Hurricanes at Islanders projected goalies

Pyotr Kochetkov (5-1-4, 2.44 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (10-8-0, 2.33 GAA, .927 SV%, 2 SO)

Kochetkov coughed up 4 goals on 30 shots last time out in Anaheim, but he is still a respectable 3-0-2 across his past 4 starts and 5 appearances overall. He has faced the Islanders just once in his career, coming on in relief April 24, 2022 with 1 goal allowed on 8 shots.

Sorokin was hammered for 5 goals on 26 shots in Tuesday’s loss against the St. Louis Blues, giving him losses in 3 consecutive starts. He was in between the pipes Oct. 28 for the win in Carolina, allowing just 2 goals on 35 shots.

Hurricanes at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Islanders 2

Moneyline

The HURRICANES (-150) are a decent play as moderate favorites, as Carolina has won 4 of the past 5 games overall, while going 13-5 in the past 18 outings when playing on 3 or more days of rest.

The Islanders (+130), on the other hand, are playing on no rest after winning 6-4 in New Jersey. Carolina is the last team New York wants to see, as it is just 2-10 in the past 12 meetings despite the win in October. The Canes are also 21-7 in the past 28 meetings in Long Island, too.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Islanders +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return if you’d like some insurance, and that’s just too expensive. If you like it, take New York on straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+100) at even money is a strong play.

The Under is 6-2 in the past 8 games overall for the Islanders, while the Under is 4-0 in the past 4 games against Eastern Conference teams for the Canes. The Under is also 6-2 in the past 8 when playing on 3 or more days of rest for Carolina, too.

St. Louis Blues at New York Islanders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s St. Louis Blues at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Louis Blues (11-14-0) wrap up a 3-game road trip against the New York Islanders (16-10-0) Tuesday at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Blues vs. Islanders odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Blues were tripped up 6-4 on the road against the New York Rangers Monday night, losing for the 4th consecutive game. Even worse, St. Louis has allowed exactly 6 goals in each of the previous 3 outings, while yielding 4 or more goals in 7 consecutive contests.

The Islanders halted a 2-game losing skid, blanked the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Sunday behind Semyon Varlamov. New York has won 4 of its last 5 games at home, including a pair of shutouts.

Blues at Islanders projected goalies

Thomas Greiss (2-3-0, 3.57 GAA, .907 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (10-7-0, 2.17 GAA, .932 SV%, 2 SO)

Greiss came on in relief Saturday, turning aside 19 of the 20 shots he faced in Pittsburgh, but the damage was already done after Jordan Binnington allowed 4 goals on 17 shots in just over 1 period.

Sorokin was on the short end of a 4-1 loss against Nashville Friday, but he did his part. The goalie conceded just 2 goals on 21 shots, but the team produced just 1 goal of support, while the Preds tacked on 2 empty-net goals.

Blues at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Blues 2

Moneyline

The ISLANDERS (-155) is a moderate favorite worth playing, and it’s a bit surprising the line is so low given the recent struggles of the Blues (+135).

St. Louis just played Monday, so that’s working against it, and the Blues have coughed up 6 goals in each of the last 3 games. There is nothing to like about St. Louis, especially working on no rest.

Puck line/Against the spread

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (+145) puck line is worth playing lightly. The Blues +1.5 (-190) have dropped 4 in a row, and it has lost by 2 or more goals in 6 of the last 7 games.

If you like New York to win, you should like it to win by at least 2 goals here, especially against former Islanders backstop Greiss.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-125) is worth playing, as the Blues have really struggled defensively and in between the pipes. St. Louis has allowed 4 or more goals in each of the last 7 games, while its penalty kill ranks 2nd-to-last in the NHL at 66.7%.

The Islanders are just so-so on the man advantage, but it should be able to score plenty against the skidding Blues.

The Over is 6-0 in the last 6 road games for the Blues, and 18-7-2 in the last 27 games when playing on no rest.

New York Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (15-8-0) and Philadelphia Flyers (7-10-5) meet Tuesday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+/Hulu). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Flyers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders topped the Flyers 5-2 in the front end of the home-and-home series Saturday at UBS Arena. New York has won its last 4 games, scoring at least 3 goals in each contest.

The Flyers exceeded expectations early on, but they have been a disaster lately. Philadelphia hasn’t won since Nov. 8 against the St. Louis Blues, going 0-7-3 across the past 10 games overall, including 4 straight losses at home in regulation.

Islanders at Flyers projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (10-5-0, 2.19 GAA, .933 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Carter Hart (6-5-4, 2.85 GAA, .915 SV%)

Sorokin has won 3 straight starts, including a shutout over the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday. Semyon Varlamov, not Sorokin, was between the pipes for the front end of the back-to-back against the Flyers. Sorokin is 7-2-0 with a 2.17 GAA and .933 SV% and 1 SO in 9 starts and 10 appearances in November.

