chad’s a quality kicker, NFL leg, and we went with the younger guy here,” said Belichick.

Electing to go with a younger player in the game of football is understandable, given the physical nature of it. However, one has to wonder if Belichick missed the mark at the kicking position.

Titans’ specialists standing out amid team’s struggles

Hey, at least the Titans’ specialists are doing their thing through three games.

Ever since he signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2022, punter Ryan Stonehouse’s powerful leg has undeniably been an asset — and a historic one, at that.

In his rookie season, the Colorado State product ended up breaking an 82-year-old record when he shattered Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh’s punt average of 51.4 yards with 53.1.

Last week, Stonehouse bombed a 74-yard punt, which tied for his career long and was his fourth since entering the league, which is the most in the NFL in that span. He also had a single-game career-high four punts placed inside the 20.

Stoney already has 25 career punts of at least 60 yards, with an NFL-high six coming this season, and a league-high 19 as a rookie. His 25 60-yarders not only lead the league since 2022, but he’s recorded five more than the next closest punter in that span.

Stonehouse, who currently ranks third in punt average (52.5) in the NFL, isn’t the only standout special teamer for the Titans at the moment.

Kicker Nick Folk has made all eight of his field goal attempts this year, tied for fifth in the NFL. With those eight field goals, Folk has made 16 straight dating back to last season, the longest flawless streak in the NFL.

As awesome as the veteran kicker has been, it’s a disappointing development that he’s been arguably the Titans’ most consistent weapon through three games.

Now, if we can only get that type of steady production from the team’s actual skill players, we might be able to see this Titans squad turn things around sooner rather than later.

Titans’ Nick Folk named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Titans kicker Nick Folk has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2.

Tennessee Titans kicker Nick Folk has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Week 2 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

While Folk only made two field goals, one of them was a game-winner from 41 yards out in overtime. The other came at the end of the first half and was good from 33 yards. Folk was also a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points.

Since the Titans traded for him before the start of the season, Folk has turned what was a scary situation at kicker to one fans don’t even think about right now.

That’s because Folk has made all seven of his field goals over two games, and he even knocked through a 50-yarder in Week 1, something this team hasn’t seen a lot of in recent years.

Adding to that, he’s put to bed concerns about his kickoff ability, with Folk achieving a touchback at a 45.5 percent clip, which is way up from his 9.1 percent last season.

Everything to know from Chargers’ loss to Titans in Week 2

To recap the Chargers’ loss to the Titans, here is everything you need to know.

The Chargers fell to the Titans in overtime, 27-24.

To recap Week 2, here is everything you need to know:

What Titans said about Week 2 win over Chargers

A look at what the Titans had to say about their Week 2 win over the Chargers on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans are winners in a regular-season game for the first time since Week 11 of last season after a thrilling 27-24 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Early on, it looked like the Titans were headed for their ninth-straight loss dating back to last season, but the offense came alive in the final four quarters and the defense did just enough to help secure the win.

The biggest story of the game was the bounce-back effort from quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who rightly took a ton of heat heat after throwing the game away in Week 1.

“I felt great coming into today,” Tannehill said. “I was able to flush what happened last week by Wednesday after I talked to you guys and have a great week of practice, got prepared and was ready to roll coming out here today.”

Keep scrolling to check out what else Tannehill and several other Titans had to say about the Week 2 win.

Titans’ winners and losers from Week 1 loss to Saints

Titans kicker Nick Folk was one of the bright spots in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Saints.

After a 2022 campaign that was filled with frustration on the offensive side of the ball, the Tennessee Titans picked up where they left off with an abysmal showing in a Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Tennessee was unable to muster up a single touchdown the entire game and despite having a much better surrounding cast than last year, quarterback Ryan Tannehill played one of the worst games of his career.

On the bright side, the defense was very good for the most part, kicker Nick Folk was as advertised in his Titans debut and the offensive line was good enough to not wreck this game.

Now, let’s dive a bit deeper and see who qualified as a winner, loser and somewhere in between following the Titans’ 16-15 loss to the Saints.

Titans’ Nick Folk bringing ‘well-rounded game’ to Tennessee

Kicker Nick Folk is bringing a ton of experience and a history of success with him to the Titans.

