2023 Committed Quarterback visits Lincoln this weekend

Another weekend, another recruit visiting Lincoln!

A quarterback committed to Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class will be visiting Lincoln this weekend. Three-star recruit William Watson III committed to Nebraska in late February and was personally recruited by new Cornhusker offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. Watson announced via social media that he would be visiting Lincoln, Nebraska, this weekend.

Watson is a talented dual-threat quarterback. In 2021, Watson threw for 2026 yards and 22 touchdowns while running for 590 yards and seven touchdowns, leading Central High to a 10-2 mark and the Massachusetts Division 1 State title. The 6’0″ 175-pound recruit is a 3-star by all three primary recruiting services.

Nebraska target returning to Baton Rouge for a visit

Nebraska target WR is heading back to the Bayou for a visit.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers recently hosted and offered former LSU commit Omarion Miller.

Mickey Joseph could land a commitment from the North Caddo wide receiver but they are battling with his old team. Originally Miller committed to the LSU Tigers on Aug. 2, 2021, but then backed off his pledge. Currently, the Huskers are trending for Miller but that isn’t going to slow down the efforts of the Tigers.

Per Sam Spiegelman of On3Sports, Miller is heading back to the Bayou for another visit with Brian Kelly’s staff. The four-star wide receiver from Louisiana decommitted from LSU on May 30. Three days after his visit to Omaha on Jun. 3, he received an offer from Scott Frost and Mickey Joseph.

Not only is Nebraska the favorite according to On3, but Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports also put in a crystal ball prediction for the Huskers. The relationships that Joseph built in Louisiana during his stint with the Tigers could surely pay off.

The Cornhuskers have seen success lately with winning battles on the recruiting trail, perhaps this could be another one in the favor of Frost and Nebraska.

Son of former MLB pitcher commits to the Nebraska Cornhuskers

Big get for Scott Frost’s 2023 class.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and head coach Scott Frost received some good news on Monday. Riley Van Poppel of Argyle, Texas, committed to the Huskers.

He is ranked as an offensive lineman according to 247Sports composite rankings but listed as a defensive lineman. The four-star prospect is ranked as the No. 21 interior offensive lineman in the country. The commitment comes just three days after his visit to Lincoln.

Van Poppel is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Todd Van Poppel. His father played for six different teams which included two different stints with the Texas Rangers. The younger Van Poppel now becomes a member of the 2023 Nebraska Cornhuskers recruiting class.

Van Poppel is still listed to visit the Michigan Wolverines on June 23. In 2021, he recorded 14 TFLs and 7 sacks according to 247Sports. Van Poppel is the highest-rated member of the class for Nebraska. So far they have a total of eight commitments.

4-star offensive tackle out of Louisiana to visit Lincoln this weekend

Another busy weekend shaping up for the Huskers!!

A consensus class of 2023 4-star offensive tackle out of Louisiana will make an official visit to Lincoln this weekend. Zalance Heard plays for Neville High School out of Monroe, Louisiana will be spending time with the Nebraska Cornhusker coaching staff. The 6’6″ 300-pound lineman is listed as the #6 prospect to come out of Louisiana by 247sports, while on3.com has listed Heard as the #5 prospect out of Bayou State.

Regardless, it’s clear that the tackle is highly thought of, not just by the Cornhuskers. Heard has received offers from Michigan, Florida State, Baylor, and LSU. He’s currently being recruited by Husker offensive line coach Bryan Applewhite and wide receiver coach Mickey Joseph, and it’s no surprise to see Joseph involved considering the deep connections he still has to that area. Another interesting note is that a former member of Neville High School is already on the Nebraska roster in the form of freshman running back Ajay Allen. Heard initially played on the defensive line but switched to the offensive line his junior year.

Former Husker coach’s son to officially visit this weekend

The Cornhuskers will have a familiar name making an official visit this weekend.

A class of 2023 recruit will be visiting the Nebraska Football team this weekend even though his father no longer works on the sideline. Edge rusher Teitum Tuioti, son of former Husker defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, will officially visit Nebraska this weekend.

The 3-star pass rusher had played for Lincoln Southeast High School while his father worked for the Cornhuskers, but he now plays for Sheldon High out of Eugene, Oregon. His father, Tony Tuioti, coached at Nebraska for three seasons before accepting the same position at Oregon under first-year head coach Dan Lanning. Tony successfully recruited former Husker lineman Casey Rogers during the off-season after leaving for Oregon.

