LeBron James called Kyrie Irving’s Nets suspension excessive: ‘He’s not the person that’s being portrayed of him’

LeBron James is backing up Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is currently in the middle of serving a 5-game suspension from the Brooklyn Nets after he refused to take accountability for retweeting a link to a video with antisemitic material in it.

However, on top of that suspension, Irving is being required by Nets’ owner Joe Tsai to do a number of things before he can return to the team and play again. That includes the following outlined by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

After he fulfills all of those requirements, he can return to play. There are players around the league who think that is far too much for Irving, who has since apologized. Players are starting to push back against the requests.

LeBron James — maybe the most powerful voice in the NBA — just became one of them.

James called Irving’s requirements “excessive” and said he’s “not the person that’s being portrayed of him.”

“I told you guys that I don’t believe in sharing hateful information. And I’ll continue to be that way but Kyrie apoligized and he should be able to play. That’s what I think. It’s that simple. Help him learn – but he should be playing. What he’s asked to do to get back on the floor I think is excessive IMO. He’s not the person being portrayed of him. Anyways back to my rehab session.”

James isn’t alone here in thinking this. Jaylen Brown, specifically, said he expects the NBA Player’s Association to challenge the stipulations Irving is facing sometime soon.

It remains to be seen whether that will happen. We’ve yet to hear anything official from the Player’s Association except a blanket statement disavowing antisemitism that didn’t mention Irving’s name.

But one thing seems certain — this story isn’t ending here and it’s not ending anytime soon.

He shot an efficient 52% from the floor, snatching a dozen boards and dishing out a dozen assists to go along with 29 points on the night. Young talent Edmond Suner really showed out for the Nets, racking up 18 points, five boards, and a couple of steals while Seth Curry added a needed 23 points.

Coach Jacque Vaughn reacts to the team’s big win, “I think we really came out with the right mindset, that first group really got us our established wheel, we picked up full court, really tried to put an imprint on the game. Then guys just filtered in off the bench and had an impact.”

Here’s what players, fans, and analysts were saying after Wednesday’s dominant win:

Nets at Mavericks: Lineups, injury reports and broadcast info

The Brooklyn Nets look to face off against the Dallas Mavericks in their final away game of the stretch, come her to find out how to watch!

The Brooklyn Nets play the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

Brooklyn earned a comeback victory against the Charlotte Hornets in their second-of-three away game stretch. The team started the trip with a 42-point win over the Washington Wizards, before edging out the Hornets in Charlotte. The Nets seem to have some momentum on the hardwood, despite the off-court drama that has ensued from the team following Kyrie Irving’s support of an antisemitic film.

Losing the star guard will have an effect on the team, his offensive skillset will be greatly missed as he remains suspended. The guard cannot return immediately, however, as the franchise issued him mandates to complete before coming back to Brooklyn.

The Mavericks are 5-3 to start the year, logging some tough victories over strong Western Conference rosters.

The six things Kyrie Irving has to do to have a chance to return to the Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have issued six tasks to Kyrie Irving that he must complete before returning.

Following the Brooklyn Nets’ decision to indefinitely suspend Kyrie Irving, the team has reportedly given Irving a list of criteria he must meet before a return is considered.

Basketball insider Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the Nets have issued some mandates to the star guard. Earlier this week, general manager Sean Marks said that should Irving fulfill the steps laid out by the team, the organization would then “evaluate and see if this is the right opportunity to bring him back.”

This comes after Irving promoted an antisemitic film on Twitter, and was reluctant to apologize. Irving has since issued an apology on Instagram.

Nike suspended its relationship with Irving on Friday and called off the launch of his latest signature shoe.

On the court away from Irving, the Nets are on a winning streak, picking up two important wins on the road.

Nets at Hornets: Lineups, injury reports and broadcast info

Here’s all you need to know ahead of Saturday’s Nets vs. Hornets game.

The Brooklyn Nets will take on the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Nets delivered an impressive 42-point blowout win against the Washington Wizards on Friday thanks to superstar Kevin Durant and talented big Nic Claxton. The team’s defense really came through, punishing the Wizards second rotation and holding Washington to just 29 points in the second half. A big victory is great for the team’s morale as the Nets have had quite a bit of bad news over the last couple of weeks.

The Charlotte Hornets have the same record as the Nets, but the team has struggled to keep all of its players off the injury report. With LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier dealing with injuries, Charlotte’s lineup is severely lacking star power. The Hornets are underperforming compared to their preseason predictions, but the team will really take form when all of its players return to the court.

Kevin Durant made Daniel Gafford do a literal split with this crossover and the entire internet collectively lost it

Gafford might never get his ankles back after this one

Kevin Durant is the official owner of Daniel Gafford’s ankles. I’m not just saying that — these are the rules.

He completely snatched them from his body when the Wizards played the Nets on Friday night.

Durant caught Gafford on an island. The Wizards’ center isolated the Nets star at the top of the key and, from the very beginning, you knew it was a wrap for Gaff. But nobody could’ve known what was coming next. Nobody.

Durant crossed one time and had Gafford jumping. He crossed again, making Gafford jump back the other way.

Then he crossed one more time and, well, now Gafford can’t show his face on the internet anymore. My guy did a whole split before falling to the ground.

Seriously. Take a look, y’all.

This angle is worse.

It looks like Gafford is playing Twister, y’all. My goodness.

Oof. As For The Win’s resident Wizards fan, this one pains me to blog. But I must do what I must — it’s only right. A crossover this brilliant, yet this brutal, must be appreciated.

Of course, the internet roasted Gafford into oblivion.

Nets’ Seth Curry, Joe Harris set to return vs. Hornets on Saturday

Following a Brooklyn Nets victory, it was reported that both Seth Curry and Joe Harris are expected to play on Saturday.

The Brooklyn Nets have a little bit of good news following a big victory against the Wizards. Injured sharpshooters Seth Curry and Joe Harris will return Saturday against the Hornets.

New York Post writer Brian Lewis reported that both shooting guards will be active against the LaMelo Ball-led Hornets. Curry has been recovering from an ankle injury and briefly joined the Long Island Nets for practice and rehabilitation work. Harris will return for the Nets’ second road game in a stretch of three after the team put him on an injury management schedule.

Forward Ben Simmons will miss the matchup in Charlotte, but interim head coach Jacque Vaughn could not confirm that he would miss Monday’s game against Dallas. Simmons is on track to return after dealing with knee swelling earlier this week. The Nets announced Friday that Simmons underwent an MRI that was clean.

The Nets seem just around the corner from a fully recovered team, with the exception of forward T.J. Warren.

Kevin Durant and Nic Claxton carry Nets to 42-point statement win

The Brooklyn Nets dominated the Washington Wizards, and Kevin Durant delivered an iconic moment.

The Brooklyn Nets earned a blowout victory against the Washington Wizards, thanks to great performances from Kevin Durant and Nic Claxton.

Claxton had quite the game, making an efficient 90 percent of his shots from the field, only missing one field goal attempt. Nets’ offseason pickup Royce O’Neale put in some work as he cashed in three shots from behind the arc and dished out eight assists, and sophomore Cam Thomas scored 17 points off the bench.

The Washington Wizards’ secondary unit offered the team little chance to stick with the Nets, as the four players with the most minutes coming off the bench (Deni Avdija, Will Barton, Rui Hachimura, and Corey Kispert) shot a collective 13 percent from the floor as a group. Brooklyn’s defense was definitely a stress for Washington, with a total of seven blocks and eight steals.