Following an entire offseason of trying to develop two young kickers of their own, the Tennessee Titans finally found a solution — albeit a short-term one — after they acquired 38-year-old Nick Folk via a trade with New England.

Tennessee exchanged a 2025 seventh-round pick for the former Patriots kicker who is coming off a season where he made 86.4 percent of field goal attempts (32-of-37), including an impressive 80 percent from 50-plus yards out (4-of-5)

Over his entire career, Folk has made a respectable 83 percent of his kicks (353-of-426), which has resulted in 10 separate 100-point seasons, including a league-leading 150 points back in 2021 with the Patriots.

Over his four years with New England, Folk made a whopping 89.5 percent (111-of-124) of his field goal attempts (including playoffs), making him one of the more reliable kickers in the league.

Adding to all that, Folk holds the NFL record for consecutive field goals made (64) under 50 yards. He also set the Patriots franchise mark for consecutive field goals made (36) during a streak that spanned from September 2020 through October 2021.

And, his 92.9 percent success rate during the 2020 season was the third-highest single-season field goal percentage ever by a Patriot.

Perhaps most importantly, Folk has been relatively clutch throughout his career, making a total of 12 game-winning field goals (including playoffs) since entering the league.

The Titans’ new kicker is admittedly excited to show that his success translates regardless of which uniform he’s wearing, but his first goal is to learn the faces and names of his new teammates, coaches, and staff.

“It has been great,” Folk said of his time with the Titans so far, per Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com. “I think the fit has been really good. I’ve enjoyed the guys in the locker room so far. Right now I’m trying to get to know everyone’s name — a lot of names to learn real quick, but it will be good.”

Shortly after getting told that the Patriots were going with rookie kicker Chad Ryland, Folk found out the Titans were interested, and after having a conversation with Mike Vrabel, the rest was history.

Trading for the veteran kicker wasn’t the only acquisition the team made at the position this week. On Thursday, the Titans also signed former Browns kicker Cade York to the team’s practice squad.

Despite the signing, head Coach Mike Vrabel made it clear the starting kicker job for 2023 belongs to Folk, who is a free agent after this season, and York was simply brought in to develop behind the veteran, likely with the hope he can be the long-term answer.

“Nick is our kicker,” said Vrabel. “Nick is our kicker, and we feel really good about what he has done and what he will do. We just felt like it was a good opportunity to bring Cade in here to allow him to develop and work and see where he is at… (But) Nick is our kicker.”

Folk isn’t a perfect option by any means, as his leg is slowly starting to show signs of losing that booming power he once had. However, he was definitely one of the best and most reliable options from the pool of available kickers.

The Arizona product later went on to describe what makes him a good solution for a Titans team that had a major need for a reliable leg in the kicking game.

“I just think overall, as an all-around kicker, I can play in all kinds of elements, weather, situations,” he said “I just think I have a well-rounded game that can play anywhere and am excited to be here and ready to get going.”

Barring the Titans’ kicker curse claiming another victim, Folk stands to bring some much-needed stability to a position the Titans could certainly use it at after what has been mostly a rough go of it since 2019.

Titans’ Ran Carthon talks Trevis Gipson, new kickers, more

Titans GM Ran Carthon touched on a number of topics on Thursday, including the team’s new kickers and the potential addition of Trevis Gipson.

Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon met with the media on Thursday and touched on a number of topics, including the team’s new kickers and the potential addition of edge rusher Trevis Gipson.

Gipson indicated on Wednesday night that he was going to sign with the Titans, but Carthon made it clear the two sides are still working through some things, so it’s not official yet.

However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday morning that Gipson is indeed signing with the Titans, so it appears it’s happening. Check out our article right here explaining why Gipson is such an intriguing addition for Tennessee.

Carthon also noted how Gipson was a menace against Tennessee in preseason Week 1 (he tallied a sack and eight pressures) and believes he’s a great fit for the Titans’ scheme.

In addition to Gipson, the Titans general manager talked about the team claiming former Bears cornerback Kindle Vildor via waivers.

Now, a look at what Carthon had to say about the team adding two kickers and much more.
