Dan Orlovsky on what the Seahawks offense does as well as anyone

Watch: Dan Orlovsky breaks down a couple things the Seahawks offense does as well as any team, including how they use tight ends.

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has his flaws as a play-caller. For the third year in a row Seattle has the worst screen attack in the league, there are far too many runs on first down and third down in general has been a disappointment.

All that being said, he deserves credit where credit is due. Heading into Week 6 the team ranks just outside the top five in points scored per game in the league. One big reason why is how effective they’ve been in 12 personnel – where they have the highest EPA/play in the NFL.

Earlier this week on NFL Live, ESPN analyst and former pro quarterback Dan Orlovsky broke down a couple things this offense does as well as any team, including how they use tight ends. Watch.

Dan Orlovsky: Jaguars offense can go ‘punch for punch’ with Chiefs

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky thinks the sky is the limit for the Jaguars offense if Calvin Ridley is still the player he used to be.

Former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks the Jacksonville Jaguars need to invest in offensive lineman during the 2023 NFL Draft. But that deficiency aside, he’s awfully excited about the team will be able to do on offense next season.

“If Calvin Ridley is what Calvin Ridley was before the suspension, we’re talking about an offense that can go punch for punch with Kansas City, with Buffalo, with Miami. He’s that talented,” Orlovsky said Monday on an episode of NFL Live.

“[Ridley]’s going to make Christian Kirk’s job so much easier. Evan Engram is going to only be elevated. And we will see Travis Etienne have some of those lighter boxes and being able to run versus more of a numbers advantage. So his performance is a huge part of this conversation.”

During the NFL Live segment about the Jaguars, Orlovsky and two other panelists, Mina Kimes and Matt Miller, all had different opinions about what the team should do with the 24th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

While Orlovsky advocated for improved protection of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Kimes said the Jaguars should target a cornerback. Miller highlighted the team’s pass rushing need and said that Clemson defensive lineman Bryan Bresee would be a perfect fit in Jacksonville.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes: ‘Kyle Hamilton is the best player in the draft’

Pretty strong words regarding the former Notre Dame safety.

It’s a shame that Kyle Hamilton suffered an injury ended his final season at Notre Dame prematurely. That robbed Irish fans of a few more opportunities to see him in gold and blue, and who knows if the Fiesta Bowl would have turned out differently had he suited up for it? Even so, people have not soured on his NFL prospects one bit. In fact, when ESPN’s “NFL Live” did a broadcast from the NFL Scouting Combine, analyst Mina Kimes gave Hamilton the strongest vote of confidence she could:

Kimes’ reasoning is sound. At a time when safeties are being asked to do more than they ever have, Hamilton has answered the call and much more. The idea of any rebuilding NFL defense reconstructing its entire unit around him has to make any Irish fan giddy. He might not be doing it in South Bend anymore, but that won’t make the fan base love him any less.

Former Lions’ QB Dan Orlovsky to be part of ESPN’s ‘NFL Live’ relaunch

Former Detroit Lions’ quarterback Dan Orlovsky is returning to ESPN’s “NFL Live” when it relaunches in August.

Former Detroit Lions’ quarterback Dan Orlovsky is returning to ESPN’s “NFL Live” when it relaunches in August.

Originally drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft, he left the team following the 2008 season, before rejoining the team in 2014 where he backed up Matthew Stafford for the next three seasons.

In October of 2017, Orlovsky retired from the NFL. Soon after, Orlovsky began breaking down videos on Twitter, explaining the nuances of NFL offenses and by 2018 he was hired by ESPN as an analyst.

Orlovsky began at ESPN in a variety of roles, eventually landing a permanent spot as a color commentator for college games on ESPN and ABC — a position he will continue to hold — as well as spots on several NFL themed platforms, including “NFL Live”.

On Tuesday, ESPN released the following statement:

“ESPN will relaunch NFL Live, the year-round weekday NFL news and information show, in August with new host Laura Rutledge and a consistent roster of daily analysts that features Marcus Spears, Dan Orlovsky, Keyshawn Johnson and Mina Kimes, who moves into a new NFL analyst role.”

“The kickoff of the 2020 NFL season presents an exciting opportunity to reimagine NFL Live with a new commentator team that brings a wealth of football intelligence and a built in chemistry,” said Seth Markman, ESPN vice president, production. “Laura, Marcus, Dan, Mina and Keyshawn have all excelled in their respective roles across ESPN platforms – and have already worked closely together. The daily conversations they will have about the NFL is something we hope fans will really learn from and enjoy.”

On behalf of Lions Wire, we offer our congratulations to Orlovsky and look forward to continuing to see him on television.
