All of the CFN NFL Predictions

Houston at Jacksonville Game Preview

Why Houston Will Win

Jacksonville isn’t exactly a fully-functioning machine right now.

From the loss of head coach Urban Meyer to the inability to score, this has been a total disaster of a season outside of a fun trip to London and the Josh Allen on Josh Allen day against Buffalo.

Houston isn’t exactly lighting it up, but it won’t have to worry about the Jaguar passing game that hit 200 yards just once in the last six games. It won’t have to worry about a punchless running game that had its moments, but got stuffed last week against Tennessee with just eight yards. It won’t have to worry about …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Jacksonville Will Win

Houston should worry about what it’s about to get.

Is the firing of Meyer going to be a bit of a freeing moment? Is this when the team can take a collective deep breath and just go out and play?

The run defense hasn’t been that bad overall, the passing attack should have a few decent moments, and the ground game that’s been so lousy over the past few games gets a horrible Texan defensive front that’s the worst in the NFL against the run.

Helping the cause is Houston’s inability to run a lick, but ….

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Davis Mills is better than you think he is.

He’s surrounded by absolutely nothing to work with and yet he still fought the good fight last week against Seattle with over 300 yards through the air.

He’ll be fine, but it won’t be enough as Trevor Lawrence and Marvin Jones hook up for two scores and the ground attack will be steady enough to get interim head coach Darrell Bevell the win.

Cincinnati at Denver Game Preview

Why Cincinnati Will Win

Seriously, Cincinnati. What’s up?

The team looked so good in dominant performances in wins over Las Vegas and Pittsburgh, and then it didn’t show up against the Chargers and woke up too late against San Francisco.

When it’s on, though, it’s got the ability to strike quickly with one of the best passing games in the NFL – again, when it’s working.

It’s the other side, though, that should pull this off.

Denver has to run to win. It’s been great at pouring away over the last several weeks, but the Bengals are outstanding at holding up against the run – no one has pushed past 100 yards in a month. Teddy Bridgewater can throw a bit, but if there’s no ground attack, there’s a problem.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Denver Will Win

Yeah, but that running game is a thing.

The Bengals were great against the run when they went against several mediocre ground attacks, but they got hit for a good day by Cleveland. It was a Cincinnati win, but the defense still had a few problems.

Denver has the depth and the rotation to keep everyone fresh, and everything else flows from there with 140 rushing yards or more in four of the last five games.

Like it is for Cincinnati, the other side is potentially the bigger deal.

Denver’s defense is the second-best in the NFL, it doesn’t allow a ton of deep passes, and …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Both teams are weird.

Cincinnati has all the parts, but it can’t seem to put them all together on a consistent basis.

Denver has some of the parts, and when they’re not working they’re really not working, at least offensively.

The Broncos, though, have been terrific at home since the strange loss to Philadelphia. They’re going to clamp down on the Bengal running game, but they won’t be able to handle the passing attack that will be good from the start.

Cincinnati will come out of the gate strong, and it’ll carry over into the second half.

Atlanta at San Francisco Game Preview

Why Atlanta Will Win

Really? Is there a running game now?

It’s not pretty, and it’s requiring a slew of interesting parts being thrown together to make it all happen, but all of a sudden the Falcons are running well.

Cordarrelle Patterson, Mike Davis, and a sprinkling of other backs like Wayne Gallman and Qadree Ollison are making it all go for over 100 yards in four of the last five games.

The San Francisco defense as a whole hasn’t been all that miserable, and it’s been good against the run lately, but it can be pounded on by teams that commit to it.

The Falcons have kept fighting their way through a tough season with two wins in the last three games, but …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why San Francisco Will Win

San Francisco isn’t Jacksonville or Carolina.

The 49ers bounced back after their weird performance against Seattle with a great game – at least for about 50 minutes – against Cincinnati.

They’ve won four of their last five games and five of their last seven with a steady offense, a D that keeps taking the ball away, and Deebo Samuel becoming a special weapon.

Atlanta has to force takeaways to pull this off. San Francisco is 1-5 when turning it over multiple times – the one win was against Detroit – and the Falcon D hasn’t forced more than one turnover in a game for three weeks.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta is plucky, but it doesn’t have the explosion to keep up.

Matt Ryan has struggled without Calvin Ridley and a good group of receivers to help the cause – and throw in the lack of steady pass protection, too.

San Francisco will be balanced against the rocky Falcon defense – and the 49er secondary will be great this week – to keep the momentum rolling.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

Seattle at Los Angeles Rams Game Preview

Why Seattle Will Win

Just when it seemed like the season was totally lost, Seattle came up with two great offensive performances to make everything interesting.

What’s the difference in the two-game winning streak? The running game. Rashaad Penny went off on Houston, the ground game rumbled on San Francisco, and it all has to keep going against a Los Angeles run defense that got a lot better over the second half of the season.

As rough as the Seattle defense has been, it’s been good on third downs and hasn’t been bad against the run over the last month. But …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Los Angeles Rams Will Win

The Seahawk secondary has been torched.

