To the house: Jeudy gets Browns on the board with 89-yard score

Winston-to-Jeudy!

The Cleveland Browns are on the board after quarterback Jameis Winston found wide receiver Jerry Jeudy for a long score against the New Orleans Saints.

Late in the first quarter of this Week 11 matchup, Winston hit receiver Jerry Jeudy for an 89-yard touchdown to get them on the board. New Orleans committed an offsides penalty on the extra point, prompting the Browns to go for two, and the attempt was no good.

The Browns recorded their longest play from scrimmage this season on the drive’s first play when Winston broke the pocket and hit Jeudy for the long catch and run. New Orleans was forced to punt on the previous drive after committing a penalty in Browns territory on fourth and one. Backed up near their own end zone, Cleveland got just what they needed to pull the game within one.

Winston completed just two of his first five passes and has had some missed throws already, but he’ll look to heat up after a massive play. Since taking over as the starter, Winston has created multiple explosive plays. He’ll look to limit turnovers and continue creating big plays to get back in the win column.

New Orleans Saints among teams in attendance for Georgia vs. Tennessee game

The New Orleans Saints were among the many teams in attendance for Saturday’s game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Tennessee Volunteers.:

The New Orleans Saints were just one of many teams represented at Saturday’s Southeastern Conference clash between the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs.

In addition to New Orleans, there were also scouts in attendance for the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears.

Who exactly the Saints are looking at here could be anyone’s guess, and is obviously impossible to provide a definitive answer for. And especially when it comes down to a pair of programs that both put first-rounders in the NFL — something Georgia does every year and will continue to do in 2025.

Among the most major prospects to watch for the 2025 cycle include quarterback Carson Beck, defensive back Malaki Starks and defensive lineman Mykel Williams, just to name a handful.

It will be interesting to see what happens come April with the college football regular season beginning to wind down and the 2025 NFL draft closer than it appears.

Georgia and Tennessee remain tied at 17-17 at the half, but the Bulldogs pulled away in a 31-17 win. The Saints have drafted players from both schools in recent years, most notably Alvin Kamara and Alontae Taylor from Tennessee, so they could have been eyeing the next member of the black and gold at this SEC showdown.

Is Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah playing today? Injury updates for Browns LB

Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is dealing with a neck injury. Here are the latest updates.

The Cleveland Browns will have to take on the New Orleans Saints, and likely the rest of their 2024 opponents, without Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Sitting at 2-7, the Browns’ season is effectively over as they now need to evaluate their younger players. However, Owusu-Koramoah and rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. have both been placed on Injured Reserve and will miss substantial time, throwing a wrench into that plan.

When can the Browns expect their Pro Bowl linebacker back? Let’s check out the latest updates on the injured linebacker.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah injury update

Owusu-Koramoah was placed on Injured Reserve following the Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The Pro Bowl linebacker collided with running back Derrick Henry and had his neck compressed. He was carted off the field and was immediately transported to the hospital where he was held overnight.

Owusu-Koramoah was walking and was discharged the next day.

Veteran linebacker Jordan Hicks spoke to the media this week, however, and made it sound like Owusu-Koramoah is still feeling the effects, saying he is “praying for a miraculous recovery.”

How long will Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah be out?

One Browns insider hinted that the linebacker would have to undergo extensive testing to retake the field and is unlikely to see the field for the rest of 2024. The Browns have remained coy on Owusu-Koramoah’s return timeframe.

He is eligible to return from Injured Reserve on December 8, but that still seems like a long shot for Owusu-Koramoah to strap on the helmet again. Look into 2025 for the Pro Bowl linebacker to return to the brown and orange.

Browns LB depth chart

With Owusu-Koramaoh out against the Saints, the Browns did get Hicks back into the lineup after three missed games. Second-year player Mohamoud Diabate filled in for Hicks over the past three weeks and will now kick over to WILL linebacker to take over for Owusu-Koramoah.

The depth chart gets thinner, but it’s next man up.

Browns down another offensive lineman after late scratch vs. Saints

The Browns have ruled backup offensive tackle Jedrick Wills out against the Saints

The Cleveland Browns have ruled offensive tackle Jedrick Wills out against the New Orleans Saints.

Wills, who came under fire earlier this week for a comment about sitting out against the Baltimore Ravens three weeks ago, will now miss another game with a flare-up to a knee that has been giving him issues all season (according to Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot). Already benched before the bye week in favor of second-year offensive tackle Dawand Jones, Wills is still the designated swing tackle for the Browns.

With James Hudson III still on Injured Reserve as well, veteran and former first round pick Germain Ifedi will now be the first man off the bench should Jones or Jack Conklin exit the game with an injury.

Set for free agency after the season, it is becoming clearer by the day that 2024 will be Wills’ last year in a Browns uniform.

Browns elevate volatile and controversial former first round pick from practice squad

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney will suit up for the Browns for the first time.

As the Cleveland Browns get set to take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 11, they have elevated wide receiver Kadarius Toney from the practice squad.

This game against the Saints will be Toney’s first time dressing in a Browns uniform.

Toney, a former first round pick of the New York Giants, was quickly shipped out after just one season to the Kansas City Chiefs. Even with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a winning culture, Toney was unable to find any success, routinely known for making costly plays offensively.

In four years, Toney only managed to rack up 760 yards and three touchdowns between the Giants and Chiefs. He did add another touchdown on a manufactured rushing attempt.

For the Browns, however, they have a pretty firm trio of receivers who have produced since turning the keys over to quarterback Jameis Winston. If anything, Toney will be used as a return specialist on Sunday against the Saints.

