New York Jets at Miami Game Preview

Why New York Jets Will Win

Miami is getting its parts back, but it’s still going to be a bit ragged after a week without the running backs in practice.

Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed are back after being out with COVID-19, but star WR Jaylen Waddle is out.

The Jet defense needs all the help it can get – stopping the run has been the biggest issue, and as is the Miami running game isn’t doing a whole lot. It hasn’t hit 100 yards in four of the last six games, and again, there’s no Waddle to worry about for the passing attack.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Miami Will Win

The Jets aren’t scoring, and the explosion continues to be missing with Elijah Moore out with covid – along with his leg injury.

And yes, the Jet run defense should catch a wee bit of a break with the Miami running game nothing amazing. And yes, no Waddle hurt.

Tua will still go off.

The Jet secondary didn’t have to deal with much of a Houston passing game, and last week New Orleans was too busy running, but in this, Tagovailoa will  spread the ball around on a secondary that doesn’t take the ball away and gets bombed on by anyone who can throw.

Tagovailoa is about to have an efficient day with help from …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Miami defense has been the star in the five-game winning streak.

It allowed just 17 points in the win over the Jets in Week 11 and held up fine despite getting thrown on. It’ll be a similar performance, except there will be more takeaways this time around.

Arizona at Detroit Game Preview

Why Arizona Will Win

After the painful loss to the Rams, the Cardinals will be well-motivated – and they’ll be on the road.

It’s one of the strangest quirks of the 2021 season. Arizona is a rock on the road, but it’s struggling at home with losses in its last three games in Glendale.

Detroit is struggling everywhere. It might have come up with a win over Minnesota a few weeks ago, but all the fun went away quickly in a blowout loss at Denver.

The Lion defense continues to give up way too many big plays through the air, the offense isn’t scoring enough – fewer than 20 in 11 of its last 12 games – and on the road, the Cardinals just don’t turn the ball over. They’re not going to provide any help.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Detroit Will Win

This is a banged up Cardinal team.

Kyler Murray was just fine against the Rams, but he’s still less than 100%. DeAndre Hopkins is out with a knee injury, James Conner is hurting with an ankle problem, and it doesn’t help that the team is traveling on a short week.

It’s possible to run on the Cardinal defensive front. It doesn’t get ripped up, but it allows a few too many good runs. Detroit isn’t too bad on the ground lately with 100 yards or more in four of the last five games.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Even with all of the aches and pains, the Cardinal offense will get moving.

Murray will get plenty of time to work and he’ll spread it around, but the team won’t get comfortable until the second half.

Detroit will hang around in this longer than Arizona might like. Jared Goff and the midrange passing game will move the chains just enough to give the fans hope for a scone straight home game, and then two straight Cardinal scoring drives will end the fun.

Carolina at Buffalo Game Preview

Why Carolina Will Win

Buffalo just won’t give the running backs the football enough to matter.

Devin Singletary will get a few carries here and there, and Matt Brieda is getting in a little work, the overall rushing production isn’t all that bad thanks to Josh Allen taking off. But now the Bills are going against a Carolina defense that’s not giving up the big plays down the field and doesn’t allow a whole ton of big runs.

Buffalo might be fantastic overall, but it lost three of its last four games, it’s getting gashed on the ground, and the Panthers have to give it a shot.

Cam Newton might not be all that sharp – he had a rough day against Atlanta – but he’s still Cam Newton. He’ll take off, Chuba Hubbard has had his moments, and the team has to keep running the clock against a defense that allowed over 200 rushing yards in two of the last four games.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Buffalo Will Win

Buffalo might be having problems, but that’s nothing compared to the issues Carolina is dealing with.

Head coach Matt Rhule is on a hot seat, the offense isn’t working, and there are way, way too many turnovers.

The Panthers have given the ball way multiple times in four of the last five games, they’re struggling to get to 300 yards, and there isn’t enough consistency. They’re relying on the pass defense to come through – the offense isn’t getting the job done.

Buffalo just dealt with New England and Tampa Bay – it’s going to come into this with a bad attitude, especially on a defense that keeps getting run over.

But …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Carolina’s defense will rise up just enough to keep this from getting ugly – for a half.

Buffalo will take over early in the third quarter with two good scoring drives, the defense will come up with multiple takeaways for the first time in weeks, and then it’s on to New England.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

New England at Indianapolis Game Preview

Why New England Will Win

Are you going to stop what’s coming?

The system is brilliant, and it was perfect for the bad weather win over Buffalo a few weeks ago.

Pound with the running game, don’t take big chances, and let the best defense in the NFL load up and stop what’s coming.

No one’s running on the Patriots – except for Tennessee, and it was still a New England win thanks to four takeaways.

The Patriot D has allowed fewer than 100 rushing yards in four of the last five games, and now Indianapolis has to deal with that.

Yeah, the Colts ran wild on the Bills. They also got to fatten up on the Jaguars Jets, and Texans over the last few weeks.

Now they have to deal with a rested New England defense. But …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Indianapolis Will Win

The Colts got two weeks off, too, and they’re one of the healthiest teams going right now.

Yeah, the schedule has been nice and soft with a whole lot of layups, but those matter in terms of stress and strain. There hasn’t been a ton of it over the last few months.

The Colts have the right makeup to do this.

They have offensive balance, they’re great at forcing mistakes, and in general they don’t turn the ball over. They’re also generating just enough pressure to matter.