According to Rivals, Teitum Tuioti has received 11 total offers, but their Future Cast prediction shows a tie between the Ducks and the Cornhuskers. He’s currently listed as the third-best player in the 2023 recruiting class out of Oregon, according to both on3 and 247sports. This weekend will be Tuioti’s first official college visit.

Top in-state recruit for the Huskers makes top 100 list

One of Nebraska’s top recruits receives some good news.

One of the Husker’s top recruiting targets in the state of Nebraska has cracked the Top 100 list of his second national recruiting service. 2023 prospect Malachi Coleman has made the top 100 national recruits for on3.com, coming in at #96. The wide receiver had already made the top 100 of the recruiting service Rivals, where he ranked #54.

The 4-star prospect out of Lincoln East High School is currently the number one recruit in the entire state of Nebraska. Last year he had 17 catches for 531 yards and ten touchdowns. If he were to commit to Nebraska, Coleman would be another in a long list of in-state recruits that play for the Cornhuskers. Since the class of 2010, Nebraska has been able to grab every top in-state recruit’s commitments, except three. Those three years would be 2012 (Tavarius Bender – QB – Kansas State), 2016 (Noah Fant – TE – Iowa), and 2022 (Deshawn Woods – OG – Wyoming).

The receiver was part of the dozen or so recruits who visited Lincoln the weekend of June 3-5. Coleman plans to visit Michigan on June 24 and will announce his commitment sometime in December. The Huskers currently have seven commitments to the 2023 recruiting class, with four coming from in-state.

Nebraska among top schools for Texas edge rusher Brad Spence

Nebraska makes the top 10 for Texas edge rusher Brad Spence.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers appear to be a step closer to adding another member to their defense. One of their targets includes Klein Forest edge rusher Brad Spence.

Spence was offered a scholarship on Mar. 30, 2022. Greedy Spence announced his top 10 via Twitter. Among the schools include the Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas Longhorns, and the Wisconsin Badgers.

Overall, Spence is listed as the No. 65 edge rusher per 247Sports composite rankings. The edition could help the defense down the road for the Huskers. At this point in time, he hasn’t given a timetable to narrow the list down further or when he will commit.

Nebraska receives commitment from in-state recruit

Another name added to the 2023 recruiting class!!

On Monday afternoon, the Nebraska Cornhuskers added another in-state recruit to their 2023 class. Scottsbluff High School offensive lineman Brock Knutson announced his commitment on Twitter. Recruiting services have Knutson listed as a 3-star prospect and sixth-best recruit in all of Nebraska. He is also the fourth in-state recruit to Nebraska’s 2023 class. Knutson is also the third offensive to announce their commitment (Gunnar Gottula, Sam Sledge), all three being in-state commitments.

Nebraska offers Iowa Western defensive lineman

Nebraska’s looking to add some depth to the 2023 recruiting class

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered an Iowa Western CC recruit a chance to continue his playing career beyond the 2022 season. Defensive lineman Anterio Thompson has announced via social media that the Huskers have offered him a scholarship. Thompson was one of the many recruits who participated in a camp on Friday in Lincoln, and it was at that camp that Defensive Coordinator Erik Chinander made the offer. The 6’2″ 300lbs recruit made waves at Friday’s workout when he ran a 4.61 40-yard dash. With someone that big moving that fast, it’s no wonder the Cornhusker’s coaching staff practically made an offer on the spot.

This is Thompson’s second power five offer. The Kansas Jayhawks offered him a scholarship back in May. The Council Bluffs, Iowa native, is a member of the 2023 recruiting class and will play for Iowa Western this upcoming season.

3-Star wide receiver joins 2023 recruiting class

A second receiver joins the 2023 recruiting class

A 3-star wide receiver announced his commitment to the Cornhuskers on Friday afternoon. Jaidyn Doss of Raymore-Peculiar High School made the announcement on his official Twitter page. Doss will be the sixth commit to the 2023 recruiting class. He’ll also join Pierce, Nebraska native Benjamin Brahmer as the only two wideouts currently committed.

The 6″1′, 200-pound prospect has made 72 catches for 1418 yards and 19 total touchdowns in 24 games over the last two years. Doss was recruited by other Big Ten programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, and Illinois.
