WATCH: Texans CB Steven Nelson intercepts Steelers QB Kenny Pickett

Houston Texans cornerback Steven Nelson intercepted Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett in Week 4.

The Houston Texans’ secondary has taken its hits with injuries, but the unit has been nevertheless resilient.

Cornerback Steven Nelson has been arguably the most consistent element the Texans have been able to count on in the secondary, and he proved it yet again in Week 4. The nine-year pro took advantage of a deep ball from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett with 4:58 to go in the first quarter.

It wasn’t just that Nelson came up with the takeaway, but the wily veteran returned the turnover 33 yards to the Steelers’ 45-yard line.

The interception was the defensive back’s second of the season.

WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud throws TD pass to WR Nico Collins against the Steelers

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud hit receiver Nico Collins for a touchdown to build an early 7-0 lead against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

Michigan and Ohio State are the premier football programs in the Big Ten. In the NFL, the rivalry doesn’t matter, and any team with players with alumni from either program can expect uncommon results.

The Houston Texans were beneficiaries of the Michigan-Ohio State pro combination once more in Week 4 as former Buckeye quarterback C.J. Stroud found ex-Wolverine wideout Nico Collins with 8:58 to go in the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After being stifled twice before, the Texans weren’t denied by a review or a penalty as Collins grabbed his second touchdown catch of the season.

Stroud threw his fifth touchdown pass of the year.

Mack Hollins appeared to big time Desmond Ridder on an in-game high-five

Was Hollins upset with Ridder about his play?

The Atlanta Falcons seemed to be anything but normal in their game across the pond Sunday. Not only did Atlanta never get off the ground in a 23-7 loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but starting quarterback Desmond Ridder was absolutely horrendous. The first-year full-time starter struggled to get the Falcons’ offense in a rhythm, and he finished with a putrid line by completing 19-of-31 passes for 191 yards for one touchdown and two picks. Not even the Toy Story broadcast could make this performance look fun.

And, at least from afar, it appeared one Falcons teammate wasn’t entirely pleased with Ridder’s play. After the signal caller walked off the field while down 17-0 in the first half, he tried to encourage receiver Mack Hollins with a high-five. Hollins didn’t even reach his hand out and stood up, seemingly displeased with Ridder about something. (And yes, in case you were wondering, this sequence didn’t receive a Toy Story animation.)

All that to say, this wasn’t a great look for a team trying to rally from a massive deficit.

I’m not sure what’s going on behind the scenes in Atlanta or if Hollins was even upset with Ridder. It could’ve been the receiver trying to hype his quarterback in return. But the optics from a distance say something else for a quarterback that has now arguably cost the Falcons in two straight losses.

Patriots-Cowboys game day poll: Who wins on Sunday?

Who wins on Sunday? Patriots or Cowboys?

[polldaddy poll=12822298]

The New England Patriots will embark on one of the toughest road games on their 2023 schedule on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys,

Granted, the Cowboys are coming off an ugly loss to an Arizona Cardinals team that didn’t even have their starting quarterback on the field. But on paper, Dallas has one of the most impressive rosters in the NFL.

The defense looked like a juggernaut two weeks ago, and the offense could break out at any moment.

With that said, the Patriots will be coming into the game with some momentum after knocking off the New York Jets on the road in Week 3. Like the Cowboys, they are one of the best defensive teams in the league. All it takes is a decent offensive performance for them to have a shot at pulling off a major upset in Dallas.

This could finally be the week that quarterback Mac Jones and the Patriots win the big one and improve to 2-2 on the season.

WATCH: J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt embrace ahead of Texans vs. Steelers

Brothers J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt embraced ahead of the Houston Texans versus Pittsburgh Steelers matchup in Week 4 at NRG Stadium.

Although the Pittsburgh Steelers and T.J. Watt are playing spoiler to the Houston Texans and former defensive end J.J. Watt’s big day, there was an opportunity for brotherly love inside NRG Stadium.

