Former Purdue DE Nic Scourton reportedly ‘strongly considering’ Texas A&M

According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, former Purdue DE/OLB Nic Scourton is still considering the Aggies over several programs.

Former Purdue defensive end/outside linebacker Nick Scourton entered the transfer portal earlier this week. After leading the Big 10 in sacks during the 2023 season, nearly every Power 5 program needing a defensive playmaker will battle for his commitment, including Texas A&M.

New Aggies head coach Mike Elko has his work cut out for him as the pivotal 2024 offseason rolls on while the departure of veteran pass-rusher Fadil Diggs, who will follow former interim head coach Elijah Robinson to Syracuse, has left a hole in the trenches.

According to Feldman in a recent update, Nic Scourton will visit Florida State and Louisville but is still “strongly considering” visiting Missouri, Colorado, Georgia, and Texas A&M. A native of Bryan, Texas, just 10 or so minutes away from College Station, new Aggies head coach Mike Elko has a chance to bring Scourton home for his last two collegiate seasons and become an immediate contributor in 2024.

Earning a starting spot in the trenches during his 2023 sophomore season, Scourton lit up that stat sheet with 50 tackles (33 solo tackles), 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and three pass deflections on the year.

Top Big Ten edge rusher enters transfer portal

A top Big Ten edge rusher has officially entered the transfer portal.

A top Big Ten edge rusher has officially entered the transfer portal. Purdue’s Nic Scourton entered the portal on Thursday afternoon.

The edge rusher led the conference with ten sacks on the season. He also finished the year with 50 total tackles, 33 solo tackles, 15 tackles for loss and three pass deflections.

Scourton was a four-star recruit out of Bryan, Texas, in the class of 2022. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The prospect is planning visits to Florida State and Louisville. No timeline on when a decision will be made has been announced.

Big Ten sack leader hits NCAA transfer portal

One of the Big Ten’s premiere pass-rushers has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

A marquee defensive player has now become available on the transfer portal market. Sources confirmed to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic that former Purdue Boilermaker Nic Scourton is expected to enter the transfer portal this week.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive end and outside linebacker led the Big Ten Conference in sacks with 10. He also compiled 50 total tackles, including 15 for loss as well as 11 quarterback hurries in 11 games for Purdue.

His 10 sacks were the most by a Purdue player since Ryan Kerrigan had 12.5 in 2010. As a redshirt freshman, Scourton was one of head coach Ryan Walters’ biggest successes in his first season in charge.

The Bryan, Texas, native is expected to be a hot commodity in the portal. The former four-star recruit’s size, versatility, and athleticism immediately will have teams interested, especially at only 19. Scourton not only has the traits, but he has proven production, especially against top competition. He earned two sacks against Michigan, and forced fumble against Ohio State.

As for his future destination, there are a few possibilities. Scourton wasn’t heavily recruited by the top schools coming out of high school, and was considering SMU and UTSA before ultimately choosing Purdue.

After a big year in the Big Ten, it’s hard to imagine that Scourton drops down a conference. Managing Editor of Aggies Wire Cameron Ohnysty made a great connection for Scourton to Texas A&M.

With veteran DL Fadil Diggs transferring to Syracuse, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko needs another starting-caliber hybrid outside linebacker to add to the Aggies’ pass-rushing arsenal, and after receiving little interest from the Maroon & White out of high school, I can’t imagine a better fit for a player than looks more than ready for SEC play. – Ohnysty, Aggies Wire.

Makes sense enough. It will be interesting to see where Scourton decides to go as we head into the college football offseason.

One thing’s for certain for Hawkeye fans. It won’t hurt Iowa fans’ feelings to see Scourton corralling quarterbacks outside the Big Ten conference.

Former Purdue DE/OLB and Bryan, Texas native Nic Scourton has entered the transfer portal

With the news that former Purdue OLB Nic Scourton has entered the transfer portal, Texas A&M HC Mike Elko needs to get on the phone.

The transfer portal is set to close on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and even in late December, high-profile players have continued to enter their names, including former Purdue outside linebacker/defensive end Nic Scourton, who is a native of Bryan, Texas, first reported from The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Coming out of the 2022 recruiting class, Scourton surprisingly did not receive an offer from Texas A&M, choosing the Boilermakers, which, at least statically, looked like the right choice during the past two seasons.

Earning a starting spot in the trenches during his 2023 sophomore season, Scourton lit up that stat sheet with 50 tackles (33 solo tackles), 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and three pass deflections, leading the Big 10 in sacks on the year.

Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 280 pounds, Scourton has the size to line up at the 4i or 3-tech with prominent standing pass-rush ability and could utilized in twists and stunts in various packages.

Know your foe Purdue: Which Boilermakers could give Ohio State problems

Who on Purdue scares you the most #GoBucks

Let’s be honest here, as an [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] fan, the depth of [autotag]Purdue[/autotag] knowledge isn’t very high.

The Boilermakers aren’t a team that is vying for anything nationally, they have first-year head coach in [autotag]Ryan Walters[/autotag] and are currently just 2-4 on the season. What they have going for them is that the Buckeyes have not fared very well playing in West Lafayette, since 2000, Ohio State has a record of 3-5.

Not great results for the Buckeyes on the road facing a mid-tier program. The reality of the situation is that Purdue plays up when Ohio State comes to town and these are a few of the Boilers that could give the Buckeyes problems.