Seattle doesn’t give up a whole lot of big rushing yards, but it gives up a lot of little ones.

It’s only giving up 3.8 yards per carry, but teams are still able to pound away enough to get by. After that starts to work, then teams start to throw and throw some more on a secondary that gives up the most yards than any in the NFL.

Matthew Stafford should be able to bomb away and take plenty of chances down the field – the Seahawks have allowed over 200 passing yards in every game – HOWEVER …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Do the Rams have anyone around?

The game was moved to Tuesday night with 25 players – and potentially counting – expected to be out with covid problems. Seattle might have a whole slew of issues, but it’s starting to rise up at the right time and LA is missing way too much depth. Fortunately, though, for the Rams, there aren’t a ton of losses among the starters – at least at the moment.

Getting the extra time in what would’ve been a short week will help, but there are just too many missing parts.

Green Bay at Baltimore Game Preview

Why Green Bay Will Win

Lamar Jackson is far less than 100% with an ankle injury that’s keeping him out of the practice mix this week. He’s trying, but he wasn’t right after getting rolled up in the loss to Cleveland, and he’s not going to be his normal running self if he can go.

Yes, the Baltimore run defense has been amazing – it should hold up and stuff Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon – but the secondary has been ripped apart too easily.

Even Cleveland was able to throw for over 400 combined yards in the two games over the last three weeks.

The Ravens have the second-worst pass defense in the NFL for a group that just doesn’t take the ball away enough. After all the craziness and issues with Aaron Rodgers, the offense picked itself back up with huge explosions over the last three games.

Points-wise, Green Bay has improved in each of the last five games. The running game was fine, but that’s not needed here – Rodgers and his receivers are in tune.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Baltimore Will Win

The Ravens might be struggling against the better passing games, but the defense isn’t giving up a whole lot of points. The 22 allowed against the Browns last week were the most given up in five games – they’ve allowed fewer than 20 in four of the last five games and in five of the last seven.

Can the road game aspect matter? Green Bay has been a rock at home – it has yet to lose at Lambeau – but it lost its last two on the road. Baltimore might be banged up, but after going on the road for four games in five weeks its’ going to be more than happy to be back.

With Jackson hurting, the baks should be able to take over more of the work, and again, the defense might fit what the Packers do.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Ravens will need to get into a shootout against Rodgers and company, and it’s not going to happen. Jackson’s ankle is a problem, but the pass defense is going to be a bigger issue.

Baltimore allowed 220 passing yards or more in four of the last five games, and it’s going to get hammered for 300.

Rodgers has thrown for 280 or more in each of the last four games and 300 or more in the last three. He’ll be great again – even with his funky toe.

New Orleans at Tampa Bay Game Preview

Why New Orleans Will Win

The running game has its parts again.

Alvin Kamara looked like Alvin Kamara again in the win over the Jets. Taysom Hill is running like Taysom Hill is supposed to, and the offense running for over 200 yards is going to be the mode of transportation if this is going to turn around.

The defense continues to be fantastic against the run. The pass D hasn’t been bad, but the defensive front is the star allowing fewer than four yards per carry. With Leonard Fournette a bit banged up, the already ultra-reliant Buccaneer passing game will have to throw even more.

Boo hoo, it’s Tom Brady – it’s going to be okay – but Tampa Bay ran for for just 71 yards in the first meeting with the Saints, and lost.

New Orleans has a regular season hex on the Bucs, but …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Tampa Bay Will Win

This isn’t the New Orleans team it’s supposed to be.

Head coach Sean Payton is in the covid protocol, there really isn’t much to the passing attack with Hill under center – good yards against Dallas aside – and Tampa Bay isn’t the New York Jets.

In the first meeting, Brady threw for 350 yards but the three turnovers by the O were a killer. That was an aberration on all counts.

Tampa Bay doesn’t have a big turnover problem, New Orleans doesn’t force enough takeaways, and the secondary is about to be hit hard – mainly because this is going to be a ticked off offense looking to prove it can roll through this group. And …

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Tampa Bay will exorcise its Week 8 demons.

The run defense will load up and make Hill try to be a passer, Brady will spread the ball around quickly and won’t take a whole lot of chances, and it’ll be a fifth-straight win even tough Hill and Kamara will combine for over 150 rushing yards.

It’ll be fun.

Minnesota at Chicago Game Preview

Why Minnesota Will Win

This isn’t exactly a smoothly running Chicago Bears football machine.

It had a little bit of fun for a while in the first half against Green Bay, but it was ugly after that with the defense melting down, the offense struggling to keep up, and with a seventh loss in eight games – the lone win came against Detroit.

Justin Fields is doing what he can through banged up ribs, but the passing game is bad, the run defense has been worse, and now the Bears get to deal with a Minnesota team that might have found its groove again if Dalvin Cook can come close to repeating his massive performance in the win over the Steelers.

That’s probably not going to happen, but Minnesota’s passing game will happily take over.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Chicago Will Win

Minnesota is weird.