During pregame warmups, the outside linebacker and youngest of the three Watt brothers met with his oldest brother on the sidelines. J.J. and T.J. embraced and then blended in with the ensemble Watt family β€” including former fullback Derek β€” to take pictures.

The only time the brothers Watt faced each other in a game was Week 3, 2020, at then-Heinz Field. The Steelers prevailed 28-21. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year may want an opposite outcome on the day he is to be enshrined into the Texans Ring of Honor at halftime.

Texans fantasy Week 4: Start ’em and sit ’em against the Steelers

Here is a look at the fantasy football value to be had with the Houston Texans as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

Finally, the Houston Texans get the big W β€” and against the Jacksonville Jaguars unexpectedly. Many thought the Texans would lose because of all the injuries that have been piling up for the Texans. Houston pulled it out convincingly, 37-17. Rookie C.J. Stroud was the star of the game, completing 20 passes on 30 attempts for 280 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. The young quarterback has grown every game and has shown to be a bonafide fantasy quarterback that one must start every week. Houston hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4, and it is a winnable game for the Texans. If offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik leans on Stroud, the TexansΒ will likely be 2-2. Here is this week’s lineup.

Week 4 NFL viewing guide: What’s going to be on your TV?

The Detroit Lions already played, so here are the viewing options for Sunday, October 1st

This Sunday is a weird one for Detroit Lions fans. The beloved Lions already won on Thursday night, which means they’re not on the viewing schedule for the day.

Fans looking to get their football fix do have some intriguing games today across the network broadcasts. The action kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars playing in London, a game that is broadcast on ESPN+ and not the actual network.

Of course, all games are available via the NFL+ app or the Sunday Ticket on YouTubeTV. For those who wish to watch what’s going to be on their local affiliates, here are the scheduled broadcast maps (via 506 Sports).

CBS early slate

Most of the country will get the AFC East showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. That includes all of Michigan other than the extreme southwest corner. Those unlucky souls in the South Bend-area market get to watch winless Denver and hopeless Chicago battle it out.

FOX early slate

Fans living in Michigan will need to pay attention to the local listings here, because the affiliates in south and central Michigan are showing a different game than the Detroit and West Michigan markets.

The big markets draw the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, listed in the red in the map below. The Lansing and Jackson markets will have the Minnesota Vikings/Carolina Panthers matchup on their local FOX station.

In the late afternoon window, the local FOX affiliates around most of the country will show the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots facing off. Sunday night football will highlight the Kansas City Chiefs playing the New York Jets in between Taylor Swift updates.

Texans vs. Steelers live blog: 30-6 Houston, FINAL

Follow along for all of the action as the Houston Texans take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

There will be a football game inside NRG Stadium, but much of the excitement surrounding the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers Week 4 tilt involves J.J. Watt.

The former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and face of the franchise is going into the Texans Ring of Honor at halftime. If a burgeoning team with a talented rookie quarterback can’t fill up NRG Stadium, this might at least for one afternoon.

No doubt Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt would love to spoil his big brother’s homecoming. Given the lesser Watt leads the NFL with 6.0 sacks and Houston has Austin Deculus, Geron Christian, and George Fant as tackles, it might not be far fetched.

Pregame

There aren’t too many surprises with the inactives as the Texans had to use five of those spots for injuries.

The brothers Watt were spotted embracing on the field.

First quarter

15:00 β€” The Texans get the ball first.

11:07 β€” Houston’s offense is dealing as they have driven 58 yards in seven plays down to the Steelers’ 12-yard line. However, they have to use their first timeout ahead of a second-and-9 from the 11.

10:29 β€” “I like a quarterback run here, even a draw,” Texans Radio commentator Andre Ware said. Well, that is what happened on third-and-3 from the Steelers’ 5-yard line as QB C.J. Stroud seemingly rushed for a touchdown. However, the play went under further review. Either way, Stroud picked up the first down at the 1-inch line.

10:15 β€” RG Shaq Mason commits a false start.