More than anything else in a game like this, the Colts can hold up against the run. They’re allowing way too many bursts, but they’re also holding up well when it comes time to keeping teams out of the end zone.

Four of the last six teams haven’t been able to crack 100 rushing yards, but …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Again, there are a whole lot of easy wins on this Colt schedule lately.

They’re playing as well enough and complete enough to keep on winning, but with two weeks to prepare – and with two weeks to get healthier – New England’s system take over.

Even with Mac Jones starting to throw the ball again.

Las Vegas at Cleveland Game Preview

Why Las Vegas Will Win

It’s brutal to put a global pandemic into football analysis, but Las Vegas is catching a Cleveland that’s not only coming off a tough win over Baltimore, but it’s also dealing with a crushing bout of COVID-19.

As of this moment, over 12 players – including Baker Mayfield and Jarvis Landry – are expected to be out along with head coach Kevin Stefanski are expected to be out. Throw in an injury to Kareem Hunt – with the normal late-season bumps and bruises elsewhere – and this isn’t a fully-functional Cleveland team.

The passing game continues to be dangerous, Derek Carr is putting up monster numbers, and as long as the line can provide the time, the offense should work. However …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Cleveland Will Win

Las Vegas hasn’t exactly been sharp. It’s been a mess after all of the adversity, and now it’s not even close to being able to overcome all the mistakes, including five turnovers last week in the blowout loss to the Chiefs.

For all of the yards and big downfield plays, the Raiders aren’t scoring.

They’ve come up with fewer than 17 points in five of the last six games, and now the O has to deal with Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney, and the terrific pass rush that’s coming up with big plays in key moments on a regular basis now.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Browns have been able to step up in tough spots, but this one is a little harder than the Week 7 win over Denver.

The team is depleted.

However, Case Keenum will be just fine, the running game should still be solid, and the Raiders really are sputtering and struggling too much.

Again, Las Vegas just doesn’t score enough.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

Kansas City at Los Angeles Chargers Game Preview

Why Kansas City Will Win

All of the parts are working now.

The Chiefs scored a franchise-historic 48 points in the win over Raiders last week, and Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill had relatively quiet games. The running game was great, but Patrick Mahomes only threw for 240 yards.

It was the defense that showed up with five takeaways as part of the dominant performance, but that’s been the norm. Kansas City has allowed nine points in each of its last three games, and 17 points or fewer in seven of its last eight.

There’s a trickle-down effect.

The offense that was pressing so hard and making so many mistakes early on has been more relaxed and far more careful with the ball.

Los Angeles was air-tight in the win over the Giants, but it turned it over five times in the previous two games. Kansas City has forced 14 takeaways in its last five games.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Los Angeles Chargers Will Win

How did the Chargers do it in the Week 3 30-24 win?

Justin Herbert was great, the defense forced four takeaways, and that was enough. It can’t rely on the turnovers in this, but it can depend on Herbert coming up with another strong performance.

On the edge of the MVP talk, Herbert is not only putting up great overall numbers, but he has figured out how to win games – that wasn’t a thing for the team last year.

In this, he’s got to limit the big mistakes and he needs to rely on the running game. Austin Ekeler might be hurting with an ankle problem, but the Chargers have a decent rotation of backs too pick up the slack.

As good as the Kansas City defense has been, it will give up rushing yards to teams that give it a try.

It’s going to be more about effectiveness than bulk. If the Chargers are averaging close to five yards per carry – not a big ask against the Chiefs – 10 will take care of the rest.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

It’s the big showcase game for both teams.

Is Kansas City really ready to take over and make the AFC West its own, or can Herbert come up with something special and change up the dynamics of the playoff chase?

It’ll be a little bit of both.

Forget the Cincinnati win, the Chargers don’t force enough mistakes. Worse yet, they’re a disaster on third downs, and Mahomes is about to exploit that in a big way.

There will be one mistake when 15 tries to get too cute by half, but for the most part this will be tough, solid performance thanks to another great day from the D.

And Mahomes will be brilliant when needed to put this away.

5. Seattle at Washington

LINE: Seattle -6.5
ATS PICK: Washington
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Every once in a while you need to trust the process.

Seattle is the fun team. It’s the team with the big downfield passing game, the running game is working, and needs this to hold off Tampa Bay and Arizona in the playoff hunt.

There shouldn’t be much of a problem – the Seahawks should get in – but it could use a cushion. On the other side, Washington is probably locked in as the NFC’s four-seed because the East is so totally miserable.

However, the Giants are only one game back and get a battle with the Browns.

But that’s not why you called.

Seattle is better than Washington, and Seattle is MUCH better than a Washington Football Team with Dwayne Haskins at quarterback. However …

Haskins just wasn’t that bad before losing his gig. He wasn’t consistent, and the coaching staff seems to be trying to send a message, but he can play enough to be bay against a Seattle pass defense that’s good for giving up more 200 yards on a regular basis. It would be nice to get more than 6.5 because Alex Smith is out and Haskins is in, but that’s what it is.

And why?

Turnovers.

Here’s where you’re trusting in the process, and the trends.

Washington is on a strong four-game winning streak thanks to its run defense and takeaways. It forced eight turnovers over the last four games, and out of the six wins, five of them came in the five games when it came up with multiple takeaways.

Seattle has turned if over more than twice four times in the last eight games and lost all four.
