One more time: Watch Bills QB Josh Allen’s MVP acceptance speech

Josh Allen cemented his spot in NFL history by winning the MVP award at the NFL Honors this week.

Although the Buffalo Bills fell short of the Super Bowl, they received a small silver lining as their 2018 first-round draft pick became just the third Bills player in the Super Bowl era to win the award.

Allen had plenty of people to thank, including his family, fiancé, and the entire Bills organization. His outro, “Be good, do good, God bless and go Bills”, is a phrase that will live on in Western New York for years to come.

Brian Flores finishes second in Assistant Coach Of the Year voting

Although Brian Flores didn’t win the NFL’s Assistant Coach Of the Year award, he came in second, leading third-place by a wide margin.

Kevin O’Connell won the NFL’s Coach Of the Year award on Thursday night. Although Brian Flores was eligible for Assistant Coach Of the Year, he never had a chance of winning the award.

Flores finished second in voting, but the gap between him and Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson wasn’t too wide. Voting was conducted on a 10-5-3-2-1 basis, meaning a first-place vote received ten points, a second-place vote received five points, etc.

Johnson finished with 364 points, with Flores finishing a distant second with 143. The Lions’ coordinator received 29 of 50 first-place votes. Flores finished with three first-place votes.

However, Flores received 25 second and third-place votes, giving him a comfortable lead on Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who finished with 110 points.

This could lead to Flores winning the award next year, as Johnson and Glenn have been hired as head coaches. Winning the award would make it difficult for teams to continue bypassing Flores for a head coaching job.

Which Chargers received votes for awards at NFL Honors?

J.K. Dobbins was the only finalist for a major awards, but there were other Chargers players and coaches who received votes.

The Chargers had one player who was a finalist for one of the major awards on Thursday night at NFL Honors.

Running back J.K. Dobbins finished second in Comeback Player of the Year voting behind Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Dobbins received three first-place votes.

Dobbins was the only finalist, but some other players and coaches did receive votes following the 2024 season.

Here’s a quick look at the Chargers receiving votes for major awards.

Most Valuable Player of the Year

Quarterback Justin Herbert received three fourth-place votes. Bills QB Josh Allen was the winner.

Comeback Player of the Year

Herbert received one third-place vote, one fourth-place vote and two fifth-place votes.

Assistant Coach of the Year

Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter received two second-place votes, five third-place votes and two fifth-place votes. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was the winner.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Offensive tackle Joe Alt received two third-place votes and two fifth-place votes. Wide receiver Ladd McConkey got two fourth-place votes and one fifth-place vote. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was the winner.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Cornerback Tarheeb Still received one first-place vote, three third-place votes, two fourth-place votes and four fifth-place votes. Rams edge rusher Jared Verse was the winner.

Coach of the Year

Head coach Jim Harbaugh received three second-place votes, three third-place votes, 12 fourth-place votes and 11 fifth-place votes. Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell was the winner.

One CPOTY voter ranked Russell Wilson over Joe Burrow

The voting ballots have been released and they are…interesting.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow came away with the Comeback Player of the Year award this week, his second time winning it.

In a refreshing twist, the actual votes from each person involved in the process went public, too.

And while Burrow wound up winning the award, what’s notable is where some dismissed his season while voting for others.

One notable example? The Athletic’s Dianna Russini ranked Burrow third, putting Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson over him on the ballot.

While Darnold’s comeback is unquestioned, the presence of Wilson on there — the only vote for Wilson on any ballot — will raise some eyebrows.

Burrow had an MVP-like season after coming back from a season-ending wrist injury on his throwing arm, pacing the league in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43) with just nine interceptions.

Wilson, in his first year with the Steelers, appeared in 11 games, throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns against five interceptions.

Overall, Burrow appeared worse than third place on just a handful of ballots. He was outright omitted from Tony Dungy’s top five — Sam Darnold, J.K. Dobbins, Nick Chubb, Kirk Cousins and Tim Patrick. Ditto for Diante Lee and Adam Schein.

Here’s a quick look at the Packers receiving votes for major awards in 2024:

Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark was the team’s finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

How Lions fared in NFL Honors voting

How Lions fared in NFL Honors voting, including Jared Goff, Dan Campbell and Kerby Joseph

The biggest awards and honors were handed out Thursday during NFL Honors New Orleans. The Lions were well-represented throughout the honors and the voting, from winners to getting a vote or two. Here’s a quick rundown of how the Lions did in the various categories.

Former offensive coordinator and now Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson easily won the award for Assistant Coach of the Year. Former defensive coordinator and now New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn finished third in voting.

Safety Kerby Joseph finished sixth in voting for Defensive Player of the Year (won by Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II), just missing out on being named a finalist. He finished just three points behind Eagles linebacker Zack Baun (63-60). Joseph did received a first-place vote from Doug Farrar of Athlon Sports (and formerly of Touchdown Wire).

Two Lions wide receivers received votes for Comeback Player of Year, which was won by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Tim Patrick, perhaps surprisingly, saw three first-place votes (Rich Gannon, Mark Craig, Bruce Murray) and Jameson Williams received a fourth-place vote.

