Sunday’s results set up Jets-Steelers matchup in 2024 in Pittsburgh

The Jets are now locked into a trip to Pittsburgh in 2024 following Sunday’s results.

With the 2023 season almost in the books, eyes begin to look ahead to the 2024 season. Most of the opponents for next season are already known — the Jets will play their six divisional games plus games against the AFC South and NFC West. Three games one determined based on the final regular season standings with will be known after Sunday.

However, following Sunday’s results, one of those three games is now locked in. The Jets knew they would have a road game against the same-place finisher in the AFC North. That was locked in Sunday. The Jets will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.

The Steelers pulled off a big win in Seattle to move to 9-7 while the Cincinnati Bengals lost in Kansas City to drop to 8-8. The Steelers swept the Bengals this season so even if both teams finish 9-8, the Steelers will still be ahead of the Bengals. Also as a result, the Bengals will host New England next season.

The Jets last saw the Steelers in 2022, 24-20 win in Week 4. The Steelers lead the all-time series 20-7. The Jets have won two straight and three of the last four against the Steelers.

The Jets have two more matchups left to determine: a home game against the same-place finisher from the AFC West and a road game against the same-place finisher in the NFC North.

The AFC West opponent will be whoever loses Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders. The NFC North opponent can be any of the teams except for the Detroit Lions, who clinched the division. The Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings all can finish second, third or fourth. Entering Week 18, it would be the Vikings on the Jets’ schedule. Minnesota visits Detroit while Green Bay hosts Chicago.

The Jets known home opponents are the Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Texans, Colts, Rams and Seahawks.

Their known road opponents are the Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Jaguars, Titans, Cardinals, 49ers and now the Steelers.

Marcus Maye is Jets Wire’s Player of the Game vs. Steelers

Marcus Maye is the player of the game following his strong performance against the Steelers.

If it wasn’t for Marcus Maye’s performance against the Steelers on Sunday, the Jets’ 16-10 win could’ve very well been a loss.

Maye made two huge plays with an interception in the endzone and a pass defense that could’ve resulted in a game-winning touchdown for Pittsburgh. For Maye’s effort, he is Jets Wire’s player of the game for Week 16 of the regular season.

Maye played a huge part in this victory with the two plays mentioned above. On the interception, the Steelers were inside the red zone, but Hodges decided to loft a ball into the endzone and Maye came sprinting over to make a leaping catch to keep Pittsburgh off the board.

As for the pass defense, that came on the Steelers’ final drive. Pittsburgh needed a touchdown to tie the game and James Washington had one-on-one coverage with Maye, who was able to bat the ball away to prevent the touchdown to secure the win.

The third-year free safety has finally put together a healthy season after an injury-riddled 2018 campaign. Maye has played well alongside Jamal Adams with 58 total tackles, seven pass defenses and one interception.

With Maye and Adams, the Jets have one of the best safety duos in the league. They both find ways to make big plays and are cornerstone pieces for New York’s future.

Jets vs. Steelers: 4 takeaways from New York’s win over Pittsburgh

Here are four takeaways from the Jets’ 16-10 win over the Steelers.

In a game that no team looked like they wanted to win, it was the Jets that ultimately pulled it out with a 16-10 win over the Steelers.

Winning ugly is better than losing, but the Jets’ offense is becoming a real concern. After driving down the field on the first drive of the game, New York’s offense went ice cold. Luckily, the Jets’ defense shut out the Steelers offense in the second half that carried them to a victory.

Let’s take a look at some takeaways from the Jets’ sixth win of the season.

Defense responded well after beatdown in Baltimore

The Jets defense was torched by Lamar Jackson and company last week in Baltimore, but bounced back quite nicely this week.

Devlin Hodges and Mason Rudolph are no Jackson, but New York’s defense did everything right on Sunday. They got to the quarterback with four sacks and forced two takeaways after only forcing one in their last three games. The Jets also got off the field well on third down, only allowing the Steelers to convert three times.

Gregg Williams continues to show why he is one of the best defensive coordinators in the league. This defense has been decimated by injuries all year long and are still able to give opposing offenses trouble.