It came up with a fun overtime win over the Chargers on the road, but for the most part it’s been lousy away from US Bank – it lost its last two road games, including to the Lions.

Minnesota is far better than Chicago. It has one of the NFL’s most dangerous passing games, Cook is amazing, and even the defense has its moments in key spots. It’s also got the bizarre ability to keep both teams in EVERY game.

The Viking defense gets gouged by big running plays, and the Bears have the backfield to take advantage of that – they’re going to hit over 100 yards.
NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Chicago should be able to hang around. The running game will work, Fields will take off enough to matter, and the defense that got owned once again by Aaron Rodgers should be able to hold on enough to make this a game in the fourth.

And then Minnesota will win. Chicago has bigger meltdown issues than the Vikings do.

Tennessee at Pittsburgh Game Preview

Why Tennessee Will Win

The Tennessee run defense should load up against Najee Harris and the Pittsburgh ground game, and good things aren’t happening when Ben Roethlisberger has to come through.

The Titans have struggled offensively, but they were able to hold the great New England running game in check with just over 100 yards – it was the only time in the last eight games the D allowed over 100.

Roethlisberger was great in the comeback attempt against Minnesota, and the yards have been there, but the consistency of the offense only comes through when that ground attack works.

The Steelers have the second-worst ground attack in the NFL.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Pittsburgh Will Win

Yeah, Roethlisberger has been a bit better than he’s getting credit for.

He might need to crank up the big throws, and he doesn’t have the foot quickness in the pocket anymore, but he’s not throwing picks and for all the screaming, he’s good for well over 200 yards per game when he’s able to get on the field.

He should be able to produce against a Titan defense that looked great against the Jacksonvilles and Houstons of the world, but isn’t anything special against the better teams.

The real key for the Steelers, though, is the defensive side. It has to hold up against a running game that still finds ways to keep things moving without Derrick Henry.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

The Titans stopped turning the ball over – after doing it nine times against Houston and New England – and everything went just fine in the win over the Jaguars.

It’s desperation time for the Steelers at home. No, the big downfield plays aren’t going to be there for Roethlisberger, but the offense will do just enough keep things moving.

The Titan offense will stall too often. The passing game won’t work when it has to.

Washington at Philadelphia Game Preview

Why Washington Will Win

Okay, so how can the Football Team possibly pull this off?

It starts with grinding and grinding and grinding. The passing game is going to be rough – to be fair – but if everything is a go for some of the main men, Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic can combine forces to get a bulk of the work in a variety of ways.

The Philadelphia defense will load up against the run, but as long as the Football Team can somehow control the clock and the tempo, it should be able to shorten the game.

On the other side, the Washington run defense should be able to hold up against whatever the Eagles are about to use among their backs, but …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why Philadelphia Will Win

Garrett Gilbert.

Washington starter Taylor Heinicke is out in the covid-19 protocol, and Kyle Allen is a 50/50 call depending on if he tests negative by the time Tuesday comes around.

The extra time off should help Jalen Hurts get closer to ready. Gardner Minshew might have been great against the Jets, but the O should have Hurts back from his ankle injury.

Usually the Washington defensive front is a rock against the run, but like the offensive backfield, the defensive front is in bad shape, too. The Eagles should be able to blast away.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Washington has over 20 players on the virus list. Philadelphia isn’t going to be anything special against the depleted team, but in the first to two meetings – these two go at it in Philadelphia the day after Christmas.

Dallas at New York Giants Game Preview

Why Dallas Will Win

The Dallas defense is rising up and rolling lately – relatively speaking – after getting ripped up by the Raiders a few weeks ago, and it’s not just the Micah Parsons show.

The Cowboys forced four takeaways in each of their last two games and they’ve been okay against the run. They’re not a rock, but they’re not getting gashed.

The Giants might have been able to run a bit in their loss to the Chargers last week, but they’re not doing anything well on a consistent basis if the defense isn’t giving the offense a whole lot of good opportunities.

Daniel Jones is still hurting, Mike Glennon is Mike Glennon, and the Giant offense isn’t going to push past 20 points.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 15

Why New York Giants Will Win

Do the Cowboys have enough healthy backs?

Tony Pollard is still questionable at very, very best with a foot injury, Ezekiel Elliott is still on a bit of a pitch count with his knee problem, and that means it might be Corey Clement or bust for stretches against a run defense that’s had a few nice moments over the last several weeks.

The Giants need the Cowboys to go into one of their funks.

Whether it was against the Broncos, or the Raiders, or the the Chiefs, Dallas has a way of not playing up to its full capabilities at times.

This hasn’t been the most consistent of Dallas teams, and the Giants just need to hang around at home as long as possible.

NFL Week 15 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

It’s not going to be the prettiest of games.

Dallas will be balanced, Dak Prescott will be fine when he has to be, and the Giants won’t be able to take advantage of the opportunities they’ll have to push ahead.

This will be a business-like performance with one big deep play to CeeDee Lamb to add a wee bit of flash.
