Huskers unveil alternate uniforms for Memorial Stadium’s 100th anniversary

Alternate uniforms have become all the rage in college football over the years. Nebraska didn’t embrace the trend until the 2009 season.

Over the years, the Cornhuskers have worn some unique designs. The last alternate uniform Nebraska wore was last season when the Huskers honored the 1983 team.

The program will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nebraska football at Memorial Stadium with another alternate uniform. The Huskers will wear their standard red jerseys but will incorporate a blue border around the numbers.

The blue border will honor the first game Nebraska played at Memorial Stadium when Cornhuskers wore blue uniforms. The Huskers wore blue uniforms to allow the visiting Oklahoma Sooners to wear red.

There are other subtle changes to the uniforms, such as a patch to honor Memorial Stadium. The Huskers will wear the uniforms on October 21 when Nebraska will host Northwestern.

My wife ranks the Big Ten uniforms

Last Sunday, my wife ranked all the Big Ten mascots. That idea was very well received, so she asked if she could come back and rank the uniforms of all the teams in the conference. If your school has a red uniform, then I’ll say this, I’m sorry. She just didn’t like how many Big Ten schools wore either red or some variation of the color red on their uniform. Everything on this list is flipped and mixed around.

Over the last 50 years, the University of Nebraska Football team has, for the most part, had the same uniforms with only slight variations. It wasn’t until the 2009 season that Nebraska would even wear what we would call alternate uniforms, and over that period, they would stumble onto some unique designs.

Remember that time Nebraska wore a two-toned color helmet?
