Watch: Security guard gets clobbered on XFL sidelines

A security guard for the Guardians was blindsided by the Wildcats’ Kermit Whitfield.

An XFL running play by the LA Wildcats turned into the hit of the day. However, it wasn’t by a New York Guardian making a tackle on wide receiver Kermit Whitfield.

Rather, the security guy was doing his job, watching the fans with his backed turned to the play and former Florida State player decleated him.

Check out this shot:

He popped right back up and went back to work.

XFL player earns personal foul for throwing a flag back at an official

This is never a good idea.

New York Guardians safety Dravon Askew-Henry earned himself the most unnecessary penalty of the 2020 XFL season so far after throwing a penalty flag back at an official after a key defensive holding call. Askew-Henry was flagged for holding, but the official threw his flag very late, and his toss inadvertently hit Askew-Henry in the midsection. Askew-Henry caught the flag and threw it right back, which caused another flag to fly.

Watch: XFL Wildcats come up big after coach Winston Moss’ gamble

Winston Moss of the LA Wildcats took a risk and wound up with a huge reward in the XFL.

Winston Moss was not safe for television after he tried to fire up his LA Wildcats Saturday against the New York Guardians at halftime.

Following, the expletive-laced pep talk, Moss decided to take a huge risk and go for it on fourth-and-two from the Wildcats’ 28 in the third quarter trailing 14-6.

A 31-yard pass interference penalty kept the drive going and a play later Josh Johnson found Saeed Blacknall, who played at Penn State, with a 42-yard pass for a score. The two-point conversion worked and the game was tied at 14.

A piece of Moss’ halftime motivation:

Watch: Guardians’ Dravon Askew-Henry throws penalty flag at official

The New York Guardians’ Dravon Askew-Henry was flagged twice on one play, once for throwing the marker at the official.

The New York Guardians have had trouble keeping their composure this XFL season. First, quarterback Matt McGloin threw a vintage fit on the sidelines in Week 2. In Week 3, center Ian Silberman got into it with an opponent, was flagged and benched. And Saturday, against the LA Wildcats, DB Dravon Askew-Henry was flagged twice after throwing the flag at an official.

Askew-Henry was called for holding on the pass pattern. The official threw the penalty flag and it wound up being caught by Askew-Henry, who was none to happy about the call. The West Virginia product took the flag and winged it back at the official who threw it his way first. The official didn’t have a flag to throw so he gestured to a fellow official to throw his, which the other official did.

The result was a five-yard holding penalty and a 15-yard unsportsmanklike conduct call.

That was an XFL first as was having a game between teams that each have female presidents.

XFL Week 4 TV guide: Schedule, streams, point spreads

All you need to know about Week 4 in the XFL.

Through three weeks of the XFL season, only one undefeated team remains – and the 3-0 Houston Roughnecks will face their toughest test of the year so far as they travel to Dallas for a potential playoff preview against quarterback Landry Jones and the Renegades.

Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker leads all players in the MVP race with 10 passing touchdowns through three games, but the Renegades have been much improved since Jones returned to the starting lineup. Elsewhere in the league, the DC Defenders will try to rebound from a blowout loss against the 0-3 Tampa Bay Vipers, and the LA Wildcats will try to get back to .500 on the road in New York.

Prediction

Wildcats 26, Guardians 16

Moneyline (?)

Both of these teams are looking to win their second game of the season and get back to .500. The Wildcats (-333) are big moneyline favorites despite being on the road. This actually says more about the Guardians (+260), who have been pathetic on offense all season long. PASS on a moneyline bet and look to the spread for proper value on the Wildcats.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Wildcats to win outright returns a profit of just $3.

Against the Spread (?)

The WILDCATS (-7, -125) open this game as more than a touchdown favorite over the Guardians (+7, +105).Ā  After a dominant Week 3 game against the DC Defenders, the Wildcats offense looks like it’s back on track after two subpar games to start the season. Meanwhile, the Guardians have scored just nine total points over their last two games as they have struggled to find any consistancy at quarterback. Trust the Wildcats offense to continue to put up points and to cover the 7-point spread Saturday.

Over/Under (?)

