Jaguars fall to 1-6 after an embarrassing loss to Seattle: Here are the reactions from Twitter

The Jaguars came out of the bye week super sluggish against Seattle and the people on Twitter didn’t hold back in terms of their thoughts on Sunday’s embarrassing loss.

The Jacksonville Jaguars winning ways have come to a short end.

After securing a win in London against the Miami Dolphins in Week 6, the Jaguars were brought quickly back down to earth as they suffered a blowout defeat against the Seattle Seahawks by the score of 31-7. The game featured backup quarterback Geno Smith making his first start since 2016 and earning his first win since 2014. Starting quarterback Russell Wilson was out with an injured finger, and the Jags could not take advantage of the new quarterback situation.

The loss keeps the Jags in third place, just ahead of the 1-6 Houston Texans in the AFC South standings. Things will not get any easier as they will face the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills in TIAA Bank Field.

While the high of the Jaguars’ London victory has worn off, here are the Twitter reactions from the Jaguars and Seahawks Week 8 matchup:

Jags Week 8 Player of Game vs. Seahawks: DE/LB Josh Allen

Josh Allen has been a machine when it comes to rushing the passer coming into this week, and he continued that trend Sunday by garnering two sacks.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars defense has largely failed to stifle opposing defenses, allowing the second-most yards per game of any time, one player has stood out from the rest in the last few weeks. That player is Jags defensive end, Josh Allen.

Many looked to Allen to lead this defense in 2021. Early on, he struggled to find his footing coming off of a disappointing 2020 season that ended in a knee injury. In the last three games, though, Allen looks better than ever. While he might not be earning awards statistically, his presence has no doubt been felt.

According to Next Gen Stats, Allen was third in pass rush win rate among all edge rushers in Weeks 5 and 6. If I had to guess, he might be either first or second after his game against the Seahawks.

Allen got off to a fast start against Seattle and kept the heat on high, breathing down the neck of quarterback Geno Smith the entire game. Heading into the game, Seattle’s tackles had allowed 18 pressures over their last three games, and Allen came prepared to take advantage.

Allen finished the game with six total tackles, four of which were tackles for loss. He also had his first multi-sack game of the year, notching two in the game, bringing his season total to 4.5. As a result, he’s earned the nod for player of the game Week 8.

Allen has been the defense’s sole bright spot, while the secondary and interior pass rush is struggling mightily to slow down offenses. Coach Urban Meyer noted this earlier this week, pointing out Allen’s and Dawuane Smoot’s high level of play.

If this team wants to have any shot to win, the rest of the defense will have to raise their level of play to match that of their star pass rusher. Allen is showing up and showing out week after week, but will the rest of the team step up?

Jaguars Week 8 inactives vs. Seahawks

The Jags only listed three players as inactive this week in CB Chris Claybrooks, TE Jacob Hollister, and pass-rusher Jordan Smith.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released its list of inactives for their game against Seattle and it only contained four players. Those players were cornerback Chris Claybrooks, tight end Jacob Hollister, and rookie pass-rusher Jordan Smith.

Chris Claybrooks’ absence seems to indicate that starting rookie cornerback Tyson Campbell will make his return from a toe injury that has held him out since after the Jags’ Week 4 game against Cincinnati. Still, without Claybrooks, the Jags would only have four corners active between Campbell, Shaquill Griffin, Tre Herndon, and Nevin Lawson.

The decision to make Hollister inactive comes as a bit of a surprise, but the Jags still have a great deal of versatility without him. For blocking purposes, they have veteran Chris Manhertz and Luke Farrell still active, while Dan Arnold will likely be utilized more for receiving purposes.

As for Smith, he has yet to be active this season. It would appear the team feels he has some more developing to do, so his debut will be put on hold for another week.

Seattle listed six players on their inactives list (Russell Wilson isn’t included because he’s on injured reserve). That list is as follows, according to the Seahawks Wire and several other outlets:

S Marquise Blair
DL LJ Collier
OT Stone Forsythe
CB Bless Austin
TE Tyler Mabry
OL Dakoda Shepley

Jaguars vs. Seahawks: 3 bold predictions for Week 8’s game

With the Jags set to take on the Seahawks today, we came up with three bold predictions that we could see happening as they attempt to string together their first win streak since 2019.

A lot of weight has been lifted off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ shoulders now that they’ve gotten their first win of the season, but all fans would agree that they need to ride that momentum and continue where they left off Week 6. To do that, they will have to beat the Seattle Seahawks on their home turf after a long trip across the nation.

With just double the number of wins the Jags have under their belts, Seattle is in desperation mode as they know falling to 2-6 will likely prevent them from making the playoffs. However, with the Jags coming off their bye week in addition to a Week 6 win, they could be a scrappy bunch for the Seahawks and make this battle an interesting one.

All of that said, here are three bold predictions we have for the Jags who will be looking for their first win streak since 2019:

Jags remain at No. 28 spot in Week 8 power rankings

The Jags remained at the No. 28 spot of USA TODAY’s power rankings after not playing last week.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t take the field for a game this week, it didn’t effect their positioning on USA TODAY’s power rankings. They remained at the No. 28 spot and the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and Houston Texans were behind them, respectively.

Here is what USA TODAY’s Nate Davis had to say this week about the Cardiac Cats.

28. Jaguars (28): Lawrence seems to be quietly figuring out pro game, completing 66.3% of his passes and posting 93.8 QB rating over his past three outings. A date with Seattle’s secondary should keep the arrow trending up.

Davis is right about Lawrence getting better by the week and it mostly started during Week 4’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition to the aforementioned stats, he’s also cut down on his interceptions and has only thrown one since battling Cincinnati.

With plenty momentum by his side, and win No. 1 under his belt, Lawrence will go into this week with a lot of momentum. Maybe that could lead to a win against Seattle and a higher slot on Week 9’s power rankings.

As for the rest of the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans were ranked sixth and the Indianapolis Colts were ranked No. 17.
