Men’s basketball fall big on the road to No. 18 Wisconsin 83-55

The Huskers have now lost six in a row.

The Huskers hit the road on Sunday afternoon, visiting Madison, Wisconsin, for a conference clash with the No. 18 Badgers. Nebraska fell to Wisconsin, dropping their sixth straight game after starting the season 12-2.

The Huskers allowed the Badgers to shoot 30-of-63 from the floor and 17-of-37 from three-point range. This is Nebraska’s third game across their losing streak, where they allowed 17 or more baskets from beyond the arc.

The Huskers shot 10-of-30 from long distance and 21-of-62 from the field and couldn’t keep up with Wisconsin. Nebraska closed the gap to 24-21 after falling behind 19-2. But the Badgers responded with a 16-2 run and never looked back.

Brice Williams scored a team-high 11 points for the Huskers. Connor Essegian scored eight points against his former team. Juwan Gary led Nebraska in rebounds with nine.

Eric Musselman’s comments on road games ring strong after Nebraska win

Eric Musselman is succeeding in getting his team to compete in hostile Big Ten environments.

On Wednesday night, USC men’s basketball took down Nebraska on the road. With the victory, the Trojans and Eric Musselman improved to 12-7 on the season and 4-4 in Big Ten play.

USC is also 3-1 on the road in conference play—an impressive accomplishment given the significant travel that comes with playing in the conference. Last week, head coach Eric Musselman discussed the challenges of playing on the road in the Big Ten.

“It’s not tripping up our women’s team, right?” Musselman said. “They’re super talented, they’re well-coached, and they’re going out and kicking butt when they have to travel.

“Eventually, we’ve got to get to that point. Men’s game, you’re not going to win by 30 on the road all the time. But we have to figure out how to go on the road, like we are, and compete.”

USC will be back at home next week to take on crosstown rival UCLA and Michigan State. The Trojans will then hit the road again the following week to visit Northwestern and Purdue.

USC men’s basketball gets another big win, takes down Nebraska on the road

USC already has several road wins in Big Ten play. The Trojans are punching back in their new conference.

After falling short against a very good Wisconsin team on Saturday, USC men’s basketball is back in the win column in the Big Ten. On Wednesday night, the Trojans traveled to Nebraska and took down the Huskers, 78-73. The victory improved the Trojans to 12-7 on the season, 4-4 in conference play. Three of USC’s four conference losses have come against teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25.

It was another big night for Desmond Claude, who led the Trojans with 21 points. Wesley Yates III added 17 points of his own, while Reshaun Agee had 14 and eight rebounds. Nebraska native Saint Thomas, playing in his home state, had 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Following Wednesday’s victory, the Trojans have now won three of their past four games. Up next: the first Crosstown Showdown of the season against UCLA on Monday night, January 27, at Galen Center. USC is still not in good position to make the NCAA Tournament. However, if USC can deliver wins in Galen against UCLA and then several days later against Michigan State on February 1, the Trojans will definitely be in the middle of the bubble conversation.

Nebraska guard Connor Essegian reveals why he joined program

Connor Essegian revealed the reasons why he transferred to Nebraska.

Nebraska basketball guard Connor Essegian had high praise for coach Fred Hoiberg following the program’s upset victory over the Creighton Blue Jays on Friday night.

Essegian was a major part of the win. He scored 15 points on 66.7% shooting from the field. He was efficient in how he scored, as he played 22 minutes. The sophomore added a boost off the bench, as the Huskers were able to shut down the Blue Jays for the most part on Friday night.

Scoring the basketball is one of the reasons why Essegian came to Lincoln. He credited Hoiberg following the win, and gave him high praise in the process, as reported by NCN’s Jake Bartecki.

“He’s one of the best, if not the best, offensive coaches in the country.. That’s part of why I came here”

Hoiberg’s system is undoubtedly built on offense and playmaking. Nebraska basketball got a ton of it on Friday night. The win over Creighton could set the tone for the rest of the season. Essegian’s emergence over these last couple weeks is a positive sign for a program looking to build momentum.

Tommy Ahneman is a four-star prospect from Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, North Dakota.

The Nebraska men’s basketball team hosted a Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Monday. Tommy Ahneman is a four-star prospect from Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, North Dakota.

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound center averaged 20.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, and 1.9 assists per game, leading Sheyenne High to the Class AA state championship.

When the center was named player of the year, West Fargo High assistant coach Nate Altoff highly praised him.

“Tommy was a fierce opponent on the court this season—an elite scorer on offense and intimidating on defense. “He made an immediate impact every time he entered a game, often drawing double teams on offense and then guarding the other team’s best post player. He was a big part of his team’s state championship run and he’s a great example of where hard work, dedication and a great attitude will get you.”

Ahneman was also the NDHSAA Class AA State Tournament MVP, recording 28 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocks in the championship game.