Hart started out as a ball of fire in the first month, going 5-0-1 with a 2.31 GAA and .938 SV% in 6 October starts. It has been the complete opposite in 9 November outings, going 1-5-3 with a 3.22 GAA and .896 SV%.

Islanders at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Flyers 2

Moneyline

The Islanders (-200) are quite expensive, especially on the road, costing you 2 times your potential return. There is little value in a standalone wager like that, especially over the long term.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (+125) on the puck line at plus money is a much better play, as 2 of their past 3 wins have been by 3 goals, and they have covered the puck line in 3 of the previous 4 outings.

The Flyers have dropped 7 of the 10 games during its winless skid by 2 or more goals. Until Philly shows signs of pulling out of its nosedive, keep fading it.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-130) is worth playing lightly — but go with a half-unit play at most.

Philadelphia has allowed 4 or more goals in 2 straight, and in 9 of the 10 games during the team’s winless skid. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that New York takes care of the Over on its own.

New York Islanders at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New York Islanders at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (11-8-0) and Toronto Maple Leafs (10-5-4) meet Monday at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders have dropped the past 2 games at the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators, allowing 5 goals in each setback. New York looks for the bounce-back here, trying to even its record at 2-2 on the 4-game road trip.

The Maple Leafs spanked the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night by a 5-2 count, moving to 3-0-1 across the past 4 games overall. The Leafs’ defense and goalie situation has been improved lately, allowing just 2.3 goals per game (GPG) during the 4-game span.

Islanders at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (7-5-0, 2.41 GAA, .925 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Matt Murray (2-1-1, 2.76 GAA, .913 SV%)

Sorokin coughed up 5 goals on 31 shots in his most recent showing Thursday in Nashville. He had conceded 3 or fewer goals in each of his prior 7 starts and 8 appearances dating back to Oct. 22.

The 28-year-old Murray has picked up his play since returning from a month-long injury, going 2-0-1 with a 2.34 GAA and .933 SV% in 3 November starts. He was stellar Saturday against the Sabres, turning aside 32 of 34 shots.

Islanders at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Islanders 2

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-180) are right at my personal limit for a moneyline play, but Toronto is totally worth it.

Toronto has been playing with a lot of confidence lately, and it has won 4 straight meetings in this series, all as the favorite. New York last won in this series on Nov. 13, 2019.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+130) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line. Not only has Toronto won the past 4 in this series, but it has outscored New York by a 13-3 count during the span, including a pair of shutouts. Toronto has covered the puck line as the favorite in each of the wins during the 4-game streak.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-125) is worth a look Monday.

The Under is 3-0-1 in the past 4 meetings in this series while going 4-1 in New York’s past 5 meetings against Atlantic Division foes.

The Under is 9-3 in the past 12 home games for the Leafs, while going 8-1 in the previous 9 against teams with a winning record, too.

New York Islanders at Dallas Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Islanders at Dallas Stars odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (11-7-0) and Dallas Stars (10-5-2) meet Saturday at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders were outlasted 5-4 by the Nashville Predators Thursday. Despite the loss, New York is still a solid 4-2 in the past 6 outings, going for 4 or more goals in 5 of those contests.

The Stars have been an offensive juggernaut lately, including an impressive 6-4 win at the Florida Panthers Thursday. Dallas has scored 4 or more goals in 4 straight contests, and 7 of the past 8 outings, averaging 4.8 goals per game (GPG) during the impressive stretch.

Islanders at Stars projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (7-5-0, 2.41 GAA, .925 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (6-2-1, 2.23 GAA, .927 SV%, 1 SO)

Sorokin tied a season-high with 5 goals allowed on 31 shots in Thursday against Nashville. He had allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his previous 7 starts and 8 appearances dating back to Oct. 22.

Oettinger came on midway through the second period Thursday in Florida, turning aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced in relief. He is just 1-1-1 with a 3.80 GAA and .887 SV% in 3 starts and 4 appearances in November.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Islanders at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Islanders 2

Moneyline

The STARS (-145) are a decent play as moderate favorites. Oettinger was banged up to start the month, and he was rather uneven in his first 3 starts back from injury. He was sharp in relief Thursday, and might finally have his mojo back.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Islanders +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return on the puck line, and that’s too much risk for not enough reward if you’re searching for some insurance.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+110) is a solid value at plus money.

These teams have been scoring plenty and ticking off a lot of Overs lately. However, if Sorokin and Oettinger play to their capabilities, this has the potential to be a rather low-scoring game.

The Over is 7-0-2 in the past 9 games overall for Dallas, and 7-3-1 in the past 11 at home. The Over is 5-1 in the past 6 for New York against teams with a winning record, too.

Playing the Under is risky business and a serious bucking of the trends, but trends are made to be broken and we have 2 tremendous goalies facing one another here.