Four Lions players received votes for Offensive Player of the Year, won by Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Leading the way was running back Jahmyr Gibbs (one second-place vote, six 4th and one 5th). Quarterback Jared Goff had a 4th and a 5th, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell each had two fifth-place votes.

Head coach Dan Campbell fell short of winning Coach of the Year. He had 19 of the 50 first-place votes, but Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell won the award thanks to receiving 25 first-place votes.

Goff was also in the running for MVP, finishing fifth in voting. In a close vote, Bills quarterback Josh Allen (27 first-place votes, 383 total points) edged out Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (23 first-place votes, 362 points) to take home his first career MVP award.

Snoop Dogg had a hilarious line about Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

What Snoop Dogg said about Jayden Daniels.

It’s customary for every award show that the host spends the first few minutes roasting those in the audience. That happened during Thursday’s NFL Honors show, with the legendary Snoop Dogg hosting the festivities.

Snoop Dogg had jokes about Bill Belichick and his younger girlfriend, the Dallas Cowboys, the Cincinnati Bengals defense and much more.

Snoop Dogg also roasted the NFL’s newest young star: Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Snoop said Daniels was his wife’s new favorite player. He also had a hilarious line about the Commanders:

“You were so good this year, the NFL had to finally tell your team about this award show,” Snoop Dogg said.

That’s an accurate statement.

However, his best joke:

“He’s so chill that weed smokes him to relax.”

Here’s the video:

That’s an all-timer, for sure.

Daniels would go on to win the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Later, his “Hail Mary” touchdown pass to wide receiver Noah Brown was named the Next Gen Stats Moment of the Year.

Jerry Jones fears Commanders’ Jayden Daniels

Jerry Jones happy Washington is relevant again, but not looking forward to facing Jayden Daniels.

Jayden Daniels not only won an award Thursday, but he also had Jerry Jones regretting facing Daniels.

At Thursday’s NFL Honors from New Orleans, Daniels was the runaway winner of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. It was certainly no surprise, as Daniels led the Washington Commanders to their first winning season since Kirk Cousins led Washington to consecutive winning records in 2015 and 2016.

Jones, the Cowboys owner, was asked about Daniels on Thursday.  The Cowboys defeated the Commanders in Washington and were one play away from sweeping the Commanders. However, Marcus Mariota led a last-minute drive, and his touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin in the last seconds rescued the Commanders.

But Daniels was a highlight reel nearly every game this season. “I get sick when thinking about the Cowboys playing him twice a year the rest of his career,” said Jones.

“He’s a great talent,” Jones continued. “I’m glad to have him in the National Football League. And frankly, really, I like the idea of competing as well for years ahead against the Redskins (Commanders). I’m a big fan of Washington. It’s a great football town. Anything that would help make that more substantive in Washington, I’m all for it.”

Washington had finished dead last in 2023, going 4-13, earning the second overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Commanders GM Adam Peters selected Daniels, and the rookie quarterback did not disappoint. In fact, he excelled.

Daniels rushed for over 800 yards, finished tied for second with Josh Allen for Approximate Value, was sixth in completion percentage (69%), and fourth in QBR (70.5).

The Cowboys and Jones finished third in the NFC East behind the Eagles and Commanders. Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC Championship game. Dallas has not played in the NFC Championship game since the 1995 season.

Watch: Jameis Winston pranks Jayden Daniels with fake photo

Jameis Winston has hilarious interview with Jayden Daniels.

Jameis Winston is one of the NFL’s biggest personalities. This week, Winston worked as a correspondent for Fox Sports during Super Bowl week in New Orleans.

Winston acted as a media member in his role, asking questions to players on both Super Bowl teams and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. There were plenty of hilarious soundbites from Winston, including a back-and-forth with Reid where Winston — a soon-to-be-free-agent — says he hopes to be able to play for Reid someday.

On Thursday night at NFL Honors, Winston had some fun with Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Winston asked Daniels if he was one of the NFL’s best-dressed players, to which Daniels responded, “For sure.”

Winston brought some “footage” to prove otherwise.

The photo, of course, is altered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I). Daniels and his mother enjoyed a good laugh at the photo. Winston asked Daniels’ mother, Regina if she was a big fan of Prince, and she replied that she was.

This led to Winston singing “Purple Rain.”

It was a hilarious segment. Winston has a bright future in the media world whenever he’s done playing. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft just completed his 10th season, appearing in 12 games with seven starts.

Joe Burrow wins Comeback Player of the Year

Joe Burrow was up for multiple awards at the NFL Honors, including NFL MVP.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow entered Thursday night’s NFL Honors up for MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, and Comeback Player of the Year awards.

He exited the event with his second CPOTY honor.

While Burrow took that home, the OPOTY went to Saquon Barkley, not Burrow’s teammate Ja’Marr Chase. Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills won the MVP.

By most accounts, Burrow had an MVP-worthy season and was held back by overall team struggles compared to the other finalists. He completed 70.6 percent of his passes over 17 games, throwing for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns against nine interceptions, the last two numbers leading all passers.

It was a remarkable campaign for Burrow, who entered it off the season-ending wrist injury. He put together his best season to date and now turns his attention toward contract matters and how they might help the Bengals front office in extension talks with big names around him.
