Broncos nominate former player Keith Bishop for Salute to Service award

The Broncos nominated former offensive lineman and current Vice President of Security Keith Bishop for the 2024 Salute to Service.

The Denver Broncos have nominated former offensive lineman and current Vice President of Security Keith Bishop for the 2024 Salute to Service Award presented by USAA nominee, the team announced Friday.

“After his retirement from a ten-year NFL career, Keith worked in federal law enforcement as a special agent for the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration for 20 years,” according to a press release from the team. “He was assigned as the DEA Assistant Regional Director/Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Country Attache at the DEA office in Kabul, Afghanistan (2008-2012).”

In his role with the Broncos, Bishop works closely with first responders at all levels to protect the members of the team. His appreciation for members of the military goes far beyond his years in government service.

“His personal support for the military reaches far into the community, as Bishop supports military-serving organizations including Freedom Service Dogs (FSD) and the Center for American Values,” said the team’s statement. “FSD transforms lives by providing custom-trained service dogs to assist veterans, first responders and active-duty service members who have post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and loss of limbs or mobility due to combat-related injuries.

“The Center for American Values’ mission is to honor the sacrifices made by civilians and veterans alike to help sustain America’s values of honor, integrity and patriotism. Bishop is a committed board member for the center and was a featured speaker for the On Values speaker series in February of 2024. For these reasons and more, Keith has earned the Broncos’ nomination for the 2024 Salute to Service Award.”

This marks the second year in a row the Broncos have nominated a former player for the Salute to Service award. Denver nominated Hall of Famer Randy Gradishar for the honor in 2023.

The winner of the award will be revealed during NFL Honors before the Super Bowl in February.

Twitter reacts to Micah Parsons ripping Steelers LB T.J. Watt

Micah Parsons says T.J. Watt isn’t a Top 5 pass rusher.

For whatever reason, this season’s Defensive Player of the Year Award was highly controversial and the win by Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett over Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt seems to have everyone speaking up.

One guy who had a lot to say was Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons. He claimed that Watt isn’t a Top 5 pass rusher and this of course got social media abuzz. Here are some of our favorite posts about Parson’s comments.

WATCH: Joe Flacco thanks Browns, city of Cleveland in his Comeback Player of the Year acceptance speech

Flacco is thankful for the chance he got

What a magical ride it was for quarterback Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns to end last season. It seemed like the Browns’ injuries were adding up and tanking the season and then Flacco came in and was phenomenal. In the end, they fell flat in the playoffs but it was fun to watch Flacco in a Browns uniform.

In a narrow margin of victory, Joe Flacco won the Comeback Player of the Year award after that run. During his acceptance speech, he echoed what we heard him say during the season that he was just thankful for the chance. Flacco felt like the city of Cleveland embraced him as one of their own and the home-field advantage is real for the Browns.

It will be interesting to see if the Browns try to bring Flacco back as Deshaun Watson’s backup but either way, he gave fans some of the most exciting and fun series of wins in a long time.

Bucs HC Todd Bowles, former OC Dave Canales receive 2023 award votes

They didn’t come close to winning, but both Bowles and Canales received votes (however few) for Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year, respectively.

They didn’t come remotely close to winning, but two Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaches received votes for two year-end awards for the 2023 NFL season.

Both head coach Todd Bowles and former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales both were among the coaches receiving votes for Coach of the Year and Assistant of the Year for the Associated Press. On the player side, quarterback Baker Mayfield and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. were up for Comeback Player of the Year and Walter Payton Man of the Year, respectfully, but neither won those awards.

Bowles received one third-place vote for Coach of the Year in the system’s ranked-choice voting, earning him just one point and leaving him in a three-way tie for 10th. Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel and Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott were the other two coaches with just one point.

Former Bucs OC and now current Carolina Panthers HC Dave Canales also finished 10th for Assistant Coach of the Year, netting two points with two third-place votes. He finished one vote ahead of San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and one point below Minnesota Vikings DC Brian Flores.

No Pittsburgh media among AP awards voters

Here is the full list of AP voters for the NFL awards.

Thursday night was the NFL Honors where the most prestigious individual awards of the season were handed out. Those awards are voted on by a select group of AP media members.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are all up in the air about the voting for Defensive Player of the Year which went to Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett rather than Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt. Not to feed the conspiracy theorists out there but if you look at the list below you will see that none of the 50 voters are members of the Pittsburgh media. Do with that information what you will.

4 Steelers takeaways from the NFL Honors

We are much more excited for Cam Heyward than we are disappointed or T.J. Watt.

Thursday night was the NFL Honors where the league gives out its big individual awards for the season. For whatever reason, this is something NFL fans, including Pittsburgh Steelers fans get heavily invested in. Let’s take a look at how things went for the Steelers and offer some takeaways.

Recapping NFL Honors as Browns go 4-for-4 on the night

In case you missed out on the NFL Honors, Myles Garrett, Kevin Stefanski, and the Browns cleaned up nicely.

The Cleveland Browns, highlighted by Myles Garrett and Kevin Stefanski, swept up all of the NFL Honors.

What a night it was for the Browns and their fans as their magical season saw injury after injury decimate their roster. Despite every ounce of adversity faced, the Browns finished the season with 11 wins, clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2020.

While the season did not end as they had hoped that it would, the Browns’ year did not go unnoticed around the league by players, coaches, and AP voters. The results of those AP votes were revealed on Thursday night, and it could not have gone any better for those watching from Northeast Ohio.

They entered the evening with four players and coaches up for awards and left with all four of those personnel taking home hardware. Here is a recap of the NFL Honors festivities in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Dolphins leave 2024 NFL Honors empty-handed

Two of Miami’s stars lost the votes for awards during the NFL Honors.

The wait is finally over, as the 2023 NFL season is about to wrap up with a Super Bowl battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

On Thursday, the league handed out their annual awards at their NFL Honors show, and two Miami Dolphins were up for some hardware – Tyreek Hill for Offensive Player of the Year and Tua Tagovailoa for Comeback Player of the Year.

Hill appeared in 16 games, leading the league in receiving yards (1,799) and touchdowns (13) on 119 receptions. He set new franchise single-season records in receiving yards in 2023 after doing the same the year prior.

Tagovailoa dealt with some serious concussion issues in 2022 that kept him off the field for a significant portion of the season, including the team’s first playoff game since 2016. He bounced back with an impressive campaign that saw him play in all 17 regular-season games and lead the league in passing yards with a career-high 4,624. He also set career highs in completion percentage (69.3%) and touchdowns (29).

Despite their incredible seasons, neither Dolphin took home their respective trophies, as Christian McCaffrey was named the Offensive Player of the Year and Joe Flacco won Comeback Player of the Year.

Miami’s stars certainly had their cases, but the two winners did as well.

The Dolphins likely won’t have a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year next year, but they do have many who could win either Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year.
