Bucs QB Baker Mayfield named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

On Wednesday, Baker Mayfield was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Chargers in Week 15.

Baker Mayfield has had quite the career renaissance since leaving the Cleveland Browns after being their number-one overall pick in 2018. That resurgence had another chapter added to the book when the NFL announced their latest recipients of the conference players of the week.

On Wednesday, Baker Mayfield was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Chargers in Week 15.

According to the Tampa Bay Communications team, Mayfield has now earned Offensive Player of the Week recognition five times in his career, with three different teams. Against the number one scoring defense, Mayfield completed 22-of-27 passes for 288 yards and added on four touchdowns, while earning a 135.3 passer rating.

Mayfield is having a special 2024 season as a whole, not just in Week 15. Only he and Jared Goff of the Lions are ranked in the top five in passing touchdowns, yards, and completion percentage.

He will look to add to those numbers on primetime on Sunday night against the Cowboys in Week 16.

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week again

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week again for the fourth time this season

Saquon Barkley has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 302-total-yard performance against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

With his fourth NFC Offensive Player of the Week (Weeks 1, 7, 9, 12), Barkley is the first Eagles play to earn it four times a season.

Hall of Famers Terrell Davis (1998), Barry Sanders (1997), and LaDainian Tomlinson (2006) are the only other NFL running backs to earn this distinction 4x in a season.

Barkley’s explosion included touchdown runs of 70 and 72 yards, and his 255 yards are the ninth-most in an NFL game in league history. Barkley shattered LeSean McCoy’s record of 217 yards in a game (2013 Snow Bowl vs. Lions) with his 72-yard run that acted as a knockout punch in the win.

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after dominating performance vs. Jaguars in Week 9

Saquon Barkley has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.

Barkley’s latest honor comes after he logged  27 carries for 159 yards and a touchdown. He also had three receptions for 40 yards and a score as Philadelphia continued their hot streak on offense.

Barkley scored on a 20-yard touchdown catch, but his most impressive play of the season may have been this short pass from Jalen Hurts that Philadelphia turned into a dazzling gain. The most important aspect of the catch-and-run was Barkley pulling off a 180-degree backward hurdle over a Jaguars defender for a first down.

Barkley put the Eagles up 17-0 with a 19-yard touchdown run.

Barkley had 199 yards from scrimmage on Sunday and has 1,071 yards this year — the most ever by an Eagles player through the first eight games of the season in franchise history.

Barkley finished 14 yards shy of his career-high yards in a game and placed himself firmly back into the race for the NFL rushing title and the league’s Offensive Player of the Year award.

Jared Goff wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week award

Jared Goff wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week award for his perfect game

Congratulations are in order for Jared Goff. The Lions quarterback earned the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his perfect performance on Monday Night Football.

Goff captured the weekly award for the first time this season and the sixth of his NFL career, which began in 2016 with the Rams. He last captured the honor in Week 6 a year ago in Detroit’s win over Tampa Bay.

Goff set the NFL record for most attempts without an incompletion in a single game, going 18-for-18 in leading the Lions to a 42-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks had a difficult time stopping the Detroit Lions in their Week 4 primetime 42-29 defeat. Lions starting quarterback Jared Goff completed a perfect 18-of-18 passing attempts for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Goff actually set the record for the most passing attempts without an incompletion in a single game in NFL history.

Goff also caught a touchdown via the trick play previously known as “The Philly Special.” Goff has since been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

The Lions racked up just 389 yards of total offense, but they were extremely efficient. All 42 points occurred via the offense, meaning Seattle’s defense failed to register many stops. The Lions only faced six third downs throughout the entire game, and they completed 50% of them (3-of-6).

The Lions were well-balanced, scoring three rushing touchdowns and three passing touchdowns. The Seahawks entered Monday’s contest allowing just 14.3 points per game. That number rose exponentially to 21.3. The Seahawks hadn’t allowed 40-plus points since Week 13 of the 2023 season, when they were defeated 41-35 by the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s worth acknowledging the Seahawks were without five key defensive players, including Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Mafe, Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, and Jerome Baker. Congratulations to Goff nonetheless. It was a historic night.

Baker Mayfield wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Let him bake.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag] baked on Sunday, and now he has the accolade to prove it.

The team announced Wednesday that Mayfield won the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award for his stellar effort against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15. Mayfield becomes the fourth player to win an award for the Bucs this season, joining punter Jake Camarda (NFC Special Teams Player of the Week), Antoine Winfield Jr. (NFC Defensive Player of the Week) and defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month).

Mayfield was nigh perfect in Green Bay, and one could take that literally — he put up a perfect passer rating of 158.3 and completed 78.6% of his passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns. The game was one of the best Mayfield has played in his entire career to this point and helped lead the Bucs to a big 34-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Mayfield is the ninth Bucs quarterback to win the award and the first since QB Tom Brady did it in Week 5 of the 2021 season for his effort against the Miami Dolphins.
