WATCH: Panthers will reportedly look to trade Cam Newton in March when he’s healthy

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was asked in a radio interview about quarterback Cam Newton fitting into new head coach Matt Rhule and Brady’s system.

The Panthers new regime added LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady as its offensive coordinator earlier this week.

After the Tuesday announcement, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was asked in a radio interview about quarterback Cam Newton fitting into new head coach Matt Rhule and Brady’s system. Rapoport made it clear that he didn’t see it happening … but not for lack of ability, rather lack of opportunity.

“My belief, my understanding, is that the Panthers will look to trade Cam Newton when he is healthy,” Rapoport said. “We don’t know for sure when he’s going to be healthy. He had surgery with hopes of being healthy in March. That is the goal, for him to be healthy then and for them to seek a trade with him regardless.”

30-year-old Newton’s Lisfranc injury ended his 2019 season, he underwent surgery on that left foot in December. Given the contract situation, Newton is only playing for $18 million dollars in 2020 if he stays in the current contract with the panthers as things stand. Rapoport says he sees the franchise having a hard time re-upping Newton’s contract and that the Panthers will likely start new.

While it’s not an earth-shattering report, it does indicate that things in Charlotte are heading the direction many suspected during the season that they might.

WATCH: Mike McCarthy reportedly adding special teams guru John ‘Bones’ Fassel

The Mike McCarthy era is underway in Dallas and the new Cowboys coach is already beginning to get his assistants put in place.

The Mike McCarthy era is underway in Dallas and the new Cowboys coach is already beginning to get his assistants put in place.

NFL Network reported late Monday the Cowboys will hire John ‘Bones’ Fassel as their special team’s coordinator. Fassel’s contract with the Rams was up at the end of this season.

The 45-year-old first worked as the special team’s coordinator for the Raiders from 2008 until 2011, then he joined the Rams in St. Louis for the 2012 season. Making the move with the franchise to LA, Fassel served as interim head coach at the end of the 2016 season before Sean McVay became the head coach leading into 2017.

Six of Fassel’s special team’s units since 2008 rank in the NFL’s top seven, including five of Fassel’s last seven seasons being in the top quarter of the league.

In 2016 and ’17, the Rams special teams units ranked No. 3 and No. 2 in the league, respectively.

Bones will no doubt be just what the Cowboys need as Dallas hasn’t had a special teams unit rank in the NFL’s Top 5 since 1998.

Fassel likes a good fake and coaches up units that know how to execute those, which is always fun, too.

Eagles’ Carson Wentz rises to No. 9 in latest NFL Network QB Power Index

Eagles’ Carson Wentz rises to No. 9 in latest NFL Network QB Power Index

Carson Wentz has taken his game to new heights over the past month and his play has gotten the attention of analysts over at the NFL Network.

In a recent quarterback power index ranking, the Eagles star signal-caller moved up 3 spots, back into the top-10 of the NFL Network’s quarterback power index.

Wentz came in at No. 9, up three spots from the previous ranking.

RANK No. 9

Carson Wentz

Individual Rank: Bhanpuri: 9 | Blair: 10 | Filice: 9 | Parr: 10

2019 stats: 15 games | 64.4 pct | 3,750 pass yds | 6.6 ypa | 26 pass TD | 7 INT | 228 rush yds | 1 rush TD | 7 fumbles lost

Blair: Against the Cowboys, Wentz put together the kind of performance that could help define his NFL tenure, completing a season-high 77.5 percent of his throws while pushing Philly to a high-stakes, late-season win over a division rival that never really seemed that close. There’s one more game to go, but at this point, this December has been one of Wentz’s best months ever, based on his completion rate (68.2 percent, third-best month of his career), yards-per-game mark (305, second-best month of his career), TD-to-INT ratio (9:1, second-best month of his career) and passer rating (101.7, sixth-best month of his career). After missing out on Philly’s last two improbable late-season runs, Wentz seems to be making up for lost time. We are team-agnostic at the QB Index, but the idea of getting to finally see Wentz in the playoffs is tantalizing.

Wentz landed ahead of Atlant’s Matt Ryan, and behind Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodgers. Ryan Tannehill and Deshaun Watson were tied at No. 5, while Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson rounded out the top-4.

WATCH: Marshawn Lynch heads to Seattle to discuss possible Seahawks return

Per reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, former Seahawk Marshawn Lynch is heading to Seattle to meet with the team about a return

The Seattle Seahawks are in desperate need of a running back after losing both Chris Carson (hip) and C.J. Prosise (broken arm) for the rest of the season Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

So, per reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, former Seahawk Marshawn Lynch is heading to Seattle to meet with the team about a return:

Mike Garafolo reported on Twitter: “The #Seahawks are badly in need of RB help and would welcome the chat about a return. We’ll see where this goes today.”

Lynch hasn’t suited up since October 2018, when he suffered a groin injury with the Oakland Raiders. Beast Mode was a fan favorite with the Seahawks, helping the franchise to its first-ever Super Bowl championship and racking up four of his five career Pro Bowl nods during his six seasons there.

Seattle Times reporter Bob Condotta says the team is likely to sign at least two running backs, and that C.J. Anderson and Robert Turbin are also in the mix.