10:13 β€” Stroud hits RB Dameon Pierce for a 5-yard touchdown, but Mason gets dinged for ineligible man downfield to nullify the touchdown.

8:58 β€” Stroud connects with WR Nico Collins for a 2-yard touchdown. Extra point from K Ka’imi Fairbairn is good.Β Texans, 7-0

8:16 β€” QB Kenny Pickett scrambles eight yards on third-and-7 from the Steelers’ 22-yard line.

6:22 β€” Pickett sneaks for one on third-and-1 from the Steelers’ 39.

5:43 β€” DE Jerry Hughes sacks Pickett for an 8-yard loss on first-and-10 from the Steelers’ 40.

1:23 β€” Fairbairn hits a 36-yard field goal.Β Texans, 10-0

Second quarter

15:00 β€” Houston can expect a punt as the Steelers will begin the quarter facing a third-and-8 from their own 27-yard line.

14:52 β€” Although OT Austin Deculus started at left tackle, the Texans substitute OT Geron Christian.

12:13 β€” The Texans flub again in the red zone, but Fairbairn nails a 38-yard field goal.Β Texans, 13-0

10:51 β€” Houston turns the Steelers offense three-and-out again as Pickett throws incomplete on third-and-8 from their own 23.

7:09 β€” The Texans called their second timeout ahead of a fourth-and-inches from the Pittsburgh 28-yard line. The plan: Stroud throws incomplete for TE Andrew Beck, turnover on downs.

5:13 β€” On a third-and-8 from the Steelers’ 42, Pickett hits RB Jaylen Warren for seven yards.

4:26 β€” As an homage to some of the offenses J.J. Watt had to suffer with, TE Brevin Jordan commits a false start on first-and-10 from the Texans’ 20-yard line.

2:10 β€” Stroud can’t connect with Collins on third-and-5 from the Houston 45.

1:33 β€” The Texans would have had a big one. CB Shaquill Griffin intercepted Pickett at the Steelers’ 38-yard line. However, Griffin was dinged for defensive pass interference at the Pittsburgh 20-yard line.

1:24 β€” DE Jonathan Greenard sacks Pickett for a loss of four on second-and-5 from the Pittsburgh 40, compelling the Steelers to use their first timeout.

1:19 β€” The Texans get the Steelers off the field, but DT Maliek Collins commits defensive offsides on a third-and-9 from the Pittsburgh 36.

1:15 β€” Now it’s the Steelers’ turn to take a ticket as TE Pat Freiermuth commits offensive pass interference on third-and-4.

1:06 β€” On third-and-14 from the Steelers’ 31, Pickett dumps off to Freiermuth for nine yards. The Texans call their final timeout of the half.

0:04 β€” Fairbairn hits a 39-yard field goal, capping off a drive were Stroud led Houston 57 yards in five plays with no timeouts.Β Texans, 16-0

2:45 β€” Circle this one. On first-and-10 from the Houston 42, S Jalen Pitre hits Warren just as he’s about to take the handoff from Pickett, causing a fumble. Pickett falls on the ball at the 50 for an 8-yard loss.

1:58 β€” After an incomplete second down pass, Pickett hits WR George Pickens for 17 on third-and-18 from the 50. The Steelers call timeout facing a fourth-and-1 from the Houston 33.

Lions vs. Packers: What I learned from film study of Detroit’s big win

On the offensive line being back, Aaron Glenn’s morphing game plans, special teams excellence and more

Saturdays are usually reserved for college football and NFL draft evaluation, but this week’s Lions victory on Thursday night threw a curveball. A worthy curve that made the Saturday morning coffee all the more sweet…

The rewatch of Detroit’s impressive 34-20 road win in Green Bay proved a great way to start a football Saturday. Watching both the broadcast feed for a second time and the All-22 game film confirmed some initial takeaways but also fleshed out a lot more detail on just how well Dan Campbell’s Lions performed.

Here’s what I learned from the film study of Detroit’s Week 4 road win.
