The Michigan State Basketball team (and fan base) is in need of as much good news as they can get, and they definitely had a good development on Saturday as Gabe Brown and associate head coach Dane Fife returned to the team for their home game against Nebraska.

Tom Izzo said on his pregame radio show that he is hoping to get about 10 minutes of play from Gabe Brown tonight.

The Spartans will need to start stringing together some wins if they want to get into the Tournament and they’ll need all the help they can get.

Notre Dame Offers Running Back Recruit Jordan Bryant-James

The first thing to know about the above headline is that no, this has nothing to do with the constant GOAT discussion in the NBA.

The first thing to know about the above headline is that no, this has nothing to do with the constant GOAT discussion in the NBA. It just so happens that Notre Dame running back target Jordan Bryant-James has all three names that come up in that. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native from Oakland High School actually has a future in football, and the Irish want him. Naturally, Lance Taylor is looking out for when Kyren Williams eventually moves on:

So far, 14 schools have expressed interest in and given offers to Bryant-James. Both Tennessee and Vanderbilt in his home state are among them. The other schools in the mix include Missouri, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Nebraska. When the Daily News Journal, your hometown newspaper, names you its all-area player of the year, you’re bound to attract some prominent schools. While we don’t know if he’ll take his talents to South Bend, at least he’s appreciative of that opportunity.

Oklahoma’s future schedules, opponents coming down the road

After the college football season completes it becomes a time to look forward. Who is on the Oklahoma Sooners future football schedules?

There are exciting times ahead for the Oklahoma Sooners football program. They are coming off their sixth-consecutive Big 12 Championship and looking to chase that elusive eighth National Championship. When it comes to the Big 12 Conference, the Sooners seem like the closest team to joining the fray. In fact, OU is the only team from the conference to play in the College Football Playoffs.

They haven’t had the success that many have hoped for. With the trajectory of the program since Lincoln Riley took over for the Hall of Fame head coach Bob Stoops, are they closer than we think?

The 2021 season should have high hopes, in fact, most media outlets have the Sooners as a top-three program in their early rankings for next season. Alex Grinch’s is continuing to improve, plus the return of Spencer Rattler and Kennedy Brooks to go with young receivers, they have the talent.

Provided Riley and company can avoid the early pitfalls of the last couple of seasons, they should be primed to make a run. That starts in 2021 with a very manageable nonconference schedule.

Defensive Back Recruit Cooper Barkate Gets Offer From Notre Dame

Much of the hype surrounding Cooper Barkate has surrounded his receiving skills.

Much of the hype surrounding Cooper Barkate has surrounded his receiving skills. After all, there are a few videos out there celebrating that aspect of his game. However, he is equally valued while playing in the secondary. Brian Polian and Marcus Freeman recognize this and want him at Notre Dame, where he could team up with Kyle Hamilton if Hamilton stays in South Bend through his senior season.

Barkate, who hails from Santa Ana, California, and plays at Mater Dei after spending his first two football seasons with St. Margaret’s Episcopal, has received plenty of offers already. Notre Dame is the 18th school to offer him an opportunity to suit up. Six of the eight Ivy League schools have reached out to him, so he obviously has the smarts to go to a prestigious college. The other offers he’s received are from Purdue, Nebraska, Kansas, Utah, Oregon, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Hawaii, UNLV, Arizona State and Illinois State.

Watch: Notre Dame Linebacker Commit Nolan Ziegler Makes Plays

Among the remaining participants in this Michigan high school football playoffs entering Saturday was Catholic Central.

Among the remaining participants in the Michigan high school football playoffs entering Saturday was Catholic Central. That team has Notre Dame linebacker commit Nolan Ziegler. During Saturday’s game against Davison, Ziegler showed why he’s heading to the next level:

Ziegler, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, committed to the Irish in August. He was recruited by Clark Lea and Jeff Quinn while also fielding offers from such schools as Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan, Virginia Tech and Boston College. He has another year of high school, and new Irish defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman will have had a year under his belt by the time Ziegler arrives in South Bend, so there will be some stability with the defensive scheme at that point. In the meantime, he can continue to develop into a more complete player.

Michigan State Basketball continues tumble in AP Poll, falls to No. 23

Michigan State, despite the win on Saturday, have still taken a hit in the AP Poll as they fell from No. 17 last week to No. 23 this week.

Michigan State, despite the win on Saturday, have still taken a hit in the AP Poll as they fell from No. 17 to No. 23. They did lose to Minnesota on Monday by a score of 81-56. They finally got their first win of Big Ten Play on Saturday against Nebraska, 84-77. Aaron Henry led the way with a career-high 27 points. The Spartans will be needing performances like that if they want to stay in contention for a fourth straight Big Ten Conference regular season championship.

Other Big Ten schools to make the Top 25 are No. 5 Iowa, No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 10 Michigan, No. 12 Illinois, No. 15 Rutgers, and No. 16 Minnesota. Ohio State, Northwestern and Indiana received votes, but did not make the Top 25.

Michigan State has two games this week and both are at the Breslin Center. First the Spartans host No. 15 Rutgers on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. EST. Then Purdue comes to town on Friday to play at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Can the Spartans even their Big Ten record with a pair of wins this week? It’ll be tough, but if the Spartans can get good performances from guys like Henry or Joey Hauser or Rocket Watts they will.

Illinois with tremendous social-media shot at Nebraska after routing Cornhuskers

Illinois drubbed Nebraska on the field and added to the insult via Twitter

Scott Frost wanted there to be a Nebraska football season and after the Cornhuskers fell to 1-4 with a 41-23 walloping by Illinois on Saturday, the Fighting Illini’s social-media team reminded him.

Classic Twitter trash-talk.

The Cornhuskers fell to 1-3 with the 18-point defeat. Illinois also reminded Nebraska its big wins over the school aren’t frequent.

This came after the indignity of one of the worst fake punts you will witness on fourth-and-8 somehow turning into an Illinois first down in the third quarter.

Watch: Illinois punter with the clumsiest fake punt that actually worked

Illinois punter Blake Hayes somehow worked magic on a clumsy faked punt

Illinois punter Blake Hayes seemed to be indecisive multiple times against Nebraska on Saturday.

He was going punt, then he was going to fake it, then he was going to punt, then he was going to try and turn fourth-and-8 into a first down, then he wasn’t … then …. you get the idea.

If Nebraska isn’t having a tough enough season, wait until the players and coaching staff have to watch this staggering fake punt in the third quarter while down 18 to the Illini.

Hayes gained 14 yards on the play, good for a first down as Illinois was routing Nebraska.

Storylines in the Texas-West Virginia game to observe

The Texas Longhorns and West Virginia game has plenty of intrigue. Both are looking to stay the course in their pursuit of the Big 12 title.

This Saturday the Texas Longhorns and West Virginia Mountaineers will meet at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns and Mountaineers are both coming off wins over ranked opponents in completely different fashions. Texas needed overtime to defeat Oklahoma State. Meanwhile WVU throttled the Kansas State Wildcats 37-10.

Both teams are looking to take firm control of their Big 12 Championship hopes. Sitting at 4-2 and 3-2 in conference play, neither team can afford another loss at this point. Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Kansas State all have one loss apiece. The Cowboys and Wildcats will play in Manhattan, so one of those teams will drop in the standings. This game will have huge ramifications. Point blank they need a win.

Let’s take a look at the biggest storylines for this matchup.