New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New York Islanders at Ottawa Senators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (10-6-0) travel north of the border to take on the Ottawa Senators (5-8-1) Monday. Puck drop at Canadian Tire Centre is at 5:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Senators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders bounced back and beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime Sunday to get back on track after being shutout 2-0 by the Arizona Cardinals Thursday.

The Islanders, currently 2nd place in the Metro division, are looking to stay on pace with the New Jersey Devils who have come out sprinting to a 12-3-0 record to start the year.

The Senators are struggling in all facets right now, from on ice where they are 5-8-1 to the financials where they are up for sale. A win here could be a blessing as they hope to make a push out of last place in the Atlantic division.

Islanders at Senators projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (7-4-0, 2.17 GAA, .932 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (1-2-0, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%)

Sorokin is 4th in the NHL in GAA this season and 5th in SV% amongst starters.

Talbot, despite being 1-2-0, still has a 2.35 GAA. The Senators have scored 9 goals while he has allowed 9 along his 3 starts.

Islanders at Senators picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 3, Senators 2

Moneyline

BET ISLANDERS (-120).

Neither of these teams tends to score a lot. This will be a close game and taking either side on the puck line is not worth the risk. With the value on the Islanders (-120), this is the way to go.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Do not bet on the PL in this game. The odds for either side are far too high to make it a viable wager.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-117).

Both goalies are good. The Senators are not likely to get many goals past Sorokin. Although Talbot is a bit freer, his 2.35 GAA is still solid for a backup goaltender.

Giving up just 9 goals in 3 starts, with 6 of those coming in one game, Talbot will look to return to his form of allowing few goals. The Islanders will win a low-scoring game here. The UNDER 6.5 (-117) is my favorite play.

Islanders at Rangers projected goalies

Semyon Varlamov (2-2-0, 2.90 GAA, .909 SV%) vs. Igor Shesterkin (6-1-2, 2.41 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO)

Varlamov suffered a loss with 2 goals allowed on 24 shots last time out at Detroit Saturday. He was actually pulled midway through the 3rd period in favor of Sorokin.

Shesterkin, the defending Vezina Trophy winner, allowed 4 goals on 36 shots in a loss against the visiting Bruins Thursday. That setback snapped a 3-game win streak, and it was his 1st regulation setback in 9 starts overall.

Islanders at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Islanders 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-180) are worth playing lightly, but this is a little expensive based on the head-to-head trends.

The Islanders have managed 17 wins in the last 22 trips to MSG and are 7-2 in the last 9 overall in the series.

So why pick the Blueshirts? The difference is that Shesterkin will be in the crease, with Varlamov — and not Sorokin — between the pipes for the Isles.

Puck line/Against the spread

The RANGERS -1.5 (+133) is a decent play worth a half-unit on home ice.

The Rangers have really struggled lately, so this is risky business. They’re 1-5 in the past 6 games at home, but they should catch a break against Varlamov. The offense should be able to come alive, but be ready to sweat a little. It might come down to an empty-net goal to get over the hump here.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-117) is the best play on the board here.

The Under has been such a dominating trend in this series that you have to keep rolling with it until the Over starts to hit on a routine basis.

The Under is 12-3-1 in the past 16 meetings overall in this series and has cashed at a 6-0-1 mark in the past 7 meetings at MSG.

Calgary Flames at New York Islanders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Calgary Flames at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Calgary Flames (5-4-1) and New York Islanders (7-5-0) meet Monday at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Flames vs. Islanders odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Flames kick off a 3-game road trip on the Island. It will be good to get away from home, as Calgary lost its last 4 games — all at Scotiabank Saddledome — including a 4-3 overtime loss against the New Jersey Devils Saturday.

The Islanders will be itching to get back onto the ice after being shutout 3-0 on the road at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings in a Saturday matinee. That snapped a 5-game win streak, during which New York averaged 4.4 goals per game.

Flames at Islanders projected goalies

Jacob Markstrom (4-2-1, 2.84 GAA, .900 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (5-3-0, 2.12 GAA, .933 SV%, 1 SO)

Markstrom allowed 4 goals on 35 shots last time out in the OT setback against the Devils. He is 2-1 in his past 3 outings against Eastern Conference teams this year and he was 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .930 SV% in 2 starts against the Isles last season.

Sorokin came on with just 8:13 left in Saturday’s game in Detroit, allowing a goal on 2 shots, but it was Semyon Varlamov saddled with the loss. Sorokin and Varlamov have both benefited from a tremendous penalty kill unit which ranks 3rd in the NHL at 90.5%

Flames at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Flames 1

Moneyline

The ISLANDERS (+100) are a strong play on home ice at even money. The Flames have been hot garbage lately, dropping 4 in a row, while going 2-2-0 against the Eastern Conference this season.