Can the former first rounder make an impact in his first opportunity with the Browns?

Browns reveal their Week 11 uniform combination vs. Saints

The Browns will be wearing their all white combination in New Orleans.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to advance to 2-1 under the Jameis Winston era as they get set to take on the New Orleans Saints on the road.

This game is a homecoming of sorts for Winston, who spent the last four seasons in New Orleans before signing with the Browns this offseason. Can he enact revenge on his old team and rebound from a rough three-interception performance against the Los Angeles Chargers before the bye week?

As Winston and company look for their third win on the season, sitting at 2-7, they have revealed what uniform combination they will be wearing. The Browns will be wearing their road whites, but have decided to go with the all-white combination in New Orleans.

They will be wearing white pants and white socks, providing one of the cleanest looks in all of football. Look good, feel good, play good? Let’s hope as they take on the struggling Saints.

NFL assigns one of the most penalty-happy referees to Saints vs. Browns

The NFL has assigned one of the most penalty-happy refereeing crews to officiate Sunday’s matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Cleveland Browns:

The NFL has assigned Alex Kemp and his crew to officiate for the upcoming matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Cleveland Browns.

Kemp is one of the most penalty-happy referees in the NFL, behind only Ron Torbert, Clete Blakeman and Adrian Hill. Over nine games so far this season, Kemp has thrown 162 total flags, 25 of which were dismissed. That’s an average of 15.22 penalty flags thrown per game, for an average of 126.89 yards.

Among those, 60 of them were on the home team, with 77 of those coming against the away team.

The last time the Browns played a game under Kemp and company was on Dec. 28, 2023, when Cleveland recorded a 30-27 victory over the visiting New York Jets. In that game, Kemp’s crew threw 12 flags on the Jets for 74 yards.

Four flags were thrown on the Browns for 26 yards.

The Saints last saw Kemp when they shut out the New England Patriots on the road with a 34-0 victory in Gillette Stadium on Oct. 8, 2023.

12 penalties were thrown on the Saints for 86 yards, with five penalties thrown on the Patriots for 30 yards.

Overall, the Saints have had decent success under Kemp with a 4-2 record when he is the referee. The Browns haven’t exactly been lucky or unlucky with a 2-2 record under Kemp in the same position.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out this time around with New Orleans and Cleveland set to kick off at Noon CT/1 p.m. ET on Sunday from the Caesars Superdome.

Sean Payton will attempt to sweep NFC South on Sunday

Sean Payton’s Broncos have outscored NFC South opponents 87-31 this fall. They’ll attempt to sweep the division when they host the Falcons.

Sean Payton won seven NFC South division titles and reached three NFC championship games during his time with the New Orleans Saints.

Now coaching the Denver Broncos, Payton has faced some familiar faces this season because the NFL’s schedule rotation has AFC West teams playing NFC South teams in 2024.

So far, the Broncos are 3-0 against Payton’s old division with a 26-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a 33-10 win over the Saints and a 28-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. After winning the previous matchups by combined scores of 87-31, Denver will look to complete an NFC South sweep when the Atlanta Falcons visit this weekend.

Payton was asked during his media availability on Wednesday if he’s extra competitive when facing teams from his old division.

“I don’t think so,” Payton said. “It’s a fair question. There have been so many changes. Atlanta’s new offensively and defensively. Carolina is new. Tampa certainly with Todd [Bowles] but I don’t think — you might know some personnel. The New Orleans thing was different, but I don’t think with the other three. They’re just the next team, and you dive into the scheme, you dive into the players and who does what well. That would be my answer.”

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on Fox (view the TV map). Playing at home, the Broncos are considered slight favorites in Week 11.

Browns offensive coordinator keeps message simple to Jameis Winston vs. Saints

Ken Dorsey keeps his message to his quarterback simple as he takes on his former team

Quarterback Jameis Winston is looking to bounce-back from a three-interception performance. and Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey is keeping the message simple against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Heading into his third start of the regular season, Winston has had his typical ups and downs, throwing for over 550 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Cleveland offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey has taken over playcalling since Winston began starting, and he discussed how Winston can protect the ball better, via Camryn Justice: “We’ve got to trust our eyes, trust what we see out there….there’s no need to force anything.”

After a horrendous offensive start to the season, the passing game has shown life at times with Winston, as he recorded the two highest single-game passing yards for a Cleveland quarterback this season so far. Second-year receiver Cedric Tillman has had a breakout with Winston, and hopefully, the two can build off their momentum after the bye week.

Winston and the Browns are headed to New Orleans for Week 11, where Winston gets to play against one of his former teams, where he made 10 starts in three seasons. Both teams have had underwhelming seasons to this point and could use a win to help turn the tide in each of their locker rooms.

All 32 NFL teams (including the Saints) ranked by FPI ratings

Looking into where the Saints — and all of the rest of the NFL’s 32 teams — sit in ESPN’s FPI ratings going into Week 11:

The New Orleans Saints where able to catch a breath of much-needed fresh air following Sunday’s 20-17 upset victory over the Atlanta Falcons, who have been one of the NFL’s biggest rising teams in 2024.

It also marked the first game of the Darren Rizzi era after the team parted ways with Dennis Allen in a move that hardly surprised anyone.

Now, the Saints hold a -1.3 FPI rating, good for 21st in the NFL. They will host the Cleveland Browns at home this weekend, who head into the matchup with a -0.3 FPI rating, 18th in the NFL.

FPI is described as “a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season,” according to ESPN.com.

“FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.”
