New England Patriots at Washington Commanders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New England Patriots at Washington Commanders odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Commanders (0-2) welcome the New England Patriots (1-1) to Commanders Field for their preseason finale Sunday. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Commanders vs. Patriots odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Patriots are gearing up for their 1st post-Bill Belichick regular season, but before Week 1, they still have some roster battles to settle. The kicker competition between Chad Ryland and Joey Slye is heating up, with Ryland struggling. Offensively, they’re trying to improve after a rough season, but WR Javon Baker‘s drops and WR Kayshon Boutte being on the bubble raise concerns. Rookie QB Drake Maye is the focus, but Joe Milton III might edge out Bailey Zappe for QB3. With lots of shuffling on the O-line, will the Patriots finally hit 20 points in a preseason game on Sunday?

The Commanders are making moves as the regular season nears, trading WR Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles. This opens opportunities for receivers like Martavis Bryant and Kazmeir Allen. With rookie QB Jayden Daniels already named the Week 1 starter (he won’t play in this game), the focus shifts to the QB3 battle between Jeff Driskel and Sam Hartman. Last season’s offensive line struggles, allowing the 3rd-most sacks, remain a concern. Like the Patriots, Washington has been shuffling their O-line this preseason.

Patriots at Commanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Patriots 17, Commanders 13

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Patriots (-275) to win this game, but no way am I going to put down nearly 3 units to win 1 in return. I’ll keep my bet to the spread.

Against the spread

BET COMMANDERS +6.5 (-110)

It’s tough to picture the Patriots winning by more than 6 points on the road, especially with their injuries and struggling offense. They might pull out a win with better QB play, but it’ll probably come down to a field goal.

Washington’s secondary should have no problem containing New England’s receivers, and the Commanders could take advantage of the Patriots’ weak spots. This game will likely be close, with a win within 3 points. Washington should cover the spread.

The Patriots have not been strong against the spread, with a 6-13-1 record in their last 20 games.

Over/Under

The best strategy when betting preseason football games is to just take the Under. That goes double for the last preseason game because you are basically going to see the scrubs trying to make the roster. We will see 3rd and 4th stringers play the bulk of this game.

BET UNDER 34.5 (-110).

Dolphins vs. Patriots head-to-head

Miami leads the all-time series vs. New England 60-55, although the Patriots have taken 2 of 3 playoff meetings.

The Fins had a 4-game win streak snapped in Week 17 last year when the Pats picked up a 23-21 home victory. However, Miami covered as a 3-point underdog in that meeting and has taken 5 straight ATS in the series. The Under has paid out in 6 of the last 10 meetings.

New England hasn’t won in Miami since 2019 — when Tom Brady was still leading the way.

First look: Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots Week 1 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Eagles start what they hope is another Super Bowl run when they face the New England Patriots on Sunday in Week 1 NFL action. Kickoff from Gillette Stadium is at 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Eagles vs. Patriots odds from FanDuel Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s NFL picks and predictions.

Patriots QB Mac Jones will look to rebound in 2023 under offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien after a lost season under makeshift OCs Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. While Jones will have a litany of new receivers, including Juju Smith-Shuster, it will still be up to Jones and O’Brien as to how far this team can go.

New England is being picked to finish a distant 4th in the AFC East to start the season, which probably does not bode well against a Philadelphia team that is favored to win not just the NFC East, but the entirety of the NFC.

The Eagles players remained intact for the most part in the offseason, although some changes are in place in the coaching staff. Fans were not sad to see former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon leave to be the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and while the Eagles loved offensive coordinator Shane Steichen (who left to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts) they are extremely excited about Brian Johnson taking over the role after 2 seasons as the quarterbacks coach.

If QB Jalen Hurts can continue to move the ball with his feet — he put up 760 rushing yards and 13 rushing TDs in 2022 — this will again be the best team in the NFC and will be the conference representative in the Super Bowl.

Eagles vs. Patriots head-to-head

The Eagles and Patriots have only played once since Philadelphia beat New England 41-33 at Super Bowl LII, and that was when the Patriots picked up a 17-10 road victory as 4.5-point favorites in 2019.

This will be a barometer game for both the Patriots and the Eagles. Has Bill Belichick lost his magic touch? Was the last season of Hurts just a blip? Both questions will look to start getting answered on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