The total for this Week 4 XFL matchup is set at 39 points, which feels about right given how bad the Guardians offense has been this season. For the Over to hit in this game, the Wildcats will need to do most of the heavy lifting, but they have proven that’s not a problem as long as Johnson is healthy. Don’t expect this to be a high-scoring contest, but for the OVER 39 (-115) to hit in MetLife Stadium.

What we learned from Week 3 of the XFL season

What did we learn from Week 3 of an XFL season that saw the LA Wildcats erupt.

There is one undefeated team left in the XFL. There is one winless team after three weeks. What happened in Week 3? What is there to look forward to as the season continues?

Mr. Excitement is LA’s newest rock star

Martex Carter brought the excitement that was missing to the LA Wildcats. The running back from Grambling State put on a football show and did some gymnastics, too, as LA got its first victory of the season. He scored three TDs, two with spectacular finishes, as the Wildcats were pristine.

WATCH! St. Louis Battlehawks’ lineman trades XFL ball for box of Girl Scout cookies

A clever sign led to an in-game transaction between a St. Louis Battlehawks lineman and a young fan.

The best sign of the week — maybe the whole XFL season — goes to the young lady who brought this to the Battlehawks’ home opener against the New York Guardians’ Sunday.

She wanted to trade a box of Girl Scouts Thin Mints for a Battlehawks football. The sign read: I will trade a BOX of GIRL SCOUT Thin Mints for a BATTLEHAWKS FOOTBALL.

It took three-plus quarters in the game that St. Louis was controlling before 6-foot-3, 289-pound Casey Sayles deciding it was okay to make the trade. Sayles, who is a defensive tackle, went over and made the swap. He also tasted the cookies and seemed to enjoy his part of the deal.

WATCH: Battlehawks score first XFL kickoff return TD on a reverse, no less

The St. Louis Battlehawks’ trickeration resulted in the first kickoff return TD in the new XFL.

The new XFL rule for kickoffs felt like they would be a perfect setup for returners to break through the special teams wall and score a touchdown. It finally happened Sunday as the St. Louis Battlehawks took one 90 yards to the house with some trickeration.

Keith Mumphery, who played college ball at Michigan State, grabbed the kickoff.Ā  He lateraled the ball to Joe Powell and the safety ran all the way to the end zone off the reverse. The play went for 90 yards.

Powell played college footballĀ atĀ Globe Institute of Technology in New York City. Powell is a perfect example of an XFL player in it For the Love of Football.

Guardians at Battlehawks: XFL Week 3 preview, betting trends and notes

  • The Battlehawks have scored six touchdowns with four allowed through two games. The Guardians had both scored and allowed three touchdowns.
  • Battlehawks QBĀ Jordan Ta’amu ranks second among all passers with 493 passing yards through two games. RBĀ Matt Jones leads his team and the league with 129 rushing yards. Ta’amu has added another 109 rushing yards.
  • Guardians QBĀ Matt McGloin completed just eight of 19 pass attempts for 44 yards and two interceptions last week. He was replaced by backup Marquise Williams, who completed four of eight attempts for 50 yards.

Prediction

Guardians 26, Battlehawks 20

Moneyline (?)

TheĀ GUARDIANS (+300) are the biggest underdogs on the Week 3 slate with the Battlehawks (-400) the most-heavily favored team. With both teams sharing the same futures odds to win the XFL Championship, these moneyline odds should be much tighter, and it’s a good spot to chase the value early in the XFL season.

New York looked much better in a 23-3 win over the Tampa Bay Vipers in Week 1, with McGloin completing 15 of 29 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. Back the visitors to bounce back.

Against the Spread (?)

The safer play is to back theĀ GUARDIANS (+9.5, -106) to stay within nine points in a loss or win outright. The Battlehawks beat the Dallas Renegades by a 15-9 score on the road in Week 1 before last week’s 4-point loss in Houston.

Three of the four games in the XFL last week were played within a one-possession margin after three teams won by double digits in Week 1. Expect the tighter-scoring trend to continue as the season progresses.

Over/Under (?)

The projected totals across the league have been lowered significantly after the Under has been a common theme in the early-going of the season. Back theĀ OVER 40.5 (+100) on the lowest number of the week. The projection is an over-adjustment by the books.