It’s hard to believe, but Calgary will be playing just its 2nd road game of the season, starting out with 9 home games over its first 10 outings. It is also its first game outside of Alberta. Look for the Flames to look like a fish out of water here.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Islanders +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s just too expensive if you require a little bit of insurance.

The Flames -1.5 (+195) have dropped their past 4 as a favorite, so there is nothing to like about them, either.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+110) is worth a look at plus money.

Sorokin has the potential to shut down the opposition on any given night, and he is allowing just north of 2 goals per contest.

While Markstrom has been a bit uneven lately, he is one of the better netminders in the West. Calgary has cashed the Under at a 4-2 clip in the past 6 games overall, so roll with the Under again here.

New York Islanders at St. Louis Blues odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Islanders at St. Louis Blues odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (6-4-0) take a trip to the Gateway City to visit the St. Louis Blues (3-5-0) in Thursday night NHL action. Puck drop from Enterprise Center is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Blues odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders are hot coming into this game on a 4-game winning streak. Their latest win came in a 3-1 outing vs. the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. In that outing the Islanders led in shots and penalty minutes, but fell behind in hits and faceoffs won.

The Blues are on a terrible cold streak, losing their last 5 in a row. Their most recent loss came in a 5-2 outing vs. the Los Angeles Kings on Halloween night. In that loss the Blues led in faceoffs won, hits, and penalty minutes, but lost the battle for shots and saves.

Islanders at Blues projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (4-3-0, 2.04 GAA, .935 SV%) vs. Jordan Bennington (3-3-0, 3.28 GAA, .882 SV%)

Sorokin has started in 4 of the Islanders’ 6 wins and has allowed 14 total goals on 217 shot attempts with over 412 minutes spent on the ice.

Bennington is the Blues’ premier goalie and has started in 6 of their 8 games and started in all 3 of their wins. He has allowed 18 total goals on 153 shot attempts.

Islanders at Blues picks and predictions

Prediction

Blues 4, Islanders 3

Moneyline

LEAN BLUES -117

This is by far the riskiest bet in this game. With the Blues being on a 5 game losing streak and the Islanders being on a 4-game winning streak there is a good amount of risk attached with this bet. I am picking the Blues mostly because I don’t see this cold streak continuing and I think they get a big win at home to revitalize the locker room.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET ISLANDERS +1.5 (-260)

This is your best bet in this game,  but it will cost you. The Islanders are a solid team that is on a very hot streak to this point. Whether the Islanders win or lose they should be able to make this game close and cover the spread against a Blues team that has been struggling over the last week or so.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 5.5 (-140)

This bet has a fair amount of risk involved. Sorokin does not allow many goals and when you look at his goals allowed per game compared to Bennington’s, the averages would tell you that the under is actually safer. I disagree, however, and believe the Blues will need to be able to score goals if they want to win this game and in their losses this season the Islanders have always allowed 3+ goals to be scored on them.

New York Islanders at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks and predictions.

The New York Islanders (5-4-0) visit the Chicago Blackhawks (4-3-2) for a Tuesday night affair at the United Center. The opening faceoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Blackhawks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

New York ranks 4th in the NHL in scoring, at 3.67 goals per game, and its production has come without the benefit of much success on the power play (10.7%). The Islanders arrive in Chicago with a 3-game win streak in tow.

The Blackhawks have surprised bettors in the early going. They are a +$725 on the moneyline, and their 4 wins don’t fit the tanking-the-season narrative, at least no so far. The Hawks’ 3.44 GPG rank 8th in the league; their 27.6% powerplay ranks 6th.

Islanders at Blackhawks projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (3-3-1, 2.21 GAA, .933 SV%) vs. Alex Stalock (3-2-0, 2.95 GAA, .914 SV%)

Sorokin has stopped 74 of 76 pucks in his last 2 starts. The 27-year-old faced Chicago last season and stopped 39 of 40 shots.

Stalock is coming off making 32 saves in a Sunday 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild. The 35-year-old has already gotten more NHL action than he did the previous 3 seasons when he dealt with a heart condition and mostly played in the AHL.

Islanders at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Blackhawks 2

Moneyline

New York is better than its record. The still-probably-tanking Blackhawks are likely worse than theirs.

The Islanders head into Tuesday’s game on 2 days’ rest. They’ve logged 2 impressive wins on 2-day rest so far, and they are a worthy play in -190 territory. PASS otherwise.

Puck line/Against the spread

The better call here is the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+133) action on the puck line.

New York has played a tougher slate so far. A raw analytics comparison here does not favor the Isles, but their performance has come against tougher foes.

The Islanders have been quite good in 5-on-5 play. They are perhaps a bit due in converting on some quality chances in close. Four of their 5 wins are by multi-goal margins.

Over/Under

No lean plus extra dose of juice equals PASS.
