What fans and analysts are saying about the Nets’ demoralizing loss in Philadelphia.

The Brooklyn Nets were unable to beat a heavily depleted Philadelphia 76ers squad on Tuesday night, despite the Sixers missing Joel Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey.

Nets forward Ben Simmons heard boos from Philly fans throughout the entire game, but he did tally a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists.

Guard Kyrie Irving struggled from behind the three-point line, missing six of his eight attempts. As a team, the Nets shot just 9-of-28 from beyond the arc, compared to the Sixers’ 16-for-32.

TV personality Charles Barkley didn’t hold back when he called the team soft, and fans and analysts sounded off on social media.

Nets forward Ben Simmons talks about playing his ex-team, the 76ers

Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons discusses playing his ex-team, the 76ers, and his growing confidence ahead of the matchup.

The Brooklyn Nets look to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday evening, and ex-Sixer Ben Simmons discusses going to play his old team.

The matchup will be a bit anticlimactic, considering Sixers stars Joel Embiid, James Harden, and young guard Tyrese Maxey are out with injuries. However, the atmosphere at the Wells Fargo Center should be electric considering the way things ended between Simmons and Embiid.

Simmons spoke on his relationship with Embiid per Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire:

“You’re not cool with everybody,” Simmons explained. “You’re not texting everybody. I think there’s certain people that you just don’t talk to all the time. I got friends that I don’t talk to all the time, but we’re still–we’re cool. That’s just how life went.”

Roleplaying veteran Patty Mills reflected on playing the team on March 10 of the 2021-22 season when Simmons was out with an injury. Basketball insider Ramona Shelburne of ESPN spoke with Mills about it.

“It was a bum rush from the time we left the hotel. We had to go another out of the hotel, then people were following our bus.”

Ramona also talked with Simmons about his growing confidence ahead of the matchup:

“My mind is telling me, ‘Go be you, but then my body’s trying to catch up. So it feels like I’m just progressing each day, each game. Just building up,” Simmons told ESPN. “I’m still trying to get a rhythm, find my pace. It’s easy to be like … before the injury, [I] was one of the best defenders [in the league], and now, I’ve got to relearn a lot of things, rebuild. It takes time, but you move through it.”

Simmons did credit the Sixers fanbase for “making him a man”.

Stephen A. Smith believes 76ers matchup could be Simmons turning point

Stephen A. Smith praised Nets’ Ben Simmons’ recent improvements and believes the 76ers matchup could be a turning point.

Brooklyn’s Ben Simmons had the best night of the season on Sunday against the Grizzlies, and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes that a return to Philadelphia could be an important turning point for Simmons.

On a segment of ESPN’s First Take, Smith discussed Philly’s possible reaction to Simmons’s return, “It’s going to be very, very, very bad. As a guy that worked in Philadelphia, for 17 and a half years, I know this fan base better than most people on the planet. They are waiting for this man and they are going to heckle him. They are going to spew a level of vitriol, unlike anything he has seen in his career.”

Smith continued, “But I will say this I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen from Ben Simmons the last two games. If Ben Simmons shows up and has a decent game in Philadelphia. I think that’s going to be the real turning point. Once he gets through that. If he gets through that by playing reasonably well. I think that he is going to be on a path that’s much better for him and I’m going to tell you this, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are going to look out for him. I was there last year after Harden got traded, and they played in Philly for the first time. They blew them out of the building. KD and Kyrie are gonna be ready to help out Ben Simmons, but if Ben Simmons shows up, and does his thing. I think that’s gonna go a long way towards his progress moving forward.”

Nets star Kyrie Irving set to return vs. Grizzlies after eight game suspension

Nets’ Kyrie Irving is finally set to return, following an eight-game suspension the guard will look to play the Grizzlies on Sunday.

Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving has been serving an indefinite suspension after tweeting support for an antisemitic film back in October. Irving has so far missed eight games while he’s been working to get a better understanding of how hurtful his actions were.

NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic has reported that Irving is set to return on Sunday, in the Nets’ home game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The 7-time All-star was originally served with a suspension of no less than five games, with a list of stipulations that involved getting to know the Jewish community more. It appears that he has reached those requirements and he can now return to the team.

While the guard faced heavy criticism after the incident, it seemed that most of the league felt that he has served a fair punishment a few games ago. The NBPA stated that it would file a grievance on Irving’s behalf if he wasn’t allowed to return to the team soon. Former teammate LeBron James voiced similar thoughts, claiming that the Nets’ mandates were “excessive.”
